Meercat, I'm finding the same thing with my DP, with his first child she was bottle fed so he helped with feeding her (when his ex felt like actually including him) but because I'm breast feeding and haven't started expressing yet he feels he's not doing much, even after I explained to him that just settling him is a massive help. Having said that Harrison had a horror night last night and the only way we got him to sleep was for DP to take him downstairs and camp on the couch with him.

Beata, my visitors never brought me anything either, but I also put a ban on visitors for the time being. Only a few people have been over aside from family, but I'm kinda happy about that as its given us time to get to know each other and settle in a bit.

B, yay for a better night and hope your DP gets better.

Krisvee, fingers crossed when your DH goes back to work that things stay smooth for you.

AFM I bought some infants friend today...what a difference already! maybe just a coincidence so I'm not totally convinced yet but gave Harrison 5 drops before his feed around lunch time and he's been a total angel ever since, slept for 4 hours then woke, fed and had contented cuddles for an hour or so then back off to sleep for another 4 hours...he woke again about 9:30, fed and is now just chillin out in his bassinette. this stuff works, the infacol didn't really do much for him.

On and he's 2 weeks old today!! the time is flying!

    Hi!

Just a quick post from me...am sooo tired and waiting for Jayden to wake up for his feed which he normally would have done...now I'm kicking myself for not going to bed earlier and getting a couple of hours sleep - always the way! LOL!

b - wow on having the sleep sorted so early! I must say, my boys are quite good sleepers now so cant' complain too much...lol...
Oh no at your dh being sick - hope he's on the mend - that's the last thing you need to be worried about at the moment...big hugs!

Meercat - Sorry to hear Tiah has thrush - hope it clears up soon! Hope your df helps out now that you've asked - I definitely find it better if dh helps with bubs so I get a break - definitely helps my sanity...I enjoy getting the house in order or cooking dinner and just being able to do what I need to do and having a break from the baby...I must say he's pretty good at it though but so he should be by no.4! LOL!
LOL on visitors as well...I don't usually have anyone bring food either but if they don't then I don't offer anything other than a drink - hehe...I must say though we haven't been bothered by that many people - again, maybe being baby no.4 they're not that interested - LOL!

Beata - I think I just get used to the sleep deprivation - LOL! The boys are pretty good and of course with dh at home it helps a lot...I'm expecting my baby blues next week when i'm on my own...lol...

    K - chat later!

Hi im finally joining the group, i had a little boy Brock Edward on the 23/03/2010 weighing 3160kgs was born by repeat c section.

Brock is thriving well he is now just over two weeks old, i decided to formula feed after having trouble b/f brock just wasnt latching on or if he did he would only liked it during the night time and everytime i tryed during the day he would just fall a sleep on me and wouldnt eat, i tryed everything to wake him up to try to feed and he just wouldnt take it. I tryed to get the nurses to help because i felt he wasnt getting enough and was sleeping to much and was starting to worry me, i founded the nurse no help she just told me to keep trying. So keep trying and did so once i went home and still found the same thing he would only take it at night but nothing during the day, so i tryed him on a bit of formula and he toke to it straight away, and what a difference it made he was more alert and opening his eyes more and just changed is personality completily. I still wonting to get some breastmilk into him so i continued to express and gave him what i had for feeds and topped up with formula but i was finding when i gave him the EBM he keeped vomiting and spitting it out as where when i would feed him the formula he wouldnt vomit at all so i decided just to stick with formula because he seemed to like it better. I just found breastfeeding wasnt for me both of my boys never toke to it and i really didnt like expressing, in the ended i didnt feel comfortable at all. Brock is feeding well on Karicare which is what DS1 was on when he was baby, he started on 60mls every 2-3hrs but is now drinking anywhere to 80-100mls every 3-4hours.

Brock is a very calm baby, doesnt cry at lot at all and settles himself, however he is a bit of a night owl he sleep all day and from 9-10pm to 1-2am he is awake, i found at first i was having to wake him for every feed but now he is waking himself for feeds except for some during the day when he is sleeping.

