Belated birthday wishes to all the littlies! Things have been very hectic..will get back to that in a little bit...but first!
X - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you had a fantastic day and that you've been having lots and lots of fun 'sharing' your toys with your sister!
S - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you and your sister and mum Jessey had a fantastic day!
E - Pretty sure I remember that you were going to be having a rockin' party in the park! Hope you had a GREAT day.
AND LAST....but certinaly not least
T - Happy BIRTHDAY! I hope you and your mummy and daddy had lots and lots of fun and that you got spoiled rotten!
OP - Sounds like you had lots of fun with X's birthday. WOW 70 adults I can imagine that they play place was freaking out. Good thing it all worked out in the and they all came in dribs and drabs. I bet your DH had a ball playing with all the kiddies!
AFU - We're all sick...and when I say sick...I mean sick. I've been missing in action as I was diagnosed with a sinus infection on Thursday. I was so congested and in so much pain I coudln't sleep Wed night, got into the doctor first thing Thursday and they put me on antibiotics. Then Sunday after party 2 it was like someone flicked the sick switch on DH. One minute he was fine, the next he was a mess. Splitting headache aches and pains in all his joints and vomiting..not just little ones...it was horrible. Got him into the doctor first thing Monday and they sent him straight to the ER with suspected meningalcoccal Then ran a whole heap of tests on him and thankfully it wasn't, but he had a spiked heart rate, really low blood pressure and severely dehydtrated. They let him out Tuesday morning, just in time for me to go back to the doctor....bronchitis this time...just in case the sinus infection wasn't enough Then to finish off the family trifecta Poor little B has a chest infection, AND (yes, because the chest infectionw wasn;t enough for the poor little mite) I rushed him off to the ER last night with the same symptoms DH had on Monday. They put him on a drip and has him attached to all sorts of monitoring equipment (That was just a little traumatic for me) and he got sent home this morning. HE's sound asleep at the moment.
So my past week has been all very hectic and stressful {big sigh}
Just needed to add..
BLESS MIMI! My mum has been an absolute godsend over the past week. I have no idea how I'd have managed with everything going on without her. She's been everywhere, done everything before I even knew I needed her there or for her to have 'done the thing'

: Forgot something
OMG Dr Tal, what an epic week you have had you poor things, lucky you did have your mum.
Sorry i have been missing, stupid BB does not send me notifications anymore, really pees me off they really need to sort their issues out with this.
Happy Birthday to all.
Well Evans party went well, it was freezing cold and I mean freezing cold, like it could snow and there was all this misty rain and I ummed and arrred about going to the park or just having everyone come back to our place but I really didnt want everyone at my house because there are crazy kids who would destroy everything and nosey pain in the bum family (my stepdad) who I know wouldnt go home and that would drive me nuts so we ended up having it in the park. It was freezing but the kids didnt care so it was all good. No one really whinged about it well at least not to me.
Sorry this is short Evan has just woken up so I have to run.
Hi ladies. Happy birthday belatedly to Evan, Brock, Alexander, Ayva, and all the other bubs/tots from me too! Our 2 parties went quite well, though it was raining for the second party so we had to move it back to our place instead of having it at the park. We got T a tricycle which he totally loves! Apart from that we only got him a couple of small things, but he got lots of presents from our family and friends and has really enjoyed having new things to play with.
Dr Tal - So I was feeding T at 4am this morning and I must have got on some random tangent of thought, because I suddenly wondered, did you ever think about running your own family day care so you could make money but not have to leave B? In the light of day and after reading your post about you guys being sick again, poor things, I'm thinking of the big problem with this idea that you might get sick too often. At least I think you mentioned having a weak immune system and hoping B hasn't got it too, sorry if that's totally wrong!
AFU - Well T is still a crawler! I was quietly confident that he'd be walking before he turned one because all my mum's kids were and also because he was so desperate to crawl! But seems crawling is still enough for him at this stage! Some times he'll stay standing if I let his hands go after I've been holding him up but mostly he doesn't even want me to stand him up! And some times he likes to go walking while holding onto my fingers, he can even do it with one hand if he wants to, but other times he just isn't at all interested. Oh well! He'll get there I should think.
