Thanks girls. I have been minimising discussion and putting him back to bed straight away with no fuss. Last night we did end up having a cuddle and quiet talk about going to bed at the last time and he went off to sleep after that and slept through!!!! Tonight I gave him the cuddle and quiet talk before putting him into bed for the first time and he didn't get out once I know it won't last but am thankful for small things at this stage. Plus he went back to daycare today so was probably more tired than normal. We don't read stories before bed here because they have tended to hype him up and signal playtime but last night I realised he was unable to wind down on his own (excited about going back to daycare - he really missed it LOL) so tonight I did the cuddle thing but maybe it is time and he is old enough to have a couple of bedtime stories to help wind down.

I forgot to mention, DP has been given between 10-20% chance of being able to have more kids and we should know within about 12-18months if the swimmers are going to return so that is good news in that it's not final and we will know in the next year or so whether to keep hoping or not.
