Mrzbaby - Jayde does this - well she did really bad almost after every feed, now its just on occasion. I used the water trick and it was wonderful. They have herbal drops at the chemist as well - and I only use these at night if she is really bad- they work quite well and have no nasty things in them just herbal things.

Hugs your way Smithy - I had one of those moments the other day and I only have one demanding my attention. I was having a moment as DH is at work all day and only gets Sundays off, I was missing him - needing his help and just got upset that Jayde was in pain and I couldnt do anything about it...what is the difference with the thickened formula? (does this help with wind)

Phyn- Might have to keep looking on ebay for sling for water as we live near the water and I intend on going swimming with her soon (in the heated pool)

Kaz - The noises are the cutest- DH is like she is talking to me, well she is attempting to...she did this camando thing on the mat the other day pulling herself up to the top with her legs and hands

I am worried her belly button is infected. It all fell off, but left a little piece. I thought it would also fall off but it hasn't I kept it clean with saltwater and its red now - I am thinking a trip to the docs to check it...

Colestar - it's only a new season product, and you prolly won't find it on ebay sorry! google babes in arms or go to baby bunting or babyco etc, they sell for about $70. Then just get a cheap everyday one from ebay to save your swimming one for swimming

Smithy - cry it out it's good to get it out hun! Your tears are for a worthy cause, you're a mum of 5!!!

Elly met her playgroup yesterday! And now my sis in law Jess is thinking about moving up here too, fingers crossed she does! It'd be awesome for Elly & Sophie to grow up together, and for me to have Jess close by!

Got out of fighting with Centrelink's website, they've agreed to give me a worker to go through the family tax appication tomorrow after my parenting payment appt. Haha! Serves them right for trying to cut down on paying their employees to work, and making people use a stupid internet program that doesn't even work properly! Fiona 1, Government NIL

Hope you are all settleing in well with your new arrivals.

My three weeks have been like a rollercoster. DS birth was pretty good, then a load of BF issues which have all worked out (touch wood)

Lincoln is now suffering (big time) from tummy pains and I'm so sleep deprived.

It's so hard to enjoy all the little moments when you're lucky to get 10-20mins sleep at a time.

Last night I gave in and DH and I took it in turns holding him in bed, so we slept and so did he.

Since Sunday he's not slept anywere but in a sling on DH or I for longer than an hour.

hey sweety,hope you dont mind me passing on your wonderful tip on about the water ;) but its helping me so thought now i might be able to help someone too lol...
as for the formula the only difference is thats its just that thicker and i thought it might fill her up a bit more as im feeding her every 2 -3 hrs and getting no break :doh: but no as for the wind its not helping me ,dh even went to the chemist today and got me some stuff called infacol for the wind so hopeing this might help ive only given it to her once today so ill let you know how i go ;)

Just thought I would do a post in between feeds, omg Chloe is going at it like she has been starved since birth, so I am guessing she has started her first growth spurt. Last night she fed at 6.30, 8.30, 10.30, then slept till 4.30 (thankgod), then fed at 8.30, 11.30, and 2.30 and has been attacking both boobs, by 10.30 last night they were drained. Might end up with another evening cluster feeder at this rate.

Had a loverly day out shopping with her, I really need to steer clear of pumpkin patch though, got a bargain long black skirt for $5 to. A loverly old man said hello to me while I was having a coffee and made my day by saying how nice it was to see a young lady breastfeeding and not worrying about doing it in public.

Sorka/mrzbaby - for wind you can try gripe water or infacol, I prefer infacol, it helps the little bubbles of air join together to make bigger bubbles, which are easier to bring up or out, whichever way it chooses to go, lol. If bottlefeeding you can try sitting bubs upright on your lap and holding behind the head/neck and feeding this way, being upright can help it to come up during the feed, its also good for reflux babies. Warm baths can help, doing the bicycle technique with their legs.

Colestar/smithy - thickened formula is generally given to reflux babies because it is harder to bring up, just be careful of constipation as thickened can sometimes cause it.

phynna - I cannot agree with you more about centrelink, I swear the staff make it their ultimate goal to **** me off. I have been stuffing around with them the last two weeks about our rent assistance. First they cancel it with no warning, I call and am told they need a new lease, which they already have and it has not changed, but they told me I had to take it in anyway, which I did the same day as Chloe's registration paperwork. Now she has been added properly to my ftb but the rent assistance is still not done, so I call them up and am told that I didnt complete a rent certificate form so it wasnt done. The woman in the office never mentioned this and happily took my paperwork, now I have to make another trip in there with it again, grrrrrrrr. I have trouble with their self service reporting line (i have to report income fortnightly), I have been it for a year and it has never worked, my passwords never work, the fix them and the next week they dont work again, and every week when I talk to an operator they tell me how I should be using the self service line, now they have this voice verification system, so I set that up, and well what do you know, two weeks in a row and it hasnt worked either. And thats my rant about centrelink ****ing me off this week.