I have another son tyler who is almost two and he did not like brock at all when he was born, was not sure of him but now he is getting use to him being around and is kissing him goodnight when he goes bed now which is very cute, i think he realised he is here to stay now.

Brock did have thrush but is under control and also he is a poo machine. I am going through so many nappies and most are poo's. which i know is better out then in. congradulations to everyone on there babies and am glad to continue on with most of you from the belly buddies group. I have talked to much and am going to try and sleep before the next feed.

    Re: Babies born~March 16th-31st 2010 #1

We don't get many visitors. DH went back to work 2 weeks after we bought Hamish home so I have been on my own since then during the day. No one has offered to come around and watch Hamish while I have a shower or run some errands. I have to make sure he is asleep before I can shower. I am pretty lonely when DH is at work. I don't hear from my friends and those who said they would visit or call never do. My brother and his gf haven't even met Hamish yet and he is now 8 weeks old. At least I made the effort to go and see them when their baby was born. I didn't even hear from them the entire time I was in hospital. In fact if I had of stayed in longer and Hamish was born a couple of weeks later I still wouldn't have heard or seen them.

Sorry that's my rant over with

    Hi Ladies

Hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I'm struggling with my other "Buddies" group as they all seem to know each other. I figure that I "know" you all here and it's great to hear how you are all getting on.

Teresa - I don't have any family here at all and only very few friends. All my family is back in Scotland. I have no-one to help me at all. I haven't even spoken to my mum (verbally) since I told her I was pregnant, although she emails every day, but the emails always make me feel guilty, like I've taken her grandson away from her.

Shaza, sounds like you are doing well, great to hear!

Belinda - wow - 980 ml in one day - great effort!

Krisvee - hope Jayden has woken and you get some sleep.

Missawah - we're also using Infant's Friend. Using it every feed ad it seems to be helping us no end! Gotta love the "Magic Orange Medicine"!

Meercat -hope Tiah's thrush clears up soon!

Beata - here's hoping you have a better day today.

Sorry to anyone I have missed -that's as far back as I got with the posts.

AFM, Fraser is doing really well. We're still feeding every 3 hours, bang on to the minute! I am starting to wish he would go a little longer between feeds but I can't complain. I'm still expressing what I can (About 30 ml for each feed) then giving formula for the rest, which seems to be working. I was saving the EBM and giving one big feed of it but i think it was upsettng his little tummy and this seems to be working better again, even though it means double washing up. Never mind! He's still farting away all day but we're getting very little in the poo-ey nappy department, but plenty of wet.

I'm going to try and start gettig Fraser into some sort of routine, to see if that can lengthen some of his night feeds. He's awake at the moment so about to feed then keep him awake for as long as I can. Going to try and let him do his own thing through the day, then hopefully about 4-5 pm (whatever time the feed is due), keep him upright in his rocker but let him sleep if he wishes, then before next feed is due, give him his bath. Not sure it will work, but read it on a website and fingers crossed! I was thinking that bigger feeds through the night might make his tummy heavy and therefore want to sleep more, but he doesn't want to take any more than his 100 ml and even then, most of the time (apart from the crazy wide-awake in middle of night episodes) he is falling asleep while feeding and I can hardly get him to finish!

Missawah, I'm glad Infants Friend is working for you. I've tried it too, but infacol seems to be woring much better for my wee man.

Kisvee, I got pretty depressed when DF went to work He was in hospital with me for 2 days (pointless being there the whole 5 days) and then when we came home on the the Sunday, I only had him on the Monday & Tuesday. I asked him to take a couple of weeks off, but his work is winding down for a partial close down in May (he is responsible for all the people who will be stood down in the production side of things) and he is extremely busy ATM. I really needed him with me in the first week or so, I felt so helpless and lonely when he went back. Thank goodness for mum being 5 minutes away!

b, I changed Cam's feeds to the 'Gold' version of the S26 formula. I figure that the infacol is now effectively removing the wind, and that's what Karicare Gold was giving him. So fingers crossed that with infacol at hand, the S26 Gold formula will make him sleep 4 hours at a time. Last night I gave him a bath at 8.30 pm, he ate at 9 pm, and then I woke him up at 11 pm for a feed thinking he'll go through to at least 2 am (he only had 30 ml of formula as I couldn't wake him up). WRONG!!!! The little munchkin woke up at 12.30 (so right on cue after his 9 pm feed - he feeds every 3 to 3.5 hours now). Then he woke at 4 am, not bad, and then at 7.30 am. The thing is, I stayed up till 11 to give him the top up, so getting up at 12.30 and 4 am was two night feeds, I prefer one!

