Hasn't this year gone sooo fast!!! Ayva has been walking for a bit over a month now, shes so cheeky Her and Aiden are really starting to play (and fight!) together now! haha .. Still not heard from their dad .. But hey, his loss.. Aparently the young girl he was with is having another baby and its his this time (didn't end up being his the first time haha) .. Hi M2A! Nice to hear from you. I was wondering how you've been doing. Did you go back to school? This year sure has gone fast!

And hello everyone else, I don't think I've been on for a while myself. I've been feeling a bit miserable. DH and I have *****ing at each other sessions on a regular basis that are quite stressful. But at least he helps with dinner and bath time which is more than my friend's husband does. I've been speaking to a counsellor I was referred to by child health, and she tells me I have low self esteem and am borderline depressed. She asked me to list ten good things about myself but I could barely think of one. I keep feeling like I'm depriving T of stuff like the right food, enough mentally stimulating activities, an emotionally stable and imaginative mother! It could just be the lack of sleep. The cry it out thing only seems to help sporadically with T not waking up all night. And I just go so crazy during the day when I can't think of something to do and wish I had more people close by I could visit, and even better, leave T with for a couple of hours.

Sorry about the blah blah blah, just really wanted to tell someone how crap I'm feeling lately.

Dr Tal - Sounds like the MIL is your biggest source of stress right now! Does your DH understand that?

Sal - go the walking E! Are you having a lot of people to his birthday afternoon tea? A friend of mine invited a whole lot of people to hers and it struck me as way too much effort. Then again, I get totally anxious about entertaining people! So I'm going to invite family then just that friend to T's lunch time bbq in the park.

OP - go the walking X too! T still hasn't even let go to stand alone. I like to think he has a very keen sense of self preservation. But then he did a back flip off the couch and landed on his head last night so maybe not.

Emma - I wish the MIL was the most stressful thing going on right now. DH had a bit of a meltdown earlier in the week. I think the whole mother thing has just finally gotten to him. He keeps trying to pretend that she's not a horrible mother, and make excuses and whatnot, and I think it's all finally taken an emotional toll on him. I know he knows how much she lies and how horrible she is, he just can't see to make himself beleive it ITMS? I have him going to a psych, he's been twice in the past week (work has really good perks one of which is free counselling to employees and direct family).

I've been going too. To a psych that is. I've not said anything to most people, but part of my 'homework' is to stop 'sucking it up and dealing with it quietly' I have a bit of an issue with being percieved as weak and asking for help. I've been told that I have to stop pretending that I am fine all the time and talk to people about it. Apparntly I am suffering PTSD (yes as in post traumatic stress disorder) from my pregnancy...according to my shrink apparently my pregnancy was really horrible and she can't fathom how I never complained about it to anyone. And as a result of that I am suffering from body dismorphia which is boarderline anorexic (go me! ) hence the having lost nearly 40kg since B was born. So I need to start telling people that I actually hated being pregnant, and talking to friends and family about some of the reasons why it was so horrible for me. A lot tougher for me then it sounds.

sorry....that really turned into a bit of a me whinge didn't it. so sorry that you are having a rough time as well. Have you thought about joining a play group near by? I know I always worry that I don't mentally stimulate B enough. I have a play group plus a kids in harmony thing that we go to on Fridays. He loves the kids in harmony, it's a singing and dancing group that teaches children body awareness through song. He has a blast.

If it counts for anything from what I know of you, you sound like a really fabulous smart person

M2A - So great to hear from you. What are you studying? That really would keep you busy with the two little ones. It is so hard to beleive that they are nearly 1 and Aiden is nearly 3 seems like only a few weeks ago you were having his 2nd birthday with all his Thomas stuff! Time really does fly.

AFU - I think I covered most of it in my poor me above!

On the bonus side B doesn't seem to have any of the same hang-ups and issues as his parents. He's such a happy baby...which is good. We just spent all afternoon at a friends place and they reckon he's the most laid back happy baby they've ever seen...not sure which side of the family he got that one from!