Well got to go pick up DD1 from daycare, probably gonna take 15 minutes to convince her to leave like usual. I hope everyone is sleeping and feeling well.

and just wanted to say thank you for the tip on the formul hun ill keep an eye on things thats for sure ,im still giving her water so hopefully that might help.

Going okay here! Finally have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon for a consult to find out if anything needs to be done about Vaedas toes - the appointment is in JUNE. Can't believe we have to wait that long just for a consult!

Vaeda has gained 550g in the last 9 days! She has been feeding almost constantly during the day so it's just as well! Feeds every 3 hours during the night, which isn't too bad except that each feed is taking an hour. She is sleeping in her own room now so I can't hear all her little moans and groans, DH has the baby monitor next to him, he can sleep through the little noises, and he wakes me up if she wakes him, it's working really well for us.

On some news - I took Jayde to doctor to have a look at her belly button and to see if it was infected (it is but cream can fix) and I had just fed her. As I have never had a baby before I just assumed what she did after she fed was normal - its not

Apparently my little girl has reflux - which explains SO much to me now (once the doc told me about it) Docs concern is that she may have a hereditary condition (her dad had it as a bub, and her cousions both have it on dads side) where her stomach doesnt digest properly (resulting in reflux) HOPEFULLY its just common reflux and nothing more...It was just lucky that I fed her to calm her before I went into the docs...We went and got the thickend formula and so far so good...

We are buying special teets today and fingers crossed :pray: they help the poor thing. I go back to docs on monday so will know more then.
Its so bad when they cry in pain you cant do anything for them and you get upset (and they can feel it) thankfully DH has been wonderful he tries and comforts her when I cant, but hopefully this will all change. I may have to get some Infacol (the pharmacist didnt wanna give it to me cause they need to be 4 weeks and she is 4 weeks tomorrow)

I had a pretty good night last night she was quite good - hopefully it lasts

Smithy - she has done the same thing again, feeding like a trooper, good thing her feeds only take 20 minutes, but bf is great, I roll over pick her up out of the portacot, lay back down, put her on and go back to sleep (well dozing) until she is done, pick her up and put her back.

If bubs gets stools that are edging on to hard from being on the thickened, coloxyl drops are safe to give them I think from 4 weeks as well, its better to stop constipation fast before they do any damage. My poor niece suffered from it bad.

Colestar - sorry to hear about the reflux, at least you have a dr that has diagnosed it quickly, sometimes it takes much longer with ftm's. Both my nieces were severe silent reflux babies, and it kinda runs in our family, so far I have been lucky with Amelia not having it and Chloe not so far, fingers crossed. If you find the formula isnt helping dont hesitate to ask the dr to put her on some medication like zantac, its perfectly safe but for some reason some dr's can be hesitant but it makes a huge difference to bubs, the reflux can damage the valve at the top of the stomach if it is to severe and goes on to long. I understand how they feel as I suffered from bad reflux for years as an adult and I damaged mine.

Reflux babies can usually feed more often and smaller amounts, knowing that to much can upset them more, they can be catnappers to. Try feeding her in an upright position and leaving her upright for up to an hour after feeds (bit harder at night), so swings are good, you can also put some phone books under the legs of one end of the cot to raise it slightly. When burping try not to compress/bend the stomach over or lean her forward, try keeping her back straight and slightly lent backwards. Ummmm, thinking, oh yeah, change her bottom before a feed but if you cant roll her onto her side to put the nappy underneath instead of lifting her bottom and legs into the air (cause it is tipping her stomach up). I hope she gets better on the new formula, fingers crossed no stomach problems though.

We are going to try Chloe on a bottle this afternoon to see if she will take it, we had such problems putting Amelia on one at 3 months so I could go back to uni, so I wanted to introduce the random bottle earlier this time to see if it helps cause I aint going back until she is 6 months this time. I really dont like mixing bf and bottles cause it did cause a bf strike at 6 months with Amelia where she ignored boob and cried until presented a bottle which she happily took and rolled around drinkin, soooo frustrating but I dont really have a choice if I want to go back to uni.

Well off to a bbq with friends, should be fun, pity I still cant have a drink though.

Studymum - you sound like such an experienced mum, you have an answer for everything (in a good way), nice to have you here :)

Have had a rough day, V fed almost constantly from 11am til 10pm with the only gaps being no more than 20 minutes, except when I initiated them, trying to settle her in other ways and give my boobs a rest so they could fill up a bit. She must have been so tired! She finally crashed at 10pm and slept for 6 hours! I guess since she turned a month old she decided to celebrate with some binge drinking and general rowdiness. Hope she doesn't make a habit out of it.

