Hi girls, Sorry - I feel like I've been a bit MIA the past few days! Just been busy and getting out and about more. (Spent 4 hours straight out of the house the other day and had my hair cut on an unplanned whim while out (thought I'd just make the appt but they offered the cut/colour there and then) - breastfed at the hairdressers WHOOOHOOO!!!!). It's the first thing I've done for me since Jacob was born - felt good but guilty too IYKWIM?
I'm pretty sure I've read most or all of the posts  Lots to catch up on and not much time before dinner.
Many hugs for those of you struggling at the moment - esp you AJP and Holly!! Take care of yourselves girls. OP I hope you're feeling better soon too darl.
With regard to sleeping - I kind of feel better knowing some of your bubs are still feeding 2 hourly during the day and 4 hourly overnight. Jacob does this most days. He has some better days of course but generally he feeds 2-2.5 hourly during the day. Stays awake from 5pm-10 or 11pm and wakes again at 1:30am and then 5:30am for feeds. Occasionally he will 'sleep through' - maybe once a week or less. Yesterday he hardly slept at all between any day feeds but today he has slept for some period of time between each one. He is still crying/screaming during most feeds. I can't work out what's going on - sometimes wind but other times a mystery. Actually, it feels like he's doing it more often lately. Used to only be the afternoon/evening feeds, now it's the mornings ones as well and he's occasionally unsettled overnight. He's cried on the change table a few times now too. It's wearing me down a bit actually that he cries and screams during 80% of our feeds.
Shell - still feeding 7-8 times here too.
Gotta go, dinners done but will hopefully BBL for personals :)

Hi everyone,
We've been in hospital the past 3 days, just got discharged today. L's bronchiolitis got really bad, poor and laboured breathing, very wheezy, coughing up his feeds and really lethargic :( They used a tube to put up his nose to suction out the mucous - I've never seen him so upset and screaming the way he did, but it got out a heap of gunk. Now we're home and I'm sick  At the hossy, we were in the next room to my sister who had pneumonia! L seems to be getting better. The doctors were happy enough to discharge him and said he'd only pick up more bugs being at hospital...fair enough. Anyway, so just watch out if your little ones start coughing a lot and have a wheezy chest and congested nose! Apparently it's really common in babies and can usually be treated at home. We were in a 4 bed ward and all the babies had it!
My other sister who has been remanded is also having a tough time. The girls have ganged up on her because she's been keeping to herself and she gets terrible panic attacks so she's too scared to go to the kitchen for meals, she just stays in her room. The other day she finally came out for dinner and they pinned her down and messed her up with food or something like that and now she's scared they are going to plan to beat her up or worse :( She is only 17. I can't believe girls that age can be so feral.
I'm really upset for her and wish I was there!
Thanks for all your support :) I'm just so buggered, need sleep! Will try and catch up with you all soon. Thanks Megie for your offer, might take it up when I'm 100%. Nai, I live in McKinnon which is in the south-east, next to Bentleigh/East Brighton. Would be good to have a meet up and I'm sure there's one planned but I can't remember!
Anyway, better try and get some sleep while L is sleeping. xox
-
Holly - I'm so glad to hear Leon is on the mend - that must have been a tough time for you. I hope you are on the mend too. OP suggested a meet for this group which would be nice.
Kaz - I know what you mean - I had my hair done today too for the first time since before I had Miss J. It was soooo nice although Miss J decided to wake up and cry right in the middle of my head massage. Not so relaxing!
Jols - I hope you are able to get in to see the Dr asap and get some answers. I know iron deficiency can make you feel down and tired so hopefully it is that and can be fixed easily.
Heaven - 155g a week is good. I remember DD1 was gaining 120g a week from this stage and that was fine. BF babies especially go through peaks and troughs with their weight gain. Some weeks they will grow heaps in length but not gain much weight and that's normal too.
Ali - Grrr at the dogs (at least a lizard is easier to get rid of than a possum...) Ash sounds like she is doing really well.
OP - I hope Isabel doesn't get sick! I like your idea of a smaller meet - we should get onto that!
-
aww holly sorry to hear leon got so sick  nothing worse than seeing bubs sick. hope both your sisters come home soon too.
kaz and nai it must be the time for hair appointments!! i had my cut and coloured last week!! feels good
sara thats a great gain!! they do start to plateau out now.
millie pood twice between boob and bed tonight grrrrr 3 nappies in the space of 5 mins!
thanks everyone, told DH tonight and hes worried too but were both more concerned that its fatigue, ali i dont feel like i did last time, apart from the tearyness but taht still not as bad :dunno: hopefully its just the iron.
