i reckon just fly by the seat of your pants JM. if she doesnt like it then you always have the option to take her out. are you *forced* to keep her there the whole time? or can you ninja her outta there a bit earlier if need be?
That is earlier. You can drop them off from 7.30-am and pick them up at 6.30pm but the hours i said are kind of the minimum! They cater for working parents with the long hours....
jm- do you have to do the full 3 days or can you just do 2?
i hate to say i told you so, but i totally told you so about the swimming lessons! L has come along leaps and bounds since he's been going in without me. is sas going to go in the water without you?
cass- it is on neptune lane, a total back street. you sort of have to look for it but it's well worth it.
They do a three day program and to get the best out if it they recommend the three days. I'll see how she gies this week. Which means I can't do Friday sorry ladies. Can do mon tues or a weekend if you guys are free....
Would you guys be able to meet up on Saturday 21st may?
5 degrees here tomorrow and we have no firewood waaaah!
Do what?
Get me some wood or meet on the Saturday?
Ginger, isn't there a whole forest full of trees up on the hill there? Must be some logs lying around somewhere. Get DH to do a quick reccie with the chainsaw half an hour before he heads out to work tomorrow. (Either that or a quick run to the servo for one of their bags)??
Brrrrr. Getting a bit nippy here too but definitely no chance of snow LOL
Winter is well and truly showing her face LOL. It's been quite cold here too.
JM, it's always the way with swimming lessons. I love not having to get in the pool with them for lessons.
G: i wish i could give you some firewood...that does not sound like fun...
but yeah meant the meet!!
I know :) I was just kidding ;)
Md I might have to send dh out on a wood hunt, the problem is all the wood around here is so wet it really needs to dry out for a few months before it burns well
Ginger did you manage to stay warm and dry and toasty today?
There's a house up the street with a free firewood sign out the front, I nearly pulled over until I remembered you're in a different state LOL.
Loving the gas heater today, parked myself next to it with all my study bits (although at one point I did need an emergency hot chocolate).
Cass, I've been meaning to ask about L's fruit allergy? What happened with that in the end? ARe you still avoiding some things?
Arte - yay for your night away! Hilarious though that you're taking in Kevin Bloody Wilson . And big yay for the getting of friends and massages too. Geez I could do with one of those.
Well i'm pooping myself since I got my metadata assignment back and I only got 60%.- I'm running loads behind on my forum contributions (ironic, yeah, I know) which are partly scored based on their frequency and timeliness (more irony!!) - I'm terrified of failing, not for the failing (there are worse things in life) but because I'm on the study scheme at work I would have to tell them. So potential failure and public humiliation all rolled into one. Fark why do I do this to myself???
i was out and about doing things for most of the day. i actually drove through sleet this morning to get to a friend's place. kids thought it was so cool! then when i dropped L off at kinder on the way home and J went to bed. the house was so cold and i didn't want to drag J out of bed to go and pick up L so i called dad over and he came and sat here while i went to pick up L so that little J could stay in bed :) then dh got home and brought.......firewood! yah!!!!
geez you dont get any houses around here giving away free firewood! as soon as a tree falls down everyone turns up with their ute and chainsaw and grabs what they can
what is forum posting all about md? i'm so confused!
That's so sweet of your dad to come over (to sit a in a cold house too) for you. Glad you've got the wood happening now.
There are loads of these spacky terribly obvious exercises to do (teeeeedious) and you're supposed to post your answers for the benefit of the other students. To "stimulate discussion". In a subject which is so devoid of interest that it has to be artificially manufactured. :wall: Anyway I'm supposed to have been busy on this for weeks but i'm so far up CBF'ed Lane I haven't. I'm now I'm sweating.
G, they have discussion boards similar to these where you can post questions and stuff too. Yay for firewood. It was cold here today too.
MD, I had to do that for one of my subjects last year and it sucked bigtime. But it was a major part of passing the course so you had to do it. An english subject I have now does it too and it's about stuff that is boring as bat**** but luckily we aren't being marked on it. Can you spend a day just catching up on the forum stuff?
Yeah, that's the other sucky bit. I'm totally used to being able to pull stuff out of my bum in a fraction of the time it takes anyone else but now post-chemo the cogs turn. oh. so. slowly. Everything takes about 4 times as long as it used to (even reading takes longer). The plan is to catch up in stages over the next week but I'm worried my score will be so low I may not limp across that pass line. Boohoo can you tell I'm totally PMTing here today?
MD, do you have an exam for your paper or is it all internally assessed? Remember that if you are scoring low then everyone else probably is too.
