Arte - to be honest Noah doesnt do a lot of the things you describe... thats my honest response - but I also dont think what you write in that post sounds 'abnormal' (I think Noah is generally a v well behaved/placid character). I think it is a great sign that they find him well adjusted at kinder too. His language has always been good (as has Noah's) - I found that a huge help on the tantrum front (Noah has never been much of a tantrummer) - given he is advanced in language do you think that has helped him express himself (i always though the advanced language was a key factor in avoidance of tantrums from Noah). The attention seeking behaviour (peeing on the floor) - have never had anything even close to that with Noah - but again maybe he is the other end in behaviour (though I havent heard of that a lot from others either). I am not menaning to compare our kids - they are all so different (as we are) - but I am just answering as you asked if our kjids act how you have described. If so much is stemming from his sleep do you think that may be something a GP could help you with? I have also done 'comforted sleep' with both boys and it has been a long ropad but a good one overall - but maybe the GP would have some other ideas to help with W (and A and no 3).
you sound a bit 'defensive' in your post - I hope my post doesnt come across as anything other than trying to help you - you sound at the end of your tether and it sounds as though you need to act on it, to get some help for you all... I offer my ideas only out of wanting to help you with something that has been going on for soooo long now. hugs xxx
arte: my friends kid who is Leila's age does protest wees and poos quite often...i reckon it is all in the realm of normal...gross but normal haha!
but i guess if you are worried and have a GP you trust to mention it too (ie they wont start medicalising without warrant IYKWIM then ask them about it, you know him best )
If you think that the CIO would have worked better for him, then it's not too late to do it. It might be absolute hell for a few nights or a week, but what have you got to lose? Personally I don't think you did anything that would have made a difference to the way he is, but you have to give it a try.
I want to add too that I truly did not mean to upset you by suggesting it, but I have seen this before with other children, that's all. I wont ever mention it again

I too did not at all mean to offend. The only reason it crossed my mind was because of the stories you tell Arte, some of his behaviors do seem a little out of the ordinary at times. But like you say, so do my childs! Maybe it's just the way it comes across on the computer, as obviously i have never met W. Being on the spectrum doesn't mean a child is dysfunctional there are so many degrees of the spectrum. Some of the worlds greatest achievers are on the spectrum. I am sure his kinder teachers would have a better understanding of him than we do, i am sure they would mention it if they thought it was an issue. Sorry if i offended you. x I still think seeking help for his sleep problems is a good idea. Especially with a third on the way. I worry how you will manage with no sleep and three young kids, i know i wouldn't cope.
Arte- if he was my son I would be taking him to a dr for a general check up and discussion of his behaviour. It really can't hurt and might give you some strategies to deal with the sleep issues.
No worries guys. I wasn't offended, I just don't think that is an issue. But I do complain about the bad things without mentioning the good times so it is natural to think he is always....odd. Like that summer that he freaked out every time the wind blew on him, and when he had a meltdown if there were tags on his clothes. He has grown out of that, but spectum/sensory issues did cross my mind more than once. He has really come right since he turned 3. The good times last longer and the bad cycle isn't as bad and doesn't last as long as it used to. I think it is just a matter of waiting it out now.
Trill, we did try CIO a few weeks ago but I think we have missed the boat on that one - they need to be immobile. He screamed/pleaded/begged for two hours and trashed his room. In the end we gave up because he was sobbing saying "there is nothing to be scared of, there is nothing to be scared of..." - we couldn't keep going after that.
Ginger, I will ask DH if he thinks a trip to the Dr is worth doing. I don't know that he will be worried that W isn't sleeping though, but he will think I am mental because I know that I would end up crying lol.
MD, haven't seen you around for a while, hope all is well in your world xx
JM, are you feeling better now? I hope you aren't still sick all the time. S's cake looked awesome, your girls are very beautiful. Do you think L will keep those curls? I love them!
Hi everyone
Well in other news, L is totally loving swimming and soccer this term. If anyone is looking for an activity, I can highly recommend soccer. L absolutely loves it.
Also remember the kinder mum that I wanted to make friends with? Well she has actually invited me to her house on thurs for a play date yah! Really happy to make some new friends this year!
We are heading off on a little holiday next weekend too so hoping the nice weather lasts a little longer
G, I would love to do soccer (well W would, I wobble too much when I run lol). But there is nothing like that around here. Sucks to live in a small community sometimes.
Any news about the body in your street?
Awesome about your new friend too. I am also going well the the new lady that I wanted to be friends with. Our DH's also get along and have gone on a couple of hunting dates.
Arte- spewing you don't have soccer lessons nearby, they are fantastic. Do they have any other sports you could do?
Yes they have worked out who the body is. A 31 yo father of 5 from a few suburbs away who has been missing for 2 weeks. He was seen getting into a car. Probably killed somewhere else and then dumped here, hoping that the body would not be discovered for ages but there are heaps of bush walkers around here on weekends.