-
I really hope it is just the low iron for you darl, although, having said that, it's still a long recovery road you're on to get your iron levels up via diet and supplements. Did you end up with a blood transfusion at hospital? I was nervous about having one and it totally sucked at the time (took over 10 hours with lots of checks and no sleep during that period) but it was probably the best decision I made. Your teariness could just be due to tiredness. I still get teary on days when I feel exhausted and it's been one thing after another all day long. I was told in hossy that I'm high risk for PND but I prefer the tiredness explanation for my tears at this point. I can totally recommend Floradix as a liquid iron supplement that doesn't constipate!! Take care
Nai - Jacob also chose to cry when I was getting the colour washed out of my hair and there was nothing I could do!! One of the other customers actually said to me "Do you think he feels abandoned?" I was like WTF?? Just said nicely, no, I am only 3 metres away, he is just tired. He was fed and changed and I was gone from the pram for all of 5 mins while he was crying. How to make a new mum feel guilty!! He fell asleep in my arms a few minutes later.
Gotta go again girls, Jacob being weighed this morning! So windy out there I don't want to have to wake him up to go out into it :(
-
so do i kaz!! yep had the transfusion and agree was the best thing i did!!! was painfull but worth it!!
am also taking liquid iron as well as the breastfeeding multis.
let us know how jacobs weigh in goes!!
millies slept for a staggering 13hours last night :o pity i only got around 6 by the time i feel asleep and sophie waking at 5am for a whinge, and my boobs enormous and leaking! still cant believe it, she got one hand out and was sucking on that!
-
on body want to talk to me today
-
-
Kaz- :( sorry Jacob is still crying during feeds. It must be so frustrating, I remember when DD was doing that but she seems to be over it now and feeding much better thank God. Have you asked anyone about it? OMG Kaz what a rude woman at the hairdresser!!
Holly- :( sorry to hear you were in hospital!! How scary and upsetting seeing your baby sick!!
Nai- thanks for the info on weight gain!! I guess she was bound to slow down otherwise she'd be the size of a 2 yr old soon, pmsl.
AJP- glad to hear you don't think it's PND, low iron is easier to fix!! OMG 13hrs!!!!!!!! I'm soooooooooo jealous.
Ok, what is the deal!!!!!!!! Why is DD not having a longer sleep at night any more?????? I'M TIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For example, last night she went to bed at 8.30 and woke at 12, 3, 4.30, and 6.15. WTF!!!!!!! She can't be that hungry. The MCHN told me to give her colled boiled water, what the??
ETA- welcome back laura!!
-
what sara!!!!!!!!!! that is sooo old school giving cooled water at night, very old school, id say growth spurt, we having one now, feeding 2 hourly during the day.
welcome back laura
-
girls, i dont know what to do? DD has been so upset and grizzly today. She wont let me put her down at all and has just fallen asleep on my shoulder. i dont know if she has a temp or not because she is so hot from crying. would it hurt to give her some panadol. She has never been like this... :(
-
awww ali id take her temp while shes asleep, what sort of themometre have you got??
-
The themom i have is ****! its a digital one but i tested it on me and its saying i have a low temp of 35! wtf! When i did dd's under ger arm it said 35.8 i think thats wrong? She's awake again got out 3 big burps but still rubbing her face into me and gas to be upright. She has hicups as well but she isnt screaming now.
-
Ali - I think it must be the day for it.
A bit of panadol wont hurt her, also maybe some cooled boiled water??
Today i gave bella a bit of panadol and some boiled water and she settled for a bit!
-
mmmm ali you need to add .5 to underarm temps but that does sound low, is it new?? if its old could be the batteries.
-
Sure is I just gave her the lowest dose and she's justallen aslrrp on the boob. With the boiled water do i just do it from the kettle or from a saucepan? and how much would i give her once its cooled?
Do you think Bella is getting what Logan had?
-
jols- its brand new! I need to invest in oned of those fancy ear ones i think. There a bit exxy but prob morte accurate
-
Ali- im not sure, she doesnt seem to be coughing or sneezing or have a runny nose... but time will tell!!! she has been like this for a few days!!
in regards to the boiled water, i did it in a kettle and put it into a bottle and let it cool down so its warm, i dont think there is any 'set' amount you can give but just let her have a bit of a rest every 20ml or so.