The forum thing sounds horrible. I am very lucky in that our distance ed is entirely self sufficient - there are no group assignments or forum anythings.
Sounds like it is colder in Australia than it is here! We are amazed that it is mid may and we don't really need the fire on. There have been a couple of colder mornings but mainly I am putting it on to dry washing.
Just read all the posts but it has fallen straight out of my head. Barely slept last night, W woke at 10.30pm and didn't go back to sleep. I was lying at the end of his bed until 2am, but he was wide awake and couldn't lay there anymore so I put telly on for him. He was still watching when DH got up with A at 4am and he is still awake. He doesn't even look tired. Is there a genetic component to insomnia? I have always had a problem but I was hoping that the kids wouldn't get it :(
I just told the IL's I wouldn't need them when DH was away next month, but I can't manage if there are going to be no sleep nights! I am already wondering how to cope with all the wake-ups and the 4am starts without DH to help. Terrible, but do you think a Dr would give me a some sort of make-her-sleep pill for A? She is waking about every two hours, takes an hour to resettle, I get back to bed and an hour later she is awake again. Then she gets up at 4-5am.
Far out Arte. I'm not sure if they'd give you anything for A, but you can always ask. Is she still feeding overnight? I don't know how W can manage that? Far out. I'd be asking about that too, surely they can help with a 3 year old who is awake ALL night?! :o That can't be good for the little guy. (Or you,)
Lu's first day at Kinder was great. There were lots of tears...... when i had to take her home. She wanted to stay. Maybe it was because they were about to have cake for afternoon tea? I can't believe the food, they had fruit and homemade dips for morning tea, apricot chicken and couscous for lunch and homemade apricot teacake for arvo tea. I want to go to kinder! I think is was most traumatic for S, she cried for about an hour because she wanted L. But we went shopping and a babycino sorted her out. :) Hopefully the novelty doesn't wear off and she loves it.
G- i can not believe how cold it is. I wish we still lived up the road, i would have had loads of free fire wood for you.
Trill- You are so right, it is soooo much better not getting in the pool. I am trying to convince the lady S is fine by herself too. Wouldn't that be a dream. ;)
MD- you should be eligible for special consideration, have you applied?
wow i can't believe how much uni has changed since i was there. forum posts! unbelievable! i had enough trouble just getting my assignments in and turning up to the exams let alone anything else. i honestly don't think i could study now, you girls are champions for doing it i reckon. well done! :) having said that though, i think i am going to have to do a bit to get my teaching registration up and running again when i want to work again. oh well! i guess i'll worry about that when the time comes
jm- i love how you say 'i wish i still lived up the road' lol -that's a mighty long road!!
that food sounds amazing! so glad L is loving it so much
arte- i really don't know about the kids' sleeping and what to do. i mean, that can not be good for him to be awake all night like that. it must really affect his mood the next day. i would definitely be going to the gp for some advice.
W seems fine today mood-wise. He fell asleep on a chair at mothers group for an hour, seems happy enough now so I guess that will do him. He doesn't usually do all nighters, but has done twice this week. Just seems wide awake, like someone has given him a cup of coffee. I even gave him sleepy tixylix at 2am and he stayed up anyway - that usually zonks him! He said he wasn't hungry at tea time, had a spew and then he was fine again but I am guessing he has some sort of virus? One that makes him completely un-tired??
JM, A has been night weaned since december and fully weaned since feb. Didn't make a difference to her sleep. She is getting molars atm, maybe something will improve after they are through?? L's kindy sounds great!
JM - kindy sounds awesome, so jealous that food is provided, that's the only thing I don't like about our centre
Arte - what about the phenergane (sp?), that usually knocks kids out doesn't it? But test before DH goes away because it can make them hyper too. But looking on the bright side, it's quite a skill to fall asleep on a chair!!
Arte, have you done any reading around child sleep disorders? Any bells ringing on that front? If you think A is waking due to molar pain, have you tried giving her a longer-acting pain relief like nurofen, does that make any difference? Maybe you need to reconsider having your ILs help (if they're actually helpful) while DH is away. I know I complained a lot about my ILs but when DH was away, it was the sum total of a number of different things, the occasional load of laundry, dinner done a couple of times, etc, that did make a difference. BTW yet again your description of W reminds me of my friends son - he gets really hyper when he's sick too. I don't understand the relationship but she says it has something to do with his food sensitivities, so that might be worth reading up on in case there's some measures you could take there.