Sounds like we all need some of these

Dr T - I had no idea. We were in belly buddies..., we all were! I had no idea. Now I have to say, reading your post, you said a fair bit of "the therapist thinks"... Do you agree with her?? Just asking.

Em - so sorry T still isn't sleeping hun. X isn't either... Much sometimes yes, sometimes no. I feel your pain. Can you ask for a referral to sleep school?? Things are so much bleaker when you are sleep deprived. Have you looked into Playgroups in your area? What about story time at the library? Mini maestros, mainly music, gymbaroo? Swimming? Just trying to think of some of the things we do...

M2A - nice to hear from you

AFU: X went on strike from the boobies, some of you might have seen my thread about it... But he's back on now. I think it was a bit to do with me going back to work... But we're back on track now.

Work's going ok. Bit bored really. Need a change.

Our babies are 1 soon ladies!!!!!!!!

OP - I had read a bit about X and his breast refusal. So glad that he's started drinking again. I could tell from your posts how upset you were.
A change huh? thinking about changing jobs? What is it you do anyway? I don't think I've ever seen you say anywhere.

Yes, the more and more I think about it, the more I do have to agree with her. I've been worried for quite some time actually about my fixation with being 'fat' when I weigh less then I have in 10 years. And if I wasn't so concerned with making sure I have enough milk for B and making sure I eat enough to give him all the vitamins and minerals he needs I probably would be anorexic. Every time I eat something all I can think about is how many calories it has in it and if I eat it how many calories I'll have eaten in the day and how many I can have before it's 'too many' not that I actually know how many would be too many

The pregnancy...again I knew it was bad, and I know most people didn't have anywhere near as much of a hard time as I did, but I just got on with it. Didn't want people to think I was complaining about being pregnant and having a baby I wanted to much. I guess I just tried to pretend the bad bits (pretty much all of it) weren't happening. But the more and more I spoke to hear about things I'd not told anyone, not even DH, the worse and worse it sounded/was. I also never bonded with Brock until he was born, so there was a lot of fear and worry over that as well. I was petrified that when he was born I woulnd't love him, which thankfully wans't the case, but through my whole pregnancy he was just 'it'. This thing I had wanted so bady for so long, that now was just something growing in me making me feel horrible all the time, that no matter how much I willed myself to, I just coulnd't love.

But everyone always talks about how wonderful and fabulous pregnancy is, and how it's the most fabulous time of your life and how it's so great to bond with the baby and on and on, so I never said anything. Becasue I didn't want peopel to think I was a bad person or that I Was going to be a bad mother. I still don't like to say it/talk about it, I would probably be trying to pretend it all just didn't happen or wasn't as bad as it was, so maybe that's where my waying "the therapist thinks" comes in

    Sal - Thanks

AFU - B is cracking me up at the moment. I have the radio on, and he's bopping away to all the songs. He dances to any music that plays and it is SO CUTE. At the moment he's bouncing around with his arms out and he sort of pushes them up and down as he bops. He also head bangs and does the twist....hehehe

Dr T... wow, big hugs to you my dear I had no idea any of that was going on. I guess none of us did, huh? I'm really glad you've started talking to someone about it... Must be very hard to open up. I hope she continues to help you learn things about yourself and maybe start to heal.

I've heard of people going through a similar thing to that... people who struggled to conceive, had to go through IVF, then had a really tough pregnancy... I think its not that unusual somehow. And then like you were worried about, they don't bond with the baby, don't feel love for the baby. You are a fantastic mother to B and you come across as such a lovely person through here, I'm a lil bit sad to read that you're having these troubles. Again, and and I really hope that opening up on here about it is helping in some way.

X loves music and does very cute little dance moves too... he kind of bobs his head from side to side and tries to clap his hands at the same time, which inevitably ends up in him loosing balance and falling over But it is very cute.

Yeah I did get upset about the potential weaning. Didn't help that about 99% of people that I spoke to IRL about it basically said that its just what happens at that age and that I should just move on... even my sister, who I am very close to, said that's what her kids did, at almost the same age, and I should just accept that it might be over. Apart from the fact that I believe under 12 months is too young to self-wean (and Barb confirmed that), I wasn't ready for him to wean! So I was very pleased when he decided to give it another go.