Great going on your new friend! Im wrapped to be moving away from my old mothers group crowd a bit
G that is great news that she's invited you around. I'm sure you will hit it off.
We don't have much available for toddlers in the way of sports until they get to school age, so 5. I'm not a soccer person at all though LOL. I imagine that he will follow Lindsay and play AFL. Although we do have a soccer ball here and when he runs around kicking it his coordination to run and kick the ball where he wants is to go is pretty good I reckon.
Well I have netball training tonight. I'm looking forward to getting back into playing sports, but at the same time I'm dreading the fitness part of the training LOL. But when I was in Canberra I brought a super strength sports bra and a pair of Skins shorts to stop my backside wobbling ROFL. I'm not a fan of the uniform we have to wear either - been a long time since I wore a skirt that short!
LOL Trill, I saw some comedian saying she couldn't run because her "outer shell wasn't snug with her skeletal system" and it comes to mind every time I have to run.
Ginger, there is no pre-schooler sports here. There was soccer a couple of years ago, but some weeks no one was turning up so the lady decided not to do it anymore.
Arte: what a horrible time you've been having. I agree it's might be time to take some more radical steps to get the sleep sorted out. There is a continuum of techniques from comforted to controlled crying without extreme CIO methods so there may well be another method that will work for you. You know I've said a few times how W reminds me very much of one of my dear friend's sons, she also had huge issues getting him to sleep, OTT behaviour - not all the time, either, just sometimes. Turns out with him (and his brother) they both had food sensitivities. Once she got all the chemicals out of their diets (even things like corn and citrus, etc, did the whole failsafe thing) - HUGE improvement, behaviour, sleep, concentration, everything. Not sure if this is helpful but I think it's worth checking out, just because i've seen for myself what an amazing difference it made. Esp with the sleep.
Cass, so proud of you! When will you hear back from them?
Thanks for asking after me, Arte, all well here, just very busy. Have the iLs here, and went to a 2 day workshop on the weekend, then the working week rolls around, add to that the study I'm NOT doing and it makes me very busy .
Arte: i was up last night with the girls and man, i thought of you, and honestly, i have no idea on what to offer other than total support. it must be tough, especially as W is able to really express his emotion in such a complex way ITMS.
G: ohhh i LOVE making new friends . that is very cool that you got away from the MG and BAM! got a great friend in the making!
MD: i have been told that it will no doubt be in excess of 4 months before they let me know if i am doctor clare or not....eeeppp! they better....
i think i am exhausted just reading your post lol. you and trill have such hectic schedules! was the workshop work related?
sherie: how did netball go? did you conquer the skirt ?
AFM: well Leila is a sick little poppet today (and yesterday). she has a vomiting bug. had the runs yesterday but none so far today (i guess she has thrown up everything). poor thing. so we are holed up at home and i have her in front of the tv with a bucket and a lavender infused washer on her head...i'm all outta ideas on this one. i have also those gastrolyte ice-poles thingos which she seems happy to chomp down.
hi girls
Arte - the food thing could be a good one to look in to - i have also had a few friens who have had remarkable turnarounds in kids behaviour with some modifications. that said, i know one or 2 of them struggled with how intense it all is to organise so it is def not a quick fix (not that I think thats what you are looking for, but i was amazed how restricted they had to be for periods of time).
Cass - the boys also have a tummy bug. jakey seems to be at the end of it but Noah started vomiting last night. we were also up all night with them both.
I have a job int today - cant believe after 9 yrs i am testing the waters - well more than testing the waters - this is the final round.
afm - Noah has an appt with a paedeatric cardiologist today - and i am worried now... the dr found a murmur a few months back when he was sick. said not to worry about it unless it was there when he didnt have a fever. tested again a few months later (w no fever) and it was still there. so we are off to have it checked today. of course i looked it up last night (after resisting for so long) and i feel like he has the symptoms of when you should worry it is something that needs either medication or surgery... he gets breathless when he exerts himsefl physically (and doesnt always keep up with others e.g. w running), and when he was younger he did get blue lips/fingers when he was cold (i especially rememebr one time at the beach) - i also have poor circ so didnt think much of it. plus there are the 'blue attacks' esp when he was younger when he was v v upset.... trying not to think about all the possibilities and so hope she says he is fine..... (my dada died of heart diesease at 39, dont think this is really related at all, but of course my mind has gone into overdrive...)
Mp- Lu has a heart murmur too. We had to see a paed cardiologist. They are very common and mostly benign. Fingers crossed his is one of those ones. If you have to have an echocardiogram or any imaging, I'd highly recommend going to the children's. They are so well set up for kids it makes things much easier.
MP, I can understand why you are worried! I think I remember you posting about the blue attack thing when he was little. Lots of people live happily with a minor heart murmur and there is still a chance he will grow out of it. Good luck at the appointment xx
And good luck for the job interview! What made you decide on a change? Is it still in Melbourne?
