Malyna - well deserved!! I am looking forward to seeing your avvy I don't think there's anything wrong with a cuddle either. When Miss J won't self-settle I always take her out for a cuddle and rock, although it's getting less frequent these days.
Sorry - very short as am work. DP was up all night vomiting so I have been awake since 2am and praying it isn't gastro as we have the girls birthday this weekend and it will be a disaster if we all get sick! Also AF returned this morning so I feel rotten - first time since before I got pregnant. I haven't missed it at all!
Nai - fingers crossed you all don't get gastro and DP keeps it to himself.
We were told at teh sleep clinic to keep alex in his cot when he cried. I had major problems with it because he is not a screaming baby - so he'd be crying and the nurse would say "that's okay, he's not hysterical' and I'd be saying "no, that is my baby hysterical"
When he came out he was whimpering (which now I know is his anxious sound).
Went to the MCHN nurse today, and he's grown another cm in length and his weight is 40g heavier than on the 30th Jan. I think he's just being a baby.
Re the avatar.. mine is going to be really left field. I like all of your avatars and I did think about having a family on mine but I'd rather just see what turns up. :-D
Hi all, just quickly popping in to say I'm reading and keeping up with all the posts, just not getting a lot of time to post myself.
Sounds like we're all having downers....
Kaz sorry about your pup
Nai, sorry about AF and DP...that really sucks. Hope you're all well for the girls' birthdays.
Ali, hope DD settles into creche quickly.
Olive, wow on all those teeth! Glad DD1 is enjoying kinder.
Heaven, I'm of the same thought as you...go with the flow. Can't be bothered stressing over what he is and isn't doing. DD certainly is a clever little miss!
Malyna, sorry to hear of the settling issues. It sounds like the nurses at the sleep clinic are trying to get the babies to desensitize...I don't see how letting them scream in distress is helpful. Then again, maybe they didn't think his screaming was too bad, but obviously you know best so do not feel like you're "giving in" by picking him up! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. L does my head in continuously with his whinging and crying and cosleeping, but I pick him up and I sleep with him because that's what works. I certainly don't think it's wrong - it's not ideal for me, I'd rather him sleep through the night in his own bed sure, but I give an even higher preference for ensuring he feels loved, reassured and secure. So if that means not letting him cry and having a clingy baby then so be it. They all develop at their own pace - he won't be wanting you to carry him in 10 years time (well, that's what I keep reminding myself each time I want to scream "this is just ridiculous, shut up!!!!") Also, with his cries triggering bad memories for you, that seems an even bigger indication that your mummy instincts are right. Trust them, and pick him up if you feel he is very upset
On a more positive note...CONGRATULATIONS OP!! It's a boy yayy! Believe it or not, I've never really been peed on! Just very lucky I guess...I don't even do the covering willy with a wipe or anything, just wing it! I have no idea about toilet training though...DP is going to have to take charge there He's a bit prudish though, which I find odd. He won't undress/dress in front of L and refuses to bath/shower with him. He doesn't want L to see his man bits...is that strange for a dad? I know I had baths with both my mum and my dad...thought it was normal!
Shell, woohoo on the CC place! Hope she enjoys it.
Hi to Pinny, Ellie, Megie and anyone else I missed, sorry!
AFU, L's 8th tooth is cutting through. He now has 4 top and 4 bottom! We have his 12 month check in 2 weeks time - looking forward to weighing him Other news...DP's cousin and his wife had their first baby this morning. She was induced and had her waters broken and was in labour for something like 40 hours Only had gas and those water injections for the back pain. Amazing effort. We went to visit them today, they had a little girl! 8 and a half lbs and she looked so tiny! L was 6lb 5oz and I can't remember him being that small! Suprisingly I don't feel too clucky at all (thank God).