Re: work. I'm a business analyst, if you know what that is? I can't remember what it is you do but I remember it's project based so I'm wondering if you do know what a BA does...? Anyway if you don't, it's lots of computer work (hence being able to be on BB so much at work ), lots of meetings, talking to people and writing documents. I used to enjoy it... but when I look back on my career thus far, the highlights have been when I have been working with people - running workshops and training sessions. So I'm thinking maybe HR... recruitment or learning and development or something.

The problem is - if I switch across, I'll have to go back to the bottom of the food chain (or at least a few steps down) and that'll mean less $$$$$. Boo! So I'm tossing it up, keeping an eye on internal job postings and thinking about things while I keep doing my BA stuff.

When are you back full time?

And most importantly - how many days til your Mom arrives?? (look - I americanised it for you )

Thanks for the Salad and OP!

OP, I've been taking T to swimming since he was 4 months old and gymboree since he was 6mo, but it's a real challenge with his sleeping being so terrible both day and night. I swear I've had to reschedule more lessons than we've attended, and I've tried changing to different times of day but he's just too unpredictable. So some weeks we don't go at all. At the moment we've got 6 swimming lessons to make up, and we only have a weekly booking! I also have a mother's group that in thoery meets fortnightly but in practice there's a lot of cancellations. Haven't heard of mini maestros or mainly music - shall have to look into them, thanks.

I would love to have the skills to do the kind of work you do! Fingers crossed you find an internal opening that would be perfect for you.

Dr Tal - I was wondering how the heck you managed to sound so cheerful all the time when you had morning sickness your whole pregnancy! And your saying that wasn't the only problem! How are you feeling about the whole TTC#2 then? You know, I had a textbook great pregnancy - I really enjoyed it until the last few weeks. But the thought of being pregnant for another 9 months, and then having another baby at the end of it just makes me think I'd have a mental breakdown. I always thought I'd have 2 kids close together but if there's going to be #2 for us it'll be a while away I suspect!

I hope the therapist leads DH to the conclusion that people don't change and it's better for your family to cut his mum out of your lives! (Is that a horrible thing to hope?)

As for dancing babies - T does his non-standing, non-walking version. He hits the button on his vtech walker (thanks for putting me onto that one Dr T) so that it plays music and bounces up and down on his knees with his hands up in the air. SO CUTE!

Emma - You ended up getting one did you??!! They're FANTASTIC aren't they? B still LOVES his even though he doesn't need it to walk anymore. I've disconnected his touch pad and he wanders around carrying it. That's so cute that E sits in front of his and bum dances

I am a practiced master of creating a huge wall and letting everyone think on the outside that everything is fine. Has to do with growing up with a very abusive alcholic father. TTC number two is really what brought everything to the surface. I have very strong issues with having an only child (it's a hang up of mine...again the abusive alcholic father...who was an only child). I definitely want two children, but I started to have panic attacks and not sleep and all these other things when we started TTC number two, so I went to a councillor, who told me I really needed to see a psych...so here I am. Ironically enough the thought of having an only child is worse for me then the thought of going through another pregnancy even if it's as bad as the one I had with B (I mentioned I have a few hang ups given to me by my fabulous father right?)

And another huge for you. All the problems with T sleeping must be really hard to cope with. Being sleep deprived is really horrible and it must really play havoc on your system both mentally and physically. Are you able to put him in daycare for another day a week? Just to give you some time to sleep? One day to get caught up on grocery shopping and the like and the other to literally just sleep?

And I don't think it's horrible at all to hope that my DH decides not having his mother in our lives will be better for everyone because it's the exact same thing I've been hoping for!

OP - that's for posting the list for us! It's strange to see so many names on it as we've not heard from so many mum's in such a long time. I certanly hope they and bubs are all doing well.

My therapist says it's quite common for lots of women to suffer mild PTSD from pregnancy, but most people don't say anything at all about it becasue it's not the 'accepted thing' to say that pregnany isn't a magical time of sunshine and fluffy clouds. She thinks there should be a support group of some time similar to what has been created for PND, but that so few people speak about it it's hard to know how many women like us there are. She has a collegue that is actually doing a PhD thesis on it and I've agreed to be part of her research when she gets to that part of it.