The forum thing is actually one of the assessible components. No exams - phew. I've done some disaster planning around a potential fail scenario and I've decided even if the worst happens, it will be excruciating but no one ever died of embarrassment, right? In the meantime I've booked myself in for a thorough head-reading with someone who specialises in this area, because I can feel the depression circling out there in the darkness.
oh no that's no good MD. great that you are talking to someone though xoxo
well in other news my stall raised $1300 for L's kinder at the chestnut festival a few weeks ago. Yah! feel pretty proud that i contributed. we made a grand total of $11 000.
Well done Ginger!!
That's amazing Ginger. I can't remember if you told us what the stall was?
that is an awesome fundraiser G! far out! that beats the freddo frog chocolate boxes i usually end up eating all to myself
MD: oohhhhh that forum stuff does sound soooo boring and tedious. i hate having to waste my energies on boring crapola like that. i still find it so weird now that they get students to do all this cyber community stuff: i never understood how it contributed to intellectual inquiry TBH (our undergrads are forced to do these waste of time blogs that they dont like doing and we dont like marking lol!).
Arte: oh wow. oh wow. that night with W sounds so hard babe. i wonder if you can contact some sleep experts from a uni or whatnot, as seriously, i think there is something more going on with it (or maybe not, as the case may be: especially if you too have insomnia).
AFM: well, having a crapulent day. dont know why, but things are just balancing act of holding it all together. first off it starts nicely: go to pick up the prize i won (hugg-a-lugg earth, mars and moon set). get there, see some lovely sales, but get pressured into some cute shoes, go to the counter to then find my card missing (eftpos only thankfully!), so embarrassed and also slightly relieved leave...then on the way home get completely drenched in 30secs! and THEN i get home, open the prize and the moon is missing from the pack! arrghh! so now i have to go back, ask for the moon and face the embarrassment again! argghhh! but i will do it because i really want that moon
arghhh!
Don't get me started on fundraisers, we're having our annual Girl Guide biscuit torture.
Cass, I ask myself the same thing. You would probably find it's backed by some rhetoric around Ygens and millenials learning best in Web 2.0 settings. Completely missing the point that Web 2.0 is about ORGANIC use (:wall:) I suppose in a distance ed setting it should be more valuable, but forcing the interactions like this does not add value IMO. BTW, can you post a pic of your hugalugg thingy on FB when you get it sorted out, I have no idea what it is and google returns plenty of weird and probably unrelated hits.
thanks girls. my stall was poffertjes- dutch pancakes. i got most of the ingrediants donated from local businesses and hired the cooker from a local dutch nursing home for $25 :)
Ginger, in a weird coincidence I first heard the word poffertjes today, and then log on and find you talking about them too!
MD, hope that you can get your head space sorted. Failing sucks, but other people probably wouldn't even think of it beyond the initial telling.
I am still wondering about the food intolerances. He didn't eat from lunch time on the night he stayed up all night - how long do the effects of food sensitivities last?
Haven't looked into sleep disorders but come to think of it he went though a patch of a couple of months when he was about two when he was waking for a couple of hours in the night wide awake and we planted him in front of the telly to fall back asleep. Then he did a patch of 4am day starts when he was 2.5. And the night tantrums, and the frequent waking.... It has been a long road. But mostly now he is down to one or two wake ups with quick resettles. Hoping that eventually he will sleep though.
Not sure about A. I have not found nurofen to work as well as panadol. I am certain in my mind that if we had done CIO they would have been sleeping though long ago, so it is more a created problem rather than an organic one iykwim? And I am probably going to do all the same things that ****ed it up with those two with the next one, just because I can't stand babies crying.
Re the IL's, found out when I cancelled them that it was only going to be MIL and the more I thought about it the more I realised it would just be more work for me. She wouldn't be able to do the resettles, wouldn't ask her to do the 5am starts, so I would just end up keeping the kids hushed all morning. Then she would occupy them for a couple of hours in the afternoon but I would pay for it by having to socialise and entertain when the kids were in bed when I really need a wind down no obligation time.
Cass, sorry about your day. I hope you have some M&M's on standby to cheer you up.
Grrr. DH is talking to his mother on the phone about his trip to China. I am so incredibly jealous I can't pretend to be excited for him. I always wanted to travel and he was always ambivalent about it so it never happened and now what I desperately want has fallen into his lap while I get to stay at home. He keeps saying that he will be too busy with the conference to have a good time, but unless he is sitting in the hotel eating McD's and wears a blindfold as they tour different factories around the country it will be a hell of a lot better than sitting around here.
Double post, but I will use the opportunity to apologise for my constant whinging about sleep and everything else!
