I don't even know what a steinlager is, but even I want one now!
Thanks for the clothing tips everyone. Arte, I like the kindy-dress designation, I tend to do similar too. Except DH sometimes dresses E in the morning when I'm still in a daze and he doesn't have a clue so when I pick her up she's often wearing very strange combinations of unsuitable clothing. LOL
Cass, woohoo for your shoe score! Thanks for reminding me that I need to buy shoes, E is in a dire state of shoe shortage.
Cally, it's probably best you didn't tell me about K's clothes then. LOL. Is the cricket-widowhood season cranking up over there yet?
Arte, I'm glad pet day went off without a hitch. And YAY for your glasses! How was your girls' day out with A? I was *always* able to shop for H right under her nose, but can't do it with E, she's too observant.
I went back to Dr Morpheus today, and fired questions at him for a solid half hour or so. I think I was in a little too much shock last time to really get a grip on what he was saying. It sounds like I'm really in a bit of a clinical grey zone. My symptoms are mild, and it could still come down to a variation on the chemobrain theme, only no-one has studied that carefully enough yet for there to be clinical parameters for it. Also discussed seeing an ENT for my schnoz, and if I had $2.5K to splash around I could get a dental device to take care of the snore factor.
No cricket this year!! DH just wasn't feeling keen, his work is so full on, even if he had been interested, it wouldn't have been to after Christmas. Anyway, they couldn't get enought guys so there is no A grade for his team this year and he's not desperate enough to play for another team. So a summer off. We're going to try and do some more family excursions with the extra time (ie picnics, walks etc)
Re kindy clothes - if it's got a name ironed on it, it's suitable for kindy. Has saved a lot of arguments when she pulls out white leggings...... No name tag on them!
Arte - I'll have to put a pic up of her cousin in her dress. She's so tiny and the dress (even a 4) looks massive.
MD, a Steinlager is a beer
I guess that is sort of good news if it isn't narcolepsy in respect to driving? Will they give you that chemobrain wonder drug to try? I guess there isn't a whole lot of choice with chemo - if you need it then you need it - but they are some pretty mean drugs which must dish up a host of side effects.
E really enjoyed her day out, it was nice to spend some time with just her. And she talks pretty much constantly without W around.
Cally, yay for no cricket! That will be nice.
Some of the really petite kids just disappear under their uniforms, especially the tiny little girls. So cute though!
It was hot as anything this morning with a big thunderstorm this afternoon. It was like Brisbane weather. We were waiting for the volcano to erupt during the thunder and lightening to mark the beginning of doomsday lol
Last day of kindy for W's best friend tomorrow. I feel really sad for him, it is hard when friends move away (I am in the same boat with friends mother)
Arte, that's fantastic news you just have normal nobbly boobies . So what are the new glasses like? You'll have to post a pic on FB and show us. L's new ones have a black frame around the lenses and then the arms have black and red stripes on them - they make him look really grown up. He's never had a dark frame like that before and they really suit his big brown eyes. Did you get anything exciting on your shopping trip. I miss the days when I could take the kids christmas shopping with me and they would forget what I'd brought - even if they'd been playing with it in the trolley LOL. I hope W isn't too sad about his friend leaving. I imagine he'd be quite pragmatic about it though?
Cally, I had to LOL when you said he wasn't desperate enough to play for someone else. Cricket was such a big thing for him though so it must feel weird that he's not doing it this year. But the idea of doing more things like that is really nice. You're spoilt for choice down your way.
MD, do you feel like you have a better understanding of it all now? Being in a grey area would suck - it makes dr's tentative about what to suggest to help you but I hope your doctor is a bit more proactive and finds ways to help you. The clothes thing is tricky. I usually have a few *good* sets of clothes each season for when we go out somewhere, and then mostly just basic clothes (t's and shorts/skirts/dresses etc) for around the house. I can get away with them wearing things that are slightly too small and can get 2-3 seasons out of some things so I don't have to buy too much. But this year I've had to buy all of them a lot of clothes going into summer because they have all shot up/filled out. Is E partial to wearing dresses? target had some gorgeous little girls dresses for $12 I think in all sorts of colours and I buy them for P. They only go to a size 7 in this range, so I'm hoping that she doesn't grow too much over summer so she can wear them for one last year. They are really good in summer too when it's hot. With the kinder/preschool clothes - that's easy. our preschool has polo shirts so they have always worn that and then whatever bottoms to go with it. Maybe you could put her clothes out the night before so Dh doesn't have to worry about getting it wrong?
Cass, I loved the newborn period with the first 3 because the only 'obligation' we had was playgroup once a week so it didn't seem quite so chaotic, but with A, the poor kid was dragged from pillar to post and it was more chaotic that it had to be because of school and preschool etc. But it was all good.