Thankfully I was able to bond to B as soon as he was born (as in I loved him from the second I saw him...literally), but I feel ripped off that I wasn't able to bond with him before he was born...ah well.

And being a practiced master of 'all is well in Dr. Tal land' not even my DH knew that I wasn't eating properly. So yes...no one, and I do mean no one actually knew what was going on in my mind till I had my first panic attack. And even then it was only picked up because I had it in front of one of my friends that herself has had panic attacks so knew exactly what it was or I probably wuold have tried to pass it off as just an asthma attack.

I was such a scatterbrain yesterday. There were so many things that I had wanted to write, and then I just posted without having written half of what I wanted to say.

OP- I can completely understand how upset you’d have been with X. And I’d have been exactly the same with B. less then a year is too young to self wean! I’d have been beside myself. I love BF’ing B so much I couldn’t imagine ending that relationship now. I wonder if some of the people’s comments were well meaning but were just coming out wrong. As in they were trying to say something to make you feel better but just making it worse ITMS?

My mum gets here in 9 more sleeps and I am SO EXCITED!! I really can’t wait for her to get here. She reckon she’s got an entire suitcase of stuff just for B. Toys and clothes and books

A busness analyst huh? Yeah, I kinda have a general idea of what they do. I work for the local council as a strategic planner, so I don’t work directly with any business analysts, but we do have them here, and I do deal indirectly with them from time to time.

Not knowing where you work, this suggestion might not be appropriate at all, but have you thought about looking into consultant agencies? I know there are some around that primarily just run seminars and the like for large companies and government agencies and generally speaking consultants get paid really well, so it might not end up being a pay drop. I can definitely understand not being able to afford that.

When do I start back to work full time? Tuesday the 5th of July, so basically in two more work weeks. IT would be the 4th, but that is show holiday. It still amases me that you actually get a public holiday to go to the show here

X’s dancing would be so cute. B still doesn’t clap his hands. Whenever I try to get him to he just gives me this look as if to say “what are you on woman? Why would I want to do THAT?” Ah well, I’m sure he’ll clap eventually

Emma – I apologize if you’ve already thought of this or are doing it, but given that T’s sleep patterns are so erratic, perhaps you could just find a whole heap of kiddie things to do (aim for 1 or 2 a day) that you don’t need to pre-register for, and then if he happens to be awake at the right time you can cart him off to it. I suspect that if you call up and explain your situation most places would be fairly understanding and flexible, they would be use to working with kids and should understand how erratic and unpredictable they can be. For some ideas (I can’t remember where you live in Brisbane…just that you live there…sorry ) google the bub hub….too difficult to explain…I’ll just e-mail you the link

Probably should actually try and get some work done now!

Yup, I've gone back to school, I'm doing my yr 11/12 .. Picking up from where I left off after Ayva was born. Aiden's birthday was today but he's getting his presents when its his party (I'm a meanie aren't I? lol) And I'm doing a combined party for him and Ayva though her bday isn't till the 29th. Oh, and its all decked out in Thomas again, this boy is obsessed with trains lol .. Other then that though I haven't really been doing much. I've finished my hours on my L's but haven't done the test yet as my dad had a shoulder reconstruction and I have noone else to drive with. Oh, I have gotten my septum and cheeks pierced too .. I love them .. Also, snowed here today!!!! I'll show you photos that I got today of Aiden and his little friend Facebook

M2A – How did the joint birthday party go?

Congrats on going back to school. That’s fantastic! How are you going with it all?
You’ll also have to let us know when you go for your drivers license! So many things going on all at the same time!

OP – Thanks heaps for B’s birthday wishes. I can’t believe he turned 1 on Sunday He had an absolutely fantastic day on Sunday! Will write more about that later. Looks like X is the next off the rack for birthdays. His is on Thursday…if I’m not mistaken. Are you having a small party for him then or waiting for the weekend?