Shaza, welcome to our group!! I'm glad your little Brock is a good baby. I get many more wet nappies than the pooey ones....one every two days I think. As for going to formula, I was exactly the same hun. Cam never took to b/f that much, plus I didn't have that much milk, when I gave him formula he is so much happier now.

Teresa, I am so sorry you don't have anyone to help you with Hamish. I don't have a fantastic relationship with my mum, but she is so handy right now to give me a hand. Big hugs hun.

Miamunchkin, hello hun!!!!!!!! So glad you're joining us here. I feel like I am at home in this thread! You're a star for still expressing and giving Fraser a wee bit of b/m, good on you hun, I wish I had the milk/energy/patience!

Hi to everyone else! Off to catch the midday movie, Cam had a feed at 10.15 this morning and still hasn't gone to sleep

Hi Mel, Hi Miamunchkin! Yay, I love our ladies... we all talk a lot so it is nice ot log in and see how everyone is going

Teresa - That sucks about your brother. My DP has another week off work... I am dreading when he goes back.... we are already noticing visitors are coming less often... and no one seems to actually offer the help I NEED....

MiaMunchkin - We are trying for a rough routine as well, but it is so hard to keep Tiah awake during the day! I managed half an hour just before and now she is so deeply asleep I changed her outfit and her nappy and she would not wake up

B - Hope your DP is feeling better!

Well, we got a 5 hour block of sleep last night.... then 4 hours! Heres hoping this becomes the norm, though she has slept all day so I am not to hopefull.

Glad to see more familiar faces in here

Harrison had a photo shoot today and was so well behaved...while he was asleep, once he woke up though it was a different story. We did however get the feet photo which is what I've been desperately chasing. Needless to say he looks super cute in the photos we got

I've decided to start expressing so DP can help with feeding, question for those of you who are also expressing...when do you do it?? I'm told an hour after he's fed?? I'm a little bit scared to do it but I know its going to help my sanity. Any tips would be great

Hope everyone is doing great, by the sounds of it routines are starting to happen and that's great!

Missawah - I won't be much help as I'm not BFing, expressing only. All I can say is to try and power pump - that's doing one side for a few mins, then the other, then back to the first and so on. It gives you time to have a let-down and it's amazing that even when you think your breast is empty, you can still get more out if it's left a few mins. Glad the photo shoot went well and look forward to seeing the pics.

Mel - great to see you in here too!

Meercat - good luck with the routine! I look forward to hearing how you get on!

    Hi to everyone else!

Missawah - I express from one boob in the morning when it is fullest (I get about 140mls then) and then I express again from one boob in the evening when DP is giving her a bottle of EBM. (Again I get about 140mls)

I was told by the midwife to remember to express at the time of the missed feed (when DP is feeding her) otherwise your body thinks you no longer need that feed and then makes less milk.

Also, I have a warm bath just before I express at night... the milk literally pours out of my boob once the heat sets in!

    Hi!

We had a big shopping trip out today and the boys did so well! Jayden slept in the baby sling the whole time which was handy!!
He had a pretty unsettled night last night so luckily dh gave me a bit of a sleep in. MCHN came and visited this morning and he's weighting 3.75 kg now so has regained his birth weight plus a little more which is great!

b - Oh no - your poor dh - kidney infections are horrible - I had one when I was 17 and had to go to hosp and have antibiotics with a drip...hope he's better soon!

Shaza12345 - Congratulations on your little man! Glad to hear he's doing well!!

Teresa - Big hugs to you...it can be certainly be a lonely time when your have bubs...I never saw many people either but I made friends with my mothers group and also have made some of my closest friend through this forum! I meet with them in real life now and they are such beautiful people! It can be a hard adjustment to make though and sometimes dissapointing when the people we initially think will be our support turn out not to be...