Nothing terribly exciting happening here. P cut her leg open just above the knee on Sunday so that required a trip to town to get stitches. I had to call the closest hospital first (half hour away) to even find out if there was a doctor on call. Our local hospital is **** atm with doctors. One is the biggest ******* you'll ever lay eyes on and he refuses to work out of hours at the hospital, so if the others are rostered off then there is no doctor for the weekend. So luckily there was otherwise I'd have to drive 1hr away to the next hospital (the town where our GP is) which wouldn't have been a problem, but she was quite distressed about it so it was lucky that there was a dr on call. it was one of those ugly gashes that you wish you could un-see kwim? Worst thing is that her school was starting intensive swimming lessons for two weeks on Monday so she has had to miss the first week. And I have a toothache that is killing me with pain. It was the tooth I'd started having root therapy on and it flared up on Monday. So I saw the dentist on tuesday, he treated it, but as soon as the local wore off it was hurting like never before so I've been living on a diet of mush and painkillers since then. I have an appointment tonight though to get it sorted out properly. I would have the tooth pulled, except I've already had my wisdom tooth out and it was the next molar after that and being down the bottom you'd be able to see that I only had one molar on that side. So I really want to save the tooth.
trill- that gash sounds nasty. how is it looking now?
md- i have had to buy a heap of new clothes as L is wearing size 7 and 8 now. he goes through clothes so quickly, it's ridiculous. i have packed away all the size 7 jeans for J (although he is still only in 3s and 4s so it will take him a while). L has about 4 pairs of really nice shorts and about 6 really nice Ts. the rest are all a bit worn/small so they are good for kinder.
not much going on here. L has been doing transition and is absolutely loving his school which is great. the school constantly impresses me, they are very innovative and seem to really 'walk the walk' iykwim? they are very environmentally conscious and you basically just get online and pay for the booklist. it is then delivered straight to the school and the class pools and shares all the resources. what ever is left over at the end of the year they take with them into grade 1. it also has massive floor to ceiling windows/french doors that open up to an outside area and if the weather is nice they sit outside on beanbags and cushions. i want to go there myself! lol
Trill, bummer about the tooth. Ouchies! I hope they can save the tooth for you. That has to be one of the worst pains to suffer from
W is understanding of the situation with his friend, but he is sad as hell about it. He has been tantruming quite badly the last couple of weeks and this morning DH just mentioned the friend and he lost it. I managed to calm him down and we had a big hug but the poor kid is doing it rough atm. The friend is having an early birthday/leaving party tomorrow. I am going to cry like a baby, I can see it happening already lol Hopefully it will be better for him once his friend is actually gone rather than having it hanging over him itms. I printed out a photo of the two of them and framed it for him.
G, that school sounds great!
Looks like E is going to be a tantrumer too. Not surprised with the shining examples she has, but I didn't think she would start at only 14 months. She didn't want to leave kindy today and screamed for 20 minutes, so hard that she spewed The stupid part of me is still hoping it was a once off thing lol.
LOL, E was the easy one and she is great, but she is smart like W and that doesn't seem to make for smooth sailing.
Things with DH are alright atm. The last few days have been fine. I think at least some of the problem is work stress, because his big project got approved and now he is happy again. But one day at a time, hopefully we can plow though the rough bits and keep everything together.
Arte, I hope it all stays good for a while I think you have a point about his friend - maybe he will be better once he's left and W can reconcile that with himself a bit better. I hated having to drag a screaming child away from preschool. My own E was a shocker for that too. I think that it's likely to be just one of those things kwim and not a sign of things to come.
G the school really does sounds amazing! so happy to hear that he loves it. how have you been going with J? Any improvement? The cut isn't looking too bad - very bruised around it so she certainly did a number on herself. it just looks like an ugly scab with stitches poking out of it. Worse thing about it is that it's a high tension area, so every time she even slightly bends her leg she can feel it pull.
MD: argh! we dont want grey areas! we want super awesome answers with even more super awesome cures! gosh darn it. blah. But, there is a part of me that likes that you have them flummoxed...always nice to keep 'em guessing
Trill: sheesh, that wound sounds Nasty. How did she do it?? that sucks as well that you guys just dont have access to a decent number of Drs at the local. I can see why a person wouldnt want to work hours they are not paid for, but far out, when you are a country Dr. that kinda comes with the territory IYKWIM.
i am a bit worried about how next year will pan out re the kids. i will have Miss M up at the daycare on the hill and Miss L at the school at the bottom of the hill. I guess i will take Miss L first and then trudge Miss M (and Miss E) up the hill afterwards. i guess i will be getting fit hahaha.
Sorry to hear about that nasty tooth of yours too. i agree with MD that tooth pain is one of the crappest pains to have. it just radiates. when can you get it fixed? is it fixable?
G: yay for Mr L loving his school! half the battle i reckon. we have a boy in our group that is just terrified the poor wee thing . hopefully he will be in Miss Ls class as they are BFFs and she is so happy and confident to go that she will take him by the hand and show him around.
Cally: omg, Miss K looks soooo cute in her uniform!! I kinda miss that Miss L wont have a uniform as i associate it with so much of the anticipation when i was a kid getting ready for my first day.