Sorry about the lack of personals for everyone else, but hi to OP, m2a and Sal! Glad to hear your parties all went well! Hope I didn't miss anyone, hi if I did!
EJ - You're right, I do get sick WAY too often. I have bad lungs. I got bronchitis and pneumonia heaps when I was younger and it's really scarred my lungs...add to that the bact that I catch anything if you look at me the wrong way, and it's not a good combination. Especially when I have B coming home from daycare and bringing bugs with him I'd love to run a home day care, but given how sick I get all the time, I probably wouldn't be able to......
I wouldn't worry too much about T not walking yet. I have a close friend who's daughter was 18 months before she started walking. And I was talking to B's day care group leader the other day about it, because there are really only two of them in the room walking at the moment, B and a little girl about his age. None of the other kids are yet. She said B and L (the little girl) are both really early walkers and most kids don't usually start until about 14-15 months.
Glad o hear that T's party went well, he must have really enjoyed it. A trycycle huh?? That would be really cute to see him on.
Sal - Glad to hear that E's party went well too apart from being a bit cold. hope you all thaw out down there some.
Do any of the other tots have their molars yet? It seems totally weird to us, but 3 of 4 of Travis' molars have broken through the gum. I wouldn't have realized if I hadn't been checking to see if he had put something in his mouth and felt something sharp! But he still only has six of his front teeth! Including the front four, plus the top and bottom on the right. No canines at all! I'm hoping that explains some of the crappier nights we've had recently.
Gotta go... every time T sees me on the lap top he wants to watch sesame street on youtube...
Emma – Brock definitely doesn’t. He’s only got 4 teeth still (although I think he has two more top teeth coming in at the moment).
I seem to recall reading somewhere though that they get their front 8 teeth first (so four middle on both top and bottom) then at least 4 molars…could be 8, but I think it was 4, then their canines.
I wouldn’t quote me on that though.
I hope he has some better nights for you now that they are through!
So quiet in here recently! Let's get some chatter going again!!
How are we all? How are our gorgeous one year olds? Mine is getting older and cheekier by the minute...
Dr T: how are B's teeth? X still only has 4. Its so bizarre. Got one, then three weeks later got another three. That was Easter. Nothing since then! Strange.
How are you guys going? I read in one of the other threads (stalker much? ) that you've all been pretty crook... I'm so sorry. Also read about your nasty AF... you poor thing, I wish there was something I could do to help. Plenty of these coming your way
Emma: one of my friends had a similar thing happen with her June bub - he's got a molar! She wouldn't have noticed either except she was tickling him and he laughed and showed her. She couldn't believe it! So I guess like everything with babies - there is the "normal" path, but variations from said path are also "normal"!
How are your nights going now?
Sal: Nice updates on FB through your business about reminiscing over being in labour and stuff! Are you getting clucky miss???
Hi to everyone else!!!!!
AFU: As I said above, little X man is getting cheekier and cheekier as the days progress. He chases his sister now and grabs on to her, they both fall about laughing but usually one of them gets hurt and it turns to tears He needs to be a bit older to understand how to playfight without hurting her...
We finally had his 12mth check - I'm so slack - and he's dropped right down in weight. My 4.84kg/10lb 11oz baby, born on the 100th percentile for weight, has dropped right down under the 50th. Nursey wasn't too concerned though - she could see he is clearly happy, healthy and eating well - loves his food and still has plenty of BFs during the day (and night!). So I'm glad she wasn't concerned. He's still at 95th percentile for height though! I've got a string bean on my hands!
We haven't gotten around to the 12mth immunisations yet either - I'm so slack!!!! Has anyone else had these yet? From DD I remember they weren't too great... I had a friend in the waiting room and she said she could hear DD screaming out in the waiting room...
Hey OP, it has been quiet I dont come on BB too much anymore, and as you know I dont get notifications of replies, is it just me or is this happening to everyone.