My mum is Mimi, MIL (blerg) is grandma (I can’t put the emphasis like she wants it to have in text GraNDmA…nope…still not quite there….it can’t just be grandma like a normal person would say it, she obviously seems to think if you emphasize it a certain way it will make B like her more….WHATEVER )

Sal – Thanks! They are growing WAY too fast aren’t they? Both E and T have one more week then they’re the big 1!!

    BIRTHDAY FUN (mostly)!
B started the day by sleeping in till 8:30 which is unheard of for him, he’s usually up and powering by 6:15 at the latest.

I think he would have slept longer, but Poppy (FIL called to wish him a happy birthday, and he woke up when he heard the phone ring). So we invited him over to watch B open his presents. He had a blast tearing open the paper, and I don’t think he knew what he should do, play with the toy he’d just opened or pull paper off another. Mimi and I went crazy buying him stuff and he had so many things to open it was almost ridiculous I didn’t actually buy him anythyign at all until Friday…oops…bad me. That’s probably not entirely true…what I probably should say is that everything I bought him for his birthday before that had already been given to him because I have no will power when it comes to my baby boy and couldn’t wait to watch him play with it so gave it to him pretty much as soon as I’d bought it I got him a little table and chairs (because he sits at a little table in a little chair at daycare to eat and to paint, and when I’ve been there he’s really enjoyed it). It was a blue elephant/jungle table with a lion and elephant seat with pencils as the legs and chair backs….really cute. I’ll have to get my act together and put a heap of photos up on photo bucket. I also got him an elephant that shoots balls out of it’s trunk, a seahorse that plays music and has a light for him to go to sleep with, a robot (way too old for him but DH loved it and snuck it in the trolly, it’s suppose to be for ages 3+ eh.) that plays music and has a little keyboard on the front of it, and a Woody/Toy Story chair. He LOVES sitting in it. He spent about 20 minutes just standing up then sitting back down…cracked me up. My brother sent him over a shock gobbler (it’s a turkey call, you shake it and it makes a gobble sound…hehehe. I LOVE IT….oops…B loves it hahaha) and my two nieces picked out this food set thing that has salad and bread that velcros together with a little wooden knife and cutting board. That kept him occupied for ages as well, only I felt kinda bad cause he kept trying to eat the wooden food. Hahah. Mimi got him some stacking rings, and a baby swing, a vtech top that sings songs and teaches him marine animal stuff. And a wooden bead thing-a-ma-jigger (that being the technical term LOL). I’m sure there were a few other things, but I can’t for the life of me remember what they were. Poppy felt bad because he didn’t bring his present because he was going to give it to him at the party we are having at his place next weekend….I don’t think B cared. I think just having him there was a big enough present for B. He was all smiles as soon as he saw him. DH also fixed up and old swingset for him (sanded it all down and re-painted it, and made new seats for the big swing and see-saw thingy) and we put the swing on it that Mimi got him. He’s spent at least 6+ hours on it since DH finished it Sunday morning. We also got a load of sand and finally filled up his sand box that DH finished for him. It’s a boat and the steering wheel had fallen off and one side needed new wood, so DH did that up for him. All the kids had a ball in that at the party.