Anyway, it's past midnight so better be off. MG tomorrow at 11am. It suits all the other babys' routines but not ours. L still has 2 days sleeps, one at 11am and one at 3pm. Not sure what to do if we want to be there on time. Do I get him up earlier in hopes he has his first nap earlier? Or do I try and keep him awake so he only has one day sleep after lunch? I really don't want to miss out on going just because it's his sleep time
Pinny - 8 teeth - wow! now that's impressive. DH and I were the same with the nurses - we decided how we wanted to bring Alex up and they just didn't listen to our parenting style, so I just pick him up and cuddle him (thanks for everyone's support)
Olive - Alex's stats
8.5mths - W 7950, L 68.8, HC 44.8
10mths - W 8300, L 71.8 (didn't measure HC)
11mths - W 8300, L 72.5 (Jan 19)
11mths - W 8405, L 73cm, HC 46.5 (Jan 30)
today - W 8450, L73.6 (didn't measure HC)
SIL sent me the stats for her baby (who is off the charts- he's going to be tall) - and there were months when he did not gain weight but gained length and he's a perfectly happy almost 3 year old.
Olive he wakes around 8am. Yesterday we ended up going to MG at 11am as usual, and he hadn't had a sleep yet! He just wasn't tired. He played and had lunch there and we left around 1pm and he fell asleep in the car on the way home. So no sleep until 1pm! I took him from the car to our bed and resettled him and he slept until 3pm - 2 hours! Of course he didn't have a second sleep and by bedtime (7pm) he was exhausted and fell asleep straight away with some boobie. It was great! It convinced me to try and drop the morning sleep altogether and just do one long sleep after lunch BUT today he woke up miserable with a temp. He is already asleep and has been since about 9:30am...there goes the new routine out the window lol. He is definitely having an off day, so we'll see tomorrow.
L was almost 9kgs at the 8 month check, and he's just squeezing into the crawler nappies (going to get the toddler ones next), so I'm assuming he's over 10kgs, and he's too big for 0's now, he's in 1's. My baby is not a baby anymore He hardly eats, so I'm not sure how he's such a boof...!
typical just when you think something will work they change on you!!
hope L is ok!!
tis also a typical day for me when i needed DD2 to up from her nap around 10-10.15am as DD1 has kinder and i need her to sleep in the two hours shes there, typical shes still asleeep! will need to wake her soon
Hi girls,
Really struggling at the moment. I just am so tired. Will try and get back here later.
Have the landlords here at the moment doing work on our house from the storm damage from the weekend.
Thanks girls! I can't believe I have a 4 year old! and next week I will have a 1 year old as well! What are the odds - I work 3 days a week and both of their birthdays are on my work days Miss G is so excited about her birthday. Plus she rode a 2-wheeler pedal bike with no training wheels last night - first time she has been on one!
Malyna - Miss G was 7.6kg at 12m and is still a tall skinny kid and has no problems eating her weight in pasta . I will let you know Miss J's stats when we go in 2 weeks time for her check.
Ali - I hope you get some rest and they fix the storm damage quickly.
Holly - I hope L has a good day today. Miss J often wakes at 7am and doesn't have her nap until after 12pm. She will ususally sleep 2 horus and only have the one sleep.
Just a quick post - I have a practice cake in the oven for DD's birthday on Sunday and its almost done by the smell of it...
Happy birthday Miss G!!! 4 years old, wow! What a big girl you have there Nai. And a one year old soon too! Can you believe our girls are one on Thursday???
I know what you mean, well I half do anyway - I'm working on Thursday too. Sad but I will see her after work! And we're celebrating Sunday so that'll be enough.
Ali - rest up hun. I'm feeling the same - I think its adjusting to being back at work. Takes some time.
Kailani - I know what you mean, just when you think you've got it worked out they change something. Or they get sick. Or some more teeth come through. Or something else. Hope he has been ok today!
Malyna, how have the last couple of days been?
How's everyone else going? Its gotten quiet in here...