In regards to the posts on my business page lol no funny enough I am not clucky, I thought I would be, we have decided at the moment that two is enough for us, we are incredibly blessed, we lost two babies before Georgia and Evan, one was particulary bad, at 17 weeks I had the baby in a public toilet, and was rushed to the northern hospital in epping as we were on our way to melbourne with friends at the time, its a very long and emotional story that haunts me still and I am not greedy as I know we are so lucky to have our two babies. I have this little voice inside my head that tells me something will go wrong if we have a third. We may try in the future maybe, who knows. The posts on my business page are more about trying to get my customers and likers to see I am real mum and person just like themselves, trying to gain trust etc.
Are you clucky, haaahhha I am sure I know the answer to that one lol , actually I was wondering if you are still involved with the breastfeeding assoc as I have a fundraiser in mind I wouldnt mind talking to you about.
Hi to everyone else, Evan is a beautiful, happy little man, he hasnt had his 12 month needles yet but I will be getting them soon, when DH goes on holidays I think, makes it a bit easier.
It has been VERY quiet hasn’t it?
OP – B still has just four teeth, but I can see his top two, I think they’ll probably break through within a week. It’s nice to know that B’s not the only oddball in the tooth department though. He had just the one for about 6 weeks, then he had three come in all within a week and now nothing for AGES.
Thanks for stalking We’re still all sick to varying degrees. It’s been a horrible 2 months. The rundown. ME: I’m severely anemic, something to do with AF hanging around for over 3 weeks now, and not just a normal AF, I’ve got the bleed like a stuck pig AF from #ell. I also have bronchitis and a sinus infection that seems to be immune to pretty much every antibiotic I am able to take while I am still breast feeding. DH: They finally figured out what he has. Over the course of the past 8 or so weeks the doctors have diagnosed whim with suspected menigicoccal, whooping couch, influenza and pneumonia. He was officially diagnosed last week with Ross River Fever and pneumonia. He mostly has the pneumonia under control now, but the Ross River is really running him down. BROCK: He’s had gastro quite a bit, and a running nose since a week or so after mum got here. Last Sunday, I had him at a friends place and he started to vomit, then when he looked up at me he had blood gushing from his eye Okay, it probably wasn’t gushing but it certainly felt like it, any blood coming from your babies eye is too much and feels like a gyser! Off to the emergency room we went. 4 hours later he was diagnosed with a ruptured sinus. Which by all accounts is quite painful, so he then became the star attraction of the hospital, Come see the baby with a ruptured sinus that isn’t screaming in pain, the one that’s happy as a bug laughing and playing with everyone! The sinus had also become infected…hence the eye mishap. Something about the sinus not being able to drain down, so was draining out his tear duct (hence the blood, and subsequent mook….mook being the technical term). Got some eye drops and got sent home. At the time, traumatized as I was by the blood gyser spouting from my babies eye, I didn’t give much thought to JUST eye drops being given to me. Gave the eye drops as prescribed…so you know how hard it is to get a drop into a squirming wriggling screaming babies eye? Monday morning is eye was welded shut by mook. Took me 20 minutes in the shower to free it so he could open it up. Didn’t clear up at all, welded shut again Tuesday morning, so I made a doctors appointment for him. Took him in and the doctor was mortified that they had just given him eye drops. Prescribed him some antibiotics, and some different drops. His eye was cleared up by later that day. Continued on with them until Saturday morning. By Saturday night his eye was all gummed up again and Sunday afternoon it was bleeding again. Back to an after hours clinic (wasn’t going to take him to the hospital unless it was absolutely necessary given the fiasco the last time). He was given more eye drops (three different types now, three times a day each all at different times) and an even stronger antibiotic. So far so good. Today is my first day back to work in about 2 weeks and B’s first day back at daycare.
I took B to get his needles about 2 ½ weeks ago, just before the whole ruptured sinus/eye infection thing. It was pretty horrible. He has three and after the first one he knew what was coming and it was really hard to hold him and he just wailed. I felt like a real ogre.