His 1st party (he has his second one next Sunday) started at 2. All our friends arrived on time and the kids were running amok in the yard. MIL and SIL didn’t actually show up till close to 4 then MIL chucked a wobbly cause we’d already started the BBQ and most people had finished eating. She stayed for all of about 20 minutes the left…get this….because she had to go to the show. Apparently we were ruining her show weekend by having B’s birthday party that Sunday. Why couldn’t we have been more considerate and had it on another day…why did it have to be THAT Sunday :WTF: sorry if having your grandson’s B-day party on his actual B-day is such an inconvenience to you!! I think I’d repressed my memory from last year where she abused me for going into labour on the first day of the show and ruining her show weekend by actually having my baby! Because she HAD to come visit us in the hospital when she SHOULD have been at the show!! Gah. I couldn’t hold my tongue and actually told her good…no one wanted her there anyway and we’d all have a much better time once she was gone when we weren’t all tip toeing around trying not to say something that would start her on a tangent and ruin the whole thing for B. Then I slammed the gate on her heals…as in it actually hit her heals as she was on the way out, then locked her out LOL. I think she was hoping DH would come after her and try to convince her to stay as she milled about in the driveway for about 15 minutes then decided to come back, but I HAD locked all the gates and she was banging on the front one for about 10 minutes before she gave up and left all in a huff. Had DH’s best mate and his wife in hysterics laughing at her (or perhaps it was B they were laughing at because every time she’d bash on the gate he’s scream BANG BANG BANG in delight and nearly kill himself giggling!). Apart from her we had a good day though. SIL even behaved herself. Her new boyfriend has been a hugely positive influence on her. They both stayed after MIL had left. Her boyfriend socialized with all our friends and fit right in. She was really uncomfortable, but made an effort…which was good. Nephew had a blast running around and playing with the other kids. Mimi made him a cool barnyard cake, which we ended up putting a cyclone candle on because I forgot to buy proper birthday candles He promptly took his piece over to the dog water and dunked it several times (to moisten it one can only assume) before jamming it into his mouth and smearing it all over his face. The dunking things in the dog water bowls is the new thing he’s doing with all his foods.

    Think that about covers it.

Can’t wait to hear all about your little one’s parties!

Happy birthday Shay!!!!! Hope you have a lovely day today with your fantastic mummy, daddy and big sister! Jessey: enjoy!!!

Well its been a bit quiet in here! I can only imagine we are all busy with birthdays and enjoying our little 1yos!

We had a great birthday for X. Friday I dropped the kids at the ILs so I could get my hair done ( priorities!!!) and the ILs had a MASSIVE stack of pressies for DS, and even two for DD - they are so thoughtful. DD had more fun with them all, TBH, than DS, and we are having on-going issues with her understanding that they belong to DS and he is being nice to "share" them with her! Ah the joys of a 2.5yo!

So that was morning play with the grandparentals. We had lunch with some family (my sis and kids, mum, DH and the ILs) at a local pub that has a good kids play area - food was average but they kids had a great play and mum and sis were happy they got to see DS.

Fri arvo ILs came around with more presents (the ones that didn't get opened in the morning!!! As I said MASSIVE stack!) and more playing ensued while DH and I cleaned up a bit and got ready for the party.

Sat morning was party time!!! We had our outsourced party at the play centre and it was a big success! At one stage we had 17 kids and 40 adults coming which was freaking us all out a bit, PC staff included as they aren't really used to dealing with that many adults! But we had a few last minute cancellations and ended up with 12 kids and probably only 35 adults, who all arrived at different times so it didn't feel to chaotic.

DH and I got to chat to everyone, DH got into the play equipment with the kids, the food arrived without me having to do anything, everything was cleaned up without me having to do anything - fabulous!

Kids were stuffed at the end of it, good time had by all!

Spent yesterday recovering, tidying and enjoying all of DS' new presents!

Oh - except for the late-night dash to my friend's house so her DH could glue DS' head back together!!!! Poor little mite tripped in the morning and smashed his head on the very corner or a door frame - like the very pointy corner bit! He bled, we iced and put a bandaid on, come bath time took it off, it was still pretty raw looking and oozy, so I called my friend's DH - he's in charge of the ED at a Melbourne hospital so he knows what's what!

We took a photo and MMSed it to him (God bless technology!) and he said to come over - he lives opposite his hospital so he wandered over, grabbed some supplies and wandered home again, I took DS over and he cleaned it and glued it together. Its just a small cut but this should help it heal. Dr said it isn't deep, more of a crush injury. Poor little guy!

He's fine today though, well he was when I left for work anyway!

Sal - did you have a pahtee on the weekend too? How did it all go??

Dr T - sounds like the first party was awesome! Can't believe your MIL... what a cack about her trying to get back in after you locked her out! That's really great about SIL and the new man in her life. Hope the positive influence continues.

Mimi's cake sounded lovely too - cyclone candle notwithstanding!!! I don't even know what a cyclone candle is?!?!

How did the second party go?? Is your mum still here?

    Our babies are growing up!!