-
Hi all
Look at how sexy I am!!!!! I got an avvie!!! Woot
Had a sort of mother's group here today - my mum, auntie, my sister and niece (11 months), my cousin and bub (15 weeks), my friend and bubs (8 months) and my friend and bubs (4 weeks!). Babies everywhere! Anyway it was good fun but tiring - I cooked two lasagnes (including one gluten free - challenging!) and salad and had to be hostess while looking after my own bubs. So tired!
Am also tired because I think like Millie, Isabel is going through a growth spurt - last night she slept 7pm til 10.30pm, then fed every hour and a half til 6.15am.
YES - every HOUR and a HALF. I couldn't believe it. Tried other settling but she just wanted to feed. And she fed every time, really well, not snacking. Today she has been 2 hourly and has been really clingly and grizzly.
I've defrosted a bottle of EBM and DH is on duty - I'm going to bed as soon as I can and he is going to deal with her until about 3am and then I'll have to get up to pump anyway. Hoping to get some good sleep.
Ali - hope little Ash has settled and isn't getting sick, poor thing! How did you go with the water?
SJ - the cold water thing isn't so strange - I read somewhere that it could be there "hunger clock" that is waking them up, that they aren't actually hungry but they think they are. So you give them cold boiled water and after a few nights their "tummy clock" will reset and they shouldn't wake... that's the theory anyway :D
Kaz, little master J doesn't sound too happy during feeds, you poor thing. My friend with the 4 week old (who is also a Jacob actually!) is struggling with feeds too. I just want to help but don't really know how...
Holly you poor thing! You are having such a rough time. I really hope you are feeling better soon
Hi to everyone else!!!!
-
:o op every 90 mins is tough!! sounds like you had a great day today!!!
loving the 'new' you as well!!
ali how is ashlyn now??
me well im onto my second glass of wine and seriously considering a third!! DH things he may g et lucky tonight....i doubt it
-
OP - i love the avvy!! How are you feeling (apart from tires) No wonder you are sick with the lac of sleep not helping. WHat a day with all those babies..sounds lovely though.
Jols- I wish I had a bottle of wine right now. Well DD is sleeping in her bouncer. I think the panadol worked. Didnt try the water but have bilied some up and put it in a bottle to cool and may use later.
OP- Interesting about the body clock thing with the water...thanks for that OP.
Holly- hope L is getting better. I cant believe how mean those girls are being to your sis in hossy. Can she talk to the nurses. That is seriously ****ed up!
Heaven- hope you get better sleep tonight.
Kaz- I forgot to tell you I bf in public when I was away. We were at a restaurant Friday night at a hotel resort and DD needed to be fed. I left the restaurant but sat in the lobby and fed A on one of the nice lounges. YAY!
-
Whats going on with all these bubs, as I said yesterday Em been a bit funny but today she actually slept well which is very odd for her. I nearly died of shock when she slept this arvo for just over 1.5hrs, considering she doesn't do more than 40mins usually, she been alot sleepier today, woke 3hrly last night but managed to stretch her to 4hr between feeds.
Ali- I hope she starts feeling better and settles, its hard taking there temp, much easier once you can start using the ear ones. I forget what age tho you can use them, 3 months?
OP- :o No wonder you're tired, no sleep plus all that cooking and entertaining! Think I would've ordered in!
SJ- Do you try settle her some other way before feeding? I hope she has a better night tonight.
AJP- 13 hours??!!! What are you doing to achieve that?! I think you have the best night sleeper in here.
Kaz- I hope you sort out the feeding. Could he be tired when he is feeding cause I notice that when Em is about due for a sleep and a feed she is really fussy and screamy on the boob and I out her down for a sleep and then try again when she wakes.
-
ali and shell i have an infa red themometre cos i was sick of sophie squirming when i took her temp.
shell no idea why she slept so long, i think sucking on her fist/fingers helped!
had 3 glasses of wine
-
OP - i would have ordered takeaway.. your way more organised than I could ever dream of!
AJP - way to go with the wine.. I just have to walk past a bottle shop and I'm curled up on the floor professing how I love everyone and I'm asleep within about 2 minutes (I'm a very cheap drunk).