Sounds like X is a real string bean now! Glad that they weren’t concerned with his weight.
Sal – I knew you had a couple miscarriages, but I didn’t realise one of them was so late. I can understand how you could be concerned to go for a third.
I get emails sometimes about replies, but it can really be very hit or miss. There’s not really any rhyme or reason to it. I got notified that you had posted, but not that OP had, so I came on expecting to see only one new reply but there were two!
Hi girls. Still sleep deprived here. I'm so tired I can't get to sleep. I don't even know if I've fallen asleep the last couple of nights, if I have it's been for no more than an hour at a time, a couple of times a night. I am going insane. I know a lot of parents get dealt with kids like this so maybe I'm just a weak person because I cannot cope anymore. I'm sick of being so tired I can't think but if I work from home and try to sleep when I get so tired that I can't think, I can't sleep. I can't get to sleep for hours when I go to bed early at night. I can't get to sleep for ages when I go to bed late. Or when T wakes us up overnight. I'm sick of getting sick because I'm so run down. I'm sick of having a house that is eternally untidy and dirty (can't help with the sickness either). I'm sick of not having the energy to think of dinner in time. I'm sick of fighting with DH because we're both so tired and don't know what to do.
Sorry for the vent. I know I'm not the only one here with crap to deal with!
OP - I used to worry about T's place in the percentiles but now I've just accepted he's skinny like me & DH! SOunds like X is finding his fit, and it sounds like it's tall and slim!
How's X's sleep going at the moment?
I finally took T to get immunised last Thursday. I didn't want to do it while any of us were not well, but he might be 5 by the time that happens at the rate we're getting sick lately! But he seemed reasonably healthy at the time. My dad came with us and held T while the nurse administered the shots. T managed to thrash his limbs about while the needle was going in which was seriously scary. He even knocked the needle out of the nurse's hand.
Dr Tal - I really feel for you guys! Hugs!!!! Poor little B, your poor DH, poor you!
Sal, glad to hear E is such a great little boy. And I love that you are so grateful for your two healthy and happy kids. It makes me feel slackk that I can't focus on the good things in my life more, rather than get so stressed about being constantly tired!
You ARE NOT a weak person! I can’t imagine how hard it would be to function on as little sleep as what you get with T. B wakes up only about 3 times a night (and generally falls asleep straight away if I keep him in bed with us, which I do now from about 1 because I am ‘too tired’ and can’t be bothered trying to put him back in his cot ) and even at that I get SO tired sometimes. And from what you’ve said T wakes HEAPS more then that.
Unfortunately I don’t have any advice for you at all…sorry. But I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that we don’t mind you having a vent.
T sounds like he was similar to B with the needles. I am not at all looking forward to his 18 month ones after the hassle we had with his year needles. I reckon we’ll need 10 people to hold him down for his next round
lol Dr T, if only we could physically fit 10 people around them that could be a seriously good option!
But thanks for the reassurance... It wouldn't be so bad if he would go back to sleep easily, which we can before 1am but after about 1am he's often awake for an hour or two.
Nooooooooooooo I am not getting notifications. What is going on??? I just saw a post somewhere else from Dr T (stalker much? ) and thought "Better check here..."
Dr T: massive massive hugs about your illnesses!!! I would have been terrified with the blood thing, poor B - how amazing that he was such a happy tot through it all. You've got a great little boy there!
How's the bleeding going? Yours, that is? Hope it has settled down now hun.
Emma: You are NOT weak. You're not. There's a reason sleep deprivation is an actual torture technique. You do whatever you have to do to get through - we all do.
Have you thought about seeing someone about T's sleep? It sounds like it has really reached a bit of a crisis point.
I remember it took DD about 12mths before she started sleeping through. She'd wake 2-3hrly up until about 12mths. When X started doing the same thing, I thought to myself "Just get to 6mths, then I can night wean and he'll get better" and he didn't. I remember thinking "DD improved at 12mths, I just need to get through the next 6mths..." but it seemed like forever. So we got some help. TBH - I think he would have eventually sorted himself out anyway but I wasn't coping, you know that.