Oh Arte, never apologise to us babe  i think that we all know how hard the parenting gig is (and i mean that in a whole point of view, from the way it changes relationships with family and friends and the way it changes our lives ITMS).
i also get you with the help thing. i find that sometimes having another person around especially if they are not a "right hand man" kinda person can just turn out to be a bit more work.
G: mmmm poffertjes....mmmmm. i am a dutch girl afterall! i love them! i also LOVE making olebollen. mmmmm.
(oh and back to arte: i soooo get you with conference thing...DH tells me that all the time as he jetsets off. and yeah i get that they can be uninteresting but man, what i would give to travel again even if for work!)
MD: will do sista! the girls had a real laugh with them this evening, so cute to watch i made a video and when i have the spare half hour i'll upload it to FB.
Arte- don't ever feel bad about whinging to us. I've done my fair share of whinging over the years! I find it much easier to whinge on here than in real life for some reason.
Weird that you just heard poffertjes today!
Cass- is that Dutch donuts? What is it? I remember my nanna used to make beautiful German donuts. I think called ballinas or something?
Thanks guys
Ginger, I forgot to say well done for your stall! An average fundraiser here wouldn't even make that much all up - we would need every person in town to buy two to make that much money lol.
How technical are these kids of the new millennium?! W has been playing on his game console thing and he knows how to set it up and play it better than I do! Then he turned it all off and set himself up with a dvd while I was putting A to bed.
I know Arte. My kids both drive my phone and the tv system better than DH! maybe that says more about him than them.
G- how did you know the recipe for the pofertjies??? When are you making me some?
Morning!, Soz, MIA - haven't been feeling the best of late. Starting to come good now ... will slowly catch up
arrghhhh! i must be getting my first AF or something because i am rotten foul ATM ARRRGHHHHH! poor DH...
(as you can tell not much to report today other than grump grump grump bahahaha!)
Hi Andie! :hello:
Watch out Cass, it's coming up to the full moon again...
Arte, never feel bad about letting it all hang out with us . Re the food intolerances, I don't think it works quite the same as an outright allergy, it tends to be more cumulative. So you might be able to get away with small amounts of whatever they're senstive too, but a big hit and the effects last for a few days afterwards. The sort of things that set my friends' son off were often in normal healthy unprocessed food - things like corn or bananas or the brown outside part of the roast chicken, tomatoes, red apples, etc. And the really big one (that took a hwile for the penny to drop) was the bread she was buying. Once she switched to Bakers Delight/started to bake her own there was a huge improvement. Sue Dengate's book is a good place to start for background info.
BTW I'm right there with you on the travel jealousy. I always wanted to travel before I got hitched, gave that up for DH, then he got to swan around the world while I kept the home fires burning. Turkey was a really hard one to swallow for me, with my interest in m/eastern culture, music and dance. *sigh* We'll have our day too sweetie.
Hello my lovelies!
Arte, that is crappy. I really do think that there is something going on with him and having a sleep study done is certainly worth a shot. Even if it is a genetic thing, someone might be able to give you some coping strategies so it doesn't impact you all as much  Maybe you should get an amber teething necklace for A to see if that helps? Maybe even one for W - anything is worth a shot at this point.
Hey Andie! Has the morning sickness been bad this time?
MD, I think it's great that you have a plan in place now to help get you through this. I'm sure you are overselling yourself and that you will go better than what you think you will
G that is a fantastic effort on the stall! And an awesome amount you all raised too!
Cass, if it were me, I'd go back for the moon too LOL.
Cally, are the pipes still going well? ;)
Well another busy weekend here. I didn't play netball yesterday as I had a bit of a sinus infection and just didn't feel like running, and my shoulder is all out as well and quite painful once I start throwing a ball around. So I was just coaching yesterday which was a nice change. Our team lost, but we played the team at the top of the comp and we held our own so we were really pleased with how we went and that we didn't get a flogging. One of my girls though rolled her ankle and she was in so much pain the poor thing. My first aid skills came in handy though because I had to strap it for her to support it for her trip home (we were playing two hours away frm home). Luckily we don't play again now till June 4 so she has time to heal. L also played his first game of football in the Under 14's. He had already played a full game in the Under 12's but the 14's were short of players so he played another full game! He did so well through considering the size of some of the kids and even got a few tackles on them and took a couple of marks. At the end of the game he got one of the awards for being one of the best players! So proud of him.
Oh, and I brought him his first can of deodorant on Friday *sob* I picked him up on thursday after school and they end the day with PE and I noticed he was a bit pongwiffy LOL. He's going to grow up too quickly on me now I just know it.