We intend to feed her EBM soon, I am going back to work part time at the end of march and also just want to have the option just in case I'm not there. Would only be giving her a bottle once a day. DH thinks this will help when we are doing marathon feeds llike yesterday, I guess it would give my boobs a break and would be good to see how much is eating and how much is comfort. Fingers crossed it all works out! I am very hesitant to start, I'm terrified she'll get nipple confusion or something.

Smithy - Glad that little Charlie is sleeping. The water/sugar trick worked so well for me when Munchkin was on the thickened formula. :hug: I only have two little girls and sometimes I find myself just wanting to cry from tiredness. Nao seems to love waking at 11pm and playing til about 2-3am. And then I wake up for 1-2 feeds and then Munchkin's awake for the day at about 10ish. And I swear I don't even remember what sleep is! I'm just glad Munchkin loves to sleep in!

Studymum - Yes, I too must steer clear of Pumpkin Patch. So many adorable things in there! DH always makes :o <- that face when I go near the store. How did introducing a bottle go?

Vintrar - Good luck on the toe. Both my girls little toe tucks under the one next to it, obviously not as severe as little Vaeda's. Apparently it runs in my husbands family, his does it and so does all his relatives lol. Also - where did you get the name Arkady from? I love it and read it in a book recently, was wondering if you'd read the same book. :)

Colestar - I'm sorry to hear about Jayde having reflux. It's a terrible thing to go through, Munchkin suffered it when she was the same age. I'll never forget it. We used the Karicare thickened formula, was a wonderful thing. Hopefully it sorts itself out. :hug: The doctor also told us to use some Mylanta as well to help, might be worth asking the doctor about when you see them next?

As for us, little Nao is growing quite well and we seem to have sorted out all feeding issues. However she's starting to show the same signs of reflux that Munchkin showed. :crying: I'm hoping its just her dealing with wind differently or something else. We've had a cold all last week so I'm hoping even that! Honestly I have no idea of how to deal with reflux with a breastfed baby. :(

Munchkin seems to be coping well with her new sister, she always says something to me when she can hear Nao crying. Always giving her kisses. So cute.

I must admit, last week with a sick toddler and me being sick was definitely a hard week. Looking better now though - but still so tired!

:hello: to everyone I have missed :)

Hey all ... sorry for being awol. So much going on and just wanted to get all my health stuff sorted before I posted. Last night I actually read everything that has been going on, so I am up to date! I won't do pm's though, as I have 3 threads to post on and it would take me forever. But just know I am up to date again and hopefully will be on here more regularly now!

As for my health woes, everything seems to be ok. I am not sure if I mentioned I found a lump on my shoulder that is about 3cms? Well it turns out it is a lypoma (fatty lump) and if it continues to grow I will need to get it removed. Along with that I had the red lower belly, hot, itchy ... a doctor sent me for an ultrasound because she said my uterus felt really enlarged. The girls that did the ultrasound completely freaked me out by telling me I had leftovers in my uterus. So I spent the weekend dreading my results, thinking I would need to go back to the doctors for a clean out. I went to see her yesterday and got the all clear, so I have not idea what the radiographer was on about? However if I do continue to lose clots I will need to go see a gynie, as apparently an ultrasound will not always pick up if there is an issue going on in your uterus. Confused? Me too! I do feel heaps better though. Which is good news! The other issue I had was burning sensations in my lower leg, apparently it is nerve damage which I believe, as I still have two quite numb toes on the same foot! So health wise that is about it, on the mend, feeling better and tests have given me the all clear.

As for Luka, he is beautiful and doing well. He has had a really mucusy nose, but he is getting better and is eating normally again. He is so alert and watches his sisters and looks for them as soon as he hears their voices. I am enjoying my little baby time, but he seems so huge already and it has me sad already that my little baby is growing fast! The girls have adjusted so well to him and are very cute with him. Very good big sisters who kiss him and continuously tell him he is gorgeous!

Looking forward to catching up more often now I am back into the swing of things!

TAM AND EMMA thanks so much girls for thinking of me ,all is going ok here i guess weve just had some trouble with pooing :rolleyes: but i think maybe im sorting it out ..well i sure hope so as my bubba screamed the house down the other night as she couldnt do a pooy so then that made me all upset as well doh.

Hi everyone,

As we all get on past the one month mark sounds like most of us are starting to get on top of things... I wonder if I'm the only first time Mum still battling to get out of the house. (I bet not!) Still, everything feels much more in control than the first few days at home with V, just multiple meltdowns trying to run errands in yesterday's heat in Sydney. In better news, he's starting to smile a little bit at us now; he still doesn't seem totally sure what he's doing but it's very different from those very sleepy newborn milk grins.

I'm both looking forward to seeing him change over the next few months and regretting losing the way things are now!