How is he now? He's better - goes down easily at 7.00-7.30pm, but he goes easily cuz I feed to sleep. He has one sleep a day so by 7pm he's pretty knackered, I feed him to sleep and we all get some peace and quiet. He generally only wakes once - any time between 1am and 7am. So a good night for us is both kids asleep by 8pm, peace and quiet til 6am. If he wakes before 6.30am he comes in with us and I feed and then put him back in his cot, at which point he may or may not go back to sleep. The earlier he wakes, the more likely it is he'll go back to sleep. Standard wake up is sometime around 4-5am.
A bad night - X doesn't feed to sleep, carries on til 8 or some time... DD decides she doesn't want to sleep, that fight could go on til 9pm... then X stirs at 11pm, wakes at 1am, feeds til 2am, carries on til 3 or 4am, back to sleep, awake at 6am. Throw a couple of DD wake ups in the mix and it can all be pretty crummy really.
But we have more good nights than bad these days, which is so pleasant. Emma, hang in there, it won't always be like this You know I speak from experience... you just have to trust me.
Sal - I do love all the posts on your page. AFM being clucky, yeah you know the answer to that one
AFU: The 12mth jabs weren't so bad. DD was much worse. He sat, watched the nurse, his little eyes widened when the needle went in, by the end of it he was "waaa?" just a little, then when the second needle went in it escalated a bit, then the third needle and it was full-on crying - but not screaming like DD. When it was done I gave him a big cuddle and then popped him on the boob and he was fine. He was feeding in the cradle hold and had his eyes half shut but was still watching the nurse... like "I see you there, mean woman. One false move and I'm outta here..."
Tip to all for the 18mth jabs: chocolate. Even if you don't give your kidlet sugary chocolatey treats (I'm a bad mum ) maybe make an exception for the needles. By 18mths, DD knew what a freddo was (please don't think I load them up on junk... she didn't even have fruit juice til 2yo!) and I bought one in with me, told her she'd get a big ow in her arm but then she could have some special yummy chocolate.
She cried when she had the needle but got over it quick smart when I gave her a small piece of chocolate. It was easier than the 12mth ones actually! You could even give it to them right as they are getting the needle, give them something to distract them. Just a thought.
Not much else to report!
How are we all going with words?
X says Mama, Dada, Woof, Fish (though those two sound more like - "Ooffff" and "Fffsshh"), and I think he's now trying to say "Plane" - he looks up in the sky when he hears a plane and points and kind of says "Aane!" and the same for "Truck" - "Uck!"
Not much else really! Although he nods and shakes his head a lot... got him up this morning and said "Ok, we have to change your nappy, ok?" and he shook his head... hates nappy changes. Then we went out to the kitchen and I got out the weeties and said "Do you want some weetbix?" and he nodded. Coincidence? Probably
I'm struggling with nappy changes. By the end of the day it takes me and DH both: one to hold him down/try and entertain him while the other changes nappy. He just hates it!
SO glad to know I am not the only one with the nappy change dillema. at the end of the day sometimes it gets to the point where I just can't even bother TRYING to put one on, even if it means lots of piddles on the floor to clean up. It's also been made so much worse by the eye drops, as every time I lay him down now he starts to scream in anticipation of the eye drops
STill off an on with B and his eye. IT flared up again Wed morning, so back to the doctor and out of daycare/work for the rest of the week. HE's seeing an ear nose and throat specialist on Monday and there is talk of a tear duct problem and seeing an eye specialist as well. We'll find out about that after the specialist appointment on Monday.
Brock talks heaps...most of it is just jibberish...or perhaps I should say I just don't understand him, but he does have a heap of words. Bye-bye, Tano, Niya (all dogs except tano are niya), mum, dad, hello, bang (as in bang on things, not bang like a gun), duck, up, listen (I say it to the dogs a lot when they ignore more, he says 'sen' but I know what he means cause he always uses it when he's calling the dogs), here (Again I clearly use it with the dogs much more then I thought I did). Where are you, but he says it as whaerya. Possibly a few others.