Miamunchkin - Good luck with a routine!! As long as it doesn't do your head in though...I've found that my bubs basically are going to do as they please no matter how hard I try to do it my way - lol...I can try and try and get them to sleep longer and then all of sudden, bang, they start doing for their own little reasons!! I hope it works for you though!!

Beata - You poor thing with df back at work...how are you feeling now?? Are things settling down a little for you??

    Mel4d - Welcome!

Meercat - Woohoo on 5 hours!! Cross fingers it becomes a routine for you!

MIssawah - Yeah on a gorgeous photo shoot! I'm thinking I might try and get some baby photos of Jayden because we missed out on the ones in hospital. I did them for my first 2 at around 6 weeks and with Ethan we tried but he was a screamer...Such nice memories though when you get gorgeous photos!

Ok...again waiting for Jayden to wake so I can feed him and go to bed! He seems to have his biggest sleep at this time of night and then they get shorter and shorter overnight...

    Chat later!

Miamunchkin, I'm glad I made your day I really do admire you for expressing what you can. In the end I was only expressing 20 ml from both boobies and b/c I was so exhausted, I just gave up. So good on you for keep going!

Mel, welcome hun! Glad you could join us

Meercat, wow 5 hours, I wish!!! I would be happy with 4 TBH. And also wow on expressing 140 ml from just one boobie, the most I ever got was 100 ml from both, and that was only once!

Krisvee, well done on the shopping trip with Jayden sleeping through the whole thing! I thought about those baby sling things.....which one do you have? I'm doing OK I suppose, this week it's hard as DF took his son tonight shopping for his 18th birthday so was home alone til about 9 pm, then tomorrow he's going to the footy so will be alone again til about 11 pm, and then on Saturday he's out for the whole day on a fishing thing for his son's birthday. I really miss his help when he's not here. He pretty much takes Cam off my hands when he gets home which is big help.

b, yes we're on the same formula. I gave Cam his first dose this morning, and so far he's been feeding every 3.5 hours which is slightly longer than on the S26 Original. He has been a bit more spewy though.....he takes about 120 ml at a time. Wee guts I tell you!!! I will also give him a week on it, if he continues to be spewy and doesn't sleep much longer than on the Original formula, I might go back the the Original. Or maybe even try the Nan brand...gee I hate chopping and changing like that but someone told me it's just trying different formulas until I find one he likes. Hope your DP feels better soon.

Is anyone finding that their bub is staying awake more during the day, to the point where they are fighting sleep????? And then get over tired???? Grrrrrr!

Yeah my DP is facinated with how much milk I seem to produce - we are calling me the "Honey Cow" (I am obsessed with honey crumpets atm)

It literally sprays out of my nipple at the start of each feed.... I think I am lucky Tiah is so good at latching and emptying the boob.... it seems to have put my body into hyper milk mode

    Hello Ladies!

Sorry i haven't posted for a while, I have been reading all your posts though.

I know what you mean about feeling lonely, i get very lonely at home by myself. I love it when dh is around. I feel kinda blahhhhhh when i look around and all i see is housework that needs to be done!

My little Grace is doing well, b/feeding every 3 hours. When i worry about something i read all your posts and it appears a lot of our bubs are doing the same things, so i can relax and know it is normal!

It's great to hear all your bubs are doing so well! Soooo envious of those whose bubs are sleeping long periods at night!

well I tried to express this morning after I'd fed Harri and got maybe about 20/30mls. Will definitely try the hot shower as when I get out of the shower all I have to do is bend over and it pours out. Thanks for all your suggestions ladies

Con, glad to hear Grace is going well, sorry to hear you're feeling a bit lonely

B, yay on the longer sleeps!! Saw the photos on facebook of your DS and DD sleeping the same way, so cute!

    Meercat, lol at Honey Cow

Beata, yep! Harrison is staying awake longer during the day and tiring himself out, we read stories and what not and he's sleeping pretty well at night now.

    Krisvee, yay for shopping trip!