AFU: we've got a hectic few days coming up. My sister is being induced tomorrow so I will be at the hospital all day with her, as long as she needs me. Then somehow I have to make the real cake, well actually two of them as my dolphin tin isn't very big... then we get ready for Sunday, go to an engagement party Sat night and have the big party Sunday morning.
All that with a new bubba in the mix! Then my dad is going into hosp on Monday for a back operation so mum will be there with him all day, my BIL is scheduled to work as we all assumed my sister would have had the baby by now, so my poor sis will be home with new bubs and toddler on her own! So whenever I'm not working I'll be out there helping out.
I am exhausted just thinking about it! So please excuse my forthcoming absence!
Note for Shell - sorry I was so vague on FB about what we were doing - I've got an FB friend who would be a bit annoyed if she knew she hadn't been invited to Isabel's bday so I've had to keep it off the airwaves!
hi girls
just a quickie as its been another looong day!! LOL
DD got her pins out of her arm today- only had to wait 4 hours in outpatients to be seen!!!
boof doing well and walking heaps now- thinks he is soo cool!
kids love it when he walks over to them and throws his arms around them- wonder how long it will take for the novelity to wear off and he starts to annoy them lol
happy birthday miss G!!!
the big 4!!
HUGS TO EVERYONE !! it will pass i promise
we dont have any issues with sleep- he just doesnt sleep lol
still havent had a full night sleep and if we get 1 X 1 hour sleep per day then we are doing well!! Overnight he still wakes around 6 times!!! Usually i give up around 3ish and chuck him in with us lol
none of my kids were sleepers and i am not either so cant expect him to either!!
To tell you the truth i figure i can either fight it and insist that it is an issue and worry about it- or just accept it and go with it- and that is just what i do! So much less stress!!!
had our 12 month check up yesterday
weight :11.5kg
height : 80 cm
teeth - 8
so yep he is a big boy!!
The MCHN asked me about foods I give him and i said that we have done BLS from day one- she didnt know what it was - wtf!!! Had to explain to her what its all about- hmmm
Also asked her about playgroups in the area (see i remembered Ocean Princess!!) and she suggested i join the natural parenting group. Has anyone heard of them?? Maybe it was a polite way of telling me that i am a hippie -lol
Boof puked tonight- it was like the 4th time he has ever vomitted- got him zzz next to me watching him so hopefully it was a oncer!!
OP - wow you are busy!! fingers crossed for your sister and your dad. Dolphin cake.. wow... I've put the MIl and DH in charge of Alex's birthday cake, because I only ever make frisbee's (my cakes are duds).
Det - I have heard of natural parenting group - think htey have a website - also heard of monerossa (not the right spelling i know) playgroups... but I'm probably confused at this time of the morning.
AFU - took Alex to lollipops and put him in the ballpit. He got in one of those flintstone cars and proceeded to push himself backwards. Then his Gran had him going down a slippery dip (I was holding him). I forget what an agile, muscular little bub he is... I'm goign to take him to the YMCA gymnastics (because he loves to climb). Ohh and considering he was one of the first in this group to walk along furniture, he still isn't free walking yet! He'll zoom around with a walker but not on his own. he walked three steps the other day because he was distracted but that's it.
My fav quote at the moment is:
If you're going through hell, keep going. ~Winston Churchill
nai wow at G riding her bike!! what else did she get for her bday??
has the gastro left???
det, glad the pins are out,how is she coping with the plaster??
malyna lol at the cake frisbee!! you cant be that bad!!\
AFU M woke late today (7.45am) so only had one sleep and i can tell you she aint ready to cut down to one everyday she was in bed at 6pm! played with the girls in the yard this morning, M can climb UP the slide unassisted and the tanties OMG shes just like me
shes just gorgeous though!!! she has been waking a few hours after going to bed the past few nights and rather than feeding her like i normally would ive been resettling her, its working still up around twice overnight, we dont fight it, days are ok lasts around 3 hours before needing a sleep.
DH is on hols this next week, lots to do before the party next sunday, nothing organised except sending out the invites