ME? Still bleeding SO over it. Saw the fertility specialist on Monday. HE thinks it might be fibroids again. I had them before, he removed them in an op I had to get rid of a cyst. Found several cysts, some endometrial scarring form endometriosis and heaps of fibroids. Apparently they were big enough that even if I did ovulate and one of DH's swimmers managed to swim straight enough to fertilise the egg it still would never have implanted because the fibroids wer so big and so many they would have made it impossible. Anyway, apparently when you ahve fibroids you also usually have really heavy and really elongated periods. He said it's unusal for them to grow back so quickly, but given my history it wouldn't be out of the question...SO he wants me to have a D and C to 'clean things out' then we'll go from there. AT this stage it will most likely be in 4 Friday's time. That having been said, given that I'll most likely continue to bleed until then if he has any openings/cancellations he'll call me up straight away and slot me in, so really it could be any time.
Oh gosh Dr T, that sounds horrible - I really hope he has a cancellation soon and you can sort it out! How awful for you Is it tiring you out? Are your iron store depleting? I'd be worried about that... Hopefully the D&C will clear it all up and you can get back into the TTC saddle
Poor B! Can't believe he is still having issues with his eye, poor little mite. And now the impact on nappy changes, gah! We had a similar situation with DD - when she was about 10mths she got a really nasty staph infection in her skin, so we had to give her oral ABs - something nasty called flucloxicilin I think. Horrible, awful tasing fluid. Really nasty. My pharmacist friend didn't know why they prescribed that to us as apparently kids just won't take it. We had to hold her down and literally force it in her mouth, it was awful. And as a result, any time we now try and give her any sort of medicine its a real battle - for about a year she had that association of bad medicine and would just refuse to take it. Even now, we have to tell her its nice medicine (like Panadol) and let her have a taste before she believes us and will have it. Its horrible and a little heartbreaking that her trust in us was a bit shattered by that...
X has started communicating without words now -I've decided the nodding and shaking head is intentional. I ask him "What do you want for breakfast?" And then get out the bread and cereal and say "Toast or cereal?" he will point, then I say "Cereal?" and he nods. Today he pointed at a dog and said "Woof!" and I said "Did you see a puppy dog?" and he nodded and said "Woof woof! Uppy!" Or something that sounded like puppy I'm sure I thought he was just nodding and shaking randomly with no meaning but I now reckon it is with meaning!
Not much else to report here. Enjoying some peace and quiet before a first birthday... fun fun!
There iron stores probably aren't coping super well, given that I am severely anaemic. But I am popping TONS of iron supplements, so not too much else I can to. Tiring? Yes. I have absolutely NO energy most of the time. But I'm getting there. I really hope the FS has a cancellation, but even if he doesn't at least I have an end point...something to work towards... Knowing when it will end kinda makes it easier to endure ITMS?
I have an ear nose and throat specialist appointment with Brock Tomorrow. I am hoping that he can give me some answers, although from the sounds of it, the whole thing is potentially a tear duct problem, in which case tomorrow I'll just get another referral to an eye specialist, but I suppose at least that's just another step to figuring out what's wrong with him. Gotta just keep on keeping on, not really much else I can do.
That's great that you can communicate with X now with nods. Makes it much easier to know what he wants. At this point in time B has taken to taking me by the finger, leading me to where he wants to go, then pointing at whatever it is he wants and saying ta. Which sounds pretty clear but sometimes it's hard to know what he's pointing at and he can get prety fruststrated sometimes. Ah well.
Dr T - how are you? Have things settled down? How did B's appointment go? How did yours - have you made it in to see the FS, did they have a cancellation?
What else is happening? We are very quiet in here...
AFU: have started think about a big bed for X. He is still so little - we had DD in a big bed by around 13mths, so a month ago! But X, he's too little just yet. But if I can get a bargain... I'm just worried as he is so clumsy, no doubt he would fall out much more than our DD ever did. A bit scary... my baby is growing up!