Arte: sucks when work stress becomes home stress. we have that at times too. thank goodness for good couples counselling is all i can say on our front
argh, cannot believe that the time has come for your friends to move back sucks BIG time. saying goodbye will the hardest part. i remember getting teary when we had to say goodbye for our Big Trip Away.
AFM: all good here. sleep deprivation and all have my mum and grandfather visiting. It is a bit stressful but i am trying to be a duck and let it all roll over me lol. but far out, there are another 10 days of it wish me luck lol.
Far out Cass! Normally I'd advise you to take up drinking very stiff drinks but that's just not possible atm Are they staying there at your house? I hope the next 10 days go really fast for you P was running along the timber verandah at the side of the house and it drops off to a small step and then a concrete path. On the other side of the path was E's bike and when she tripped and fell off the end of the verandah, she caught her leg on part of E's bike. I'm thinking it was the bolt that sticks out about 3/4inch where the back wheel is bolted on. that's the only place I can see that would have caused an injury like she had. It was just an unlucky accident that it ended up being so bad.
Cally, is that the cousin you were talking about? My goodness she is a tiny titch isn't she? But the pair of them are just soooo cute!
The Dr thing really ****s me. But it's just one doctor who is a total ass. He's english and is every bit of the arrogant upper class toff LOL. the other doctors are all over worked too but they will still do their rostered weekend. What really really annoys me though is that half the town think that the sun shines out of his ass and they are quite happy to wait 6 weeks to see him! that's how long it takes to get an appointment with him because he's only 'available' half the time. they are putting their health at risk and they are too ignorant to change doctors because they think he's the best. I'm about to head into town to the dentist and hopefully he can do something. I have a feeling it might be an abcess on the tooth because all under my jaw is really tender as well. And that's the other thing - the dentist is only in town on tuesdays and fridays LOL so I'm really hoping that it's sorted today because I don't think I could put up with this until tuesday!
On the bright side the accountant rang today and said our tax is done and ready for signing, which means that I should get the FTB top up payment just in time for Christmas! So that's something to look forward to.

Trill, yay for tax money!!
I still have hope that E was just a having an off day. She usually has a whinge when we leave kindy, but today I carried her the whole way home kicking and screaming, then got her settled down with a yoghurt only for her to start up again 2 minutes later because I wouldn't give her the spoon.
Hope your tooth got sorted.
Oh, my new glasses are pretty nondescript. They are a bit darker than I would have liked but it seems bold colours are in fashion so it is hard to find anything that is subtle atm (esp in the limited range the mobile optometrist brings with him). Anyway, they have a flexible bit on the arms so if they are stretched apart the arms bend rather than the hinge breaking (again).
Trill. My m/o these days is just to buy the canesten already when I'm getting the script filled for the ABs LOL. I take the probiotics but they never stave it off completely, but where I think they make the most difference is how quickly my tum returns to normal afterwards. The abcess sounds awful, I've not had one of those but you have my full and undivided sympathies if it's anything like the death throes of a tooth in need of a root canal. Hopefully P's leg will heal up quickly and not too much of a scar - although my sister has got a beauty on her leg and how she got it is one of her favorite stories ... even though it gets slightly more dramatic each time I hear it LOL.
Arte, DH had some of those bendy glasses and it used to freak me out every time I saw him flexing them. They were great though, he had a v. bad habit of sitting on them, so they saved us a few $$. BTW I meant to say big phew over your boobies... but if you ever have any doubts make sure you go back and get them checked again. And I haven't seen much news lately but I did hear there was some volcano action and wondered how all of that was going. Speaking of eruptions, my DH is also a bad one for bringing his work stress home! He doens't even realise when he's doing it. (At least when I'm a crabby stressed out cow I'm aware of it. LOL).
Ginger, that school sounds totally awesome, and exactly the sort of school I always dreamed about especially for H who would do much better in an environment like that.
Cass, good like with the family visiting! I hope it goes smoothly so you can enjoy having them there rather than just rolling through it.
Trill, it's more a case of I've found perspective on it all than actually understanding it any better. And the Dr is totally on the same page with me, which is reassuring. I suspect the grey zone factor may persist (ie I may never really get an answer unless someone wants to put my head inside a functional MRI scanner) but the Doc is totally focussed on finding an effective treatment, regardless of nuances in the whys and wherefores.
E had her second and last school visit today, which went fantastically well again. But I realised how grindingly awful the double drop-off is going to be.
yes, the good old double drop off! It's not too bad where we live - preschool finishes at 3 and the kids finish at 3.15 so I have loads of time to get from point A to point B, but you have to be quick if you want to park within cooee of the school. And the highschool is next door to the primary school, so when L started middle school I parked halfway between them so it all worked out just fine. But next year with L having to catch the bus back to school at either 6am in West Wyalong which is 42kms away, or 7.20am at Beckom which is only 23kms away when DH is working on shift is going to be tricky. We worked it out that there will be 21 Mondays where this will happen LOL. But there is another family down the road from us who send their boys to a different boarding school but still go on the same bus and they have offered to take L which will be a huge help.