Kaz - way to go with the hairdresser. I admire you.. far out.. I haven't been because I'm not that organised.
sigh!! I've been reading about the 4hr sleeps over night... I dream of these.. the only way i can get DS to do this is if we co sleep - otherwise we are awake 3hrs, then 2x2x2 until 6.30 then we are awake and I'm lucky to get a nap of out of him, where he isn't in my arms.. **I'm jealous**
Coslept with DS last night and he chased me across the bed, to get to the boobies. I woke pinned against the wall with him right up against me, sucking away..
I so want to see the new star trek movie but all the mums and bubs sessions are for chick flicks.. argh!!
-
Hi girls! Just dropping in quickly to say I won't be around as have DP's 40th party today so will be preparing for that! Why is it when you have a big day that your kids wake you up at 6am? DD1 came in to say she needed to go to the toilet which normally would be great as her nappy was dry - but why today????
-
its always the way isnt it nai!!! if it makes you feel better sophie was up at 5.30am wanting a tissue!
have a great night tonight!!!
millie is loving sucking her hand because she slept 13 hrs again! its all in the hand!
mental note to self. GO TO BED EARLIER!!
-
All in the hand hey, will have to teach Emily that one, she sucks on her hand then her fingers then makes herself gag and is not happy! I dream of 13hrs, lol.
Nai- Enjoy the 40th. Hope it turns out well.
Tarkine- I have images of this little baby chasing you across the bed, thats hilarious, he is such a booby monster!
My sister and nephew coming over today I wish they'd hurry cause I've been asked million times this morning where James is!
Ash been naughty at bedtime still, not going down, been confiscating her bedtime Dora figurines. Also have art type stuff as rewards to do next day if she is good, so far not come out of the bag!
-
Nai - all the best with the party - I think its murphy's law about the waking early.
AJP - I read that girls were better sleepers than boys.
:hello: everyone else.
-
Its the opposite in my mums group I started with Ash, all the boys slept thru early sleep so well, still have 3hr arvo naps and the girls not as good.
-
mmmm my group  girls better at night earlier boys better at day sleeps i.e two still having day sleeps now at 2.5
-
OP - I hope those 90 min feeds were a once off! Well done on entertaining all those mums and bubs!!
Ali - for bf'ing in public darl!! That's awesome. How was Ash today? I hope she was more settled for you.
AJP - :o at 13 hours! Did you keep checking to see she was breathing? lol! on the wine - you deserve it!
Tarkine - Sorry darl but I had to  at the image of your 3 month old bailing you up against the wall to feed!
Nai - Hope you're having a great time tonight.
Shell - Sorry to hear that Ash is still being naughty. You sound like you're having a rough trot between the two girls and their sleep issues. How is your DP and FIL going?
Laura - How was your BB break?
Holly - Hope you've managed to get some sleep in the last couple of days. I hope your sister is doing ok. Prison can be tough - can she sign onto protection at all?
Heaven - Not much sleep in your house either lately! Hope it improves soon.
AFM - Jacob now weighs 5kg exactly :hooray: He'd put on 390g in 15 days which is fantastic because I've hardly been topping him up with EBM at all. Since the weigh in yesterday he has been feeding a bit better too and sleeping well (day and night!!). For example, he's asleep now, has been for the past 1.5 hours :o and he slept over an hour between the feed before that too! He never sleeps like this in the evenings. Murphy's Law though, I'm actually waiting for him to wake up so we can give him a bath, feed and go to bed myself! I put him down at 7:30pm expecting to get 20 mins to eat dinner in but he's stayed down. Bet he's up all night now
Quick question for those of you in cloth - what type of covers and/or pockets are less prone to leaks? For the past two days almost every nappy I've put on Jacob he's wet or poo'd through (even the Maz covers have leaked although less than others). I'm sick of changing his clothes at every nappy change!! Some have been only on him for a little over an hour too :(
-
kaz awesome weight gain!!!!! millie weighed 5.2kg at 8 weeks so your doing an ace job!!!
we have the breathing monitor so i didnt need to worry about her sleeping so long!
how did jacob sleep last night??
as for covers i love gussetted ones, motherease rikki or imse vimse ones, both never leak!
im not really using pockets or aios yet, i have 3 bubblebubs and the rest are fitteds and covers
oh and the wine was great!
-
Hi ladies
im going to be MIA again for a bit
DF and i have split and now we have to get the house sorted out... yay
-
Laura- I've posted in your other thread, hope now you have the space you can work out what you want that will make you happy.
Kaz- Yay on that weight gain! I find too when Em sleeps better she feeds better. Df and FIL much the same, they gave FIL a month to live about a month ago and moved him into pall care but they've done such good job looking after him there he is doing ok, hasn't got any worse.
Holly- How are you doing? Does your sister have a court date or anything coming up soon? So much going on for you at the moment. How is L doing? Don't forget if you want to catch up anytime for coffee/ chat I'm just in Bentleigh.
Not much here, tired, Df not helping out enough, he says he never gets a break but gets a night out with the boys every week where I struggle to find 5 mins just to have bloody shower.
-
laura  obviously its the right move for you guys  hope things work out smoothly.
shell glad FIL is stable at the moment  hope DF pulls up the knee highs ;)
few questions:
how long are your bubs staying up for between sleeps??? were still bearly making 60 mins sometimes 75 mins.
anyone else thing bubs is having a growth spurt? millie has been feeding 2 hoursly the past few days and both sides :o
she just did her once a day poo and :o wow is all i can say talk a bout lava flow
-
Hi Everyone - I am feeling a bit tired but the party was great! DP is VERY hungover  I am getting DD1's virus so I have a sore throat :( The girls were so well behaved though. DD1 went home with my mum to Ballarat and is staying until tomorrow. Miss J only woke at 5am for a quick feed and then back to sleep until 8.30am - yay!
Jols - wow with the 13 hours!! Miss J stays awake about 75mins before needing a sleep except for at the end of the day when she can go about 2 hours. Last night she stayed awake from5pm - 9.30pm without grizzling. She is feeding lots - when she wakes and before she sleeps snd she is breaking through her nappies with her poos some days!
Laura - I hope everything is ok and you can get everything sorted without too much angst.
Shell - glad FIL is doing ok. DF needs to pull his socks up - one night a week out is a LOT! DP gets about one a month, one a fortnight at the most!
OP - hoe are the feeds going? I hope not as frequent!
Trakine - LOL at your booby monster chasing you across the bed
Kaz - Yay on the weight gain! At 8 weeks Miss J was 4.8kg so he is doing well!! I use Fuzzibunz pocket nappies which I used for DD1 so they have done both girls. They don't leak unless it is a real explosive poo but then I haven't found anything that contains them! I'm not sure if you can get them in Australia anymore though - they used to be distributed through Honeychild.
-
Nai- Glad the party went well, I saw some pics on FB, looked like everyone had good time.
AJP- Here we get 75-90mins between sleeps usually, but if she has only had a really short sleep she doesn't last long til next.
And yes on the growth spurt I was so thinking that today as Em been unsettled, grizzly, gulping down the first side in like 3 mins then screaming, give her the 2nd and sge draining that too!
-
Laura- Big  hin. PM me if you need anything. I hope this is what he needs to waake up to himself and realise what an amazing fiance and mother you are. Will post in your other thread as well but lots of  to you.
Kaz- That is a fab weight gain!! Yay for Master J!!
Shell- to you hun. It is hard when they dont appreciate it.
Nai- Get better soon hun. Glad you and DP had a great party last night. Always good to let the hair down!
AJP- How you feeling? Geting anymore sleep? In regards to ash's awake time, it varies heaps. Sometimes can be 2 hours, sometimes just enouhg for a feed and a nappy change. I hate to say it (as I prob sound like a bad mum) but because I dont really put her down in her cot to sleep, she just sleeps where ever and whenever. I really do need to sort that out soon but going to wait a couple more weeks.
Tarkine- good to hear from you
AFM- DP had Ashlyn basically all day today and he realised its hard to even go to the toilet but I also think he appreciated his time with her as he has said a couple of times today that he really liked spending the time with her. Last night was a bit of a shocker for Ash, She does the first sleep really well then it is like every 2 hours until the rest of the morning. Hoping tonight is better. I cant complain though as she really is a good bub.
-
ali dont be silly your not a bad mum!!!
only reason millie sleeps in bed is because big sis will torment her!
we had an eye gouging incident yesterday
-
Oh sisters!!! LOL! Reminds me of my sisters! We did some mean things to each other! LOL! Eye gouging is probably part of the bonding process. :o
Ashlyn slept in her cot the other night for 2 hours!! I couldnt believe it. I put her in there when she was asleep though as DP and I wanted the bed to ourselves! ;) It is going to be hard for me to get her to sleep in her cot though. (this from the mum who said "my dauighter will sleep in her cot from the day we get home".. and who now co-sleeps with her daughter!
