bron - you go girl! 8 cm is heaps!!! i'm so proud of you!! you and will'll have heaps of fun in brissy! he'll get so spoilt!

I should get our xmas cards organised! havent done it yet. ive got some pressies, but mainly for Lakshman. Need to get something for Steve and been looking for a t-shirt at the Think Geek website.

no progress on our TTC. we're still too tired and im still sick. and we've also been thinking a winter baby will not be easy and my mum will really struggle w the cold. maybe a sept baby onwards.. i hope it doesnt sound selfish..
ive also joined the ttc thread but am feeling left out, the girls chatter and have already formed a bond.

sj - how are you feeling, it must be harder w a toddler and w dh working long hrs. i still havent had a night away fr Poopy.. i would like to see if i can have a restful sleep. but i think i wont be able to sleep with him in the same house as me..

skye - i hope anth's job lasts for a while, sounds good he gets paid for travel and accomm.
how's bri going w school orientation.
poopy and i find the left boob easier as i cradle more comfortable when his head is on my left side. i pat him to bed that way too..

Bri starts her orientation on the 18th. There are 3 days, not sure if she can go to all 3 or not. I might send her on the bus with Jaz to get her into that idea...maybe. Gawd, its just hit me! Tears! lol Bri on a school bus without me! I know all the kids & the bus driver are awesome & will look out for her though!

Prama you can talk to us about TTC. We've all been there. Took us a whole 11 months to finally concieve Jesse!

lol.. first of all to ttc, we need to be DTDing enough.. which we havent.. we've lost our spontaneous DTD to be honest.. :(

Geez.. spontanaiety.. don't even remember what that is. (Dunno if I can even spell it, lol)
After 10 months trying I forced Anth to DTD every night for a month (like I had to twist his arm!) that worked! lol

i know.. when we were ttc for Laksman, it was like being on a mission (no pun intended) DTD wasnt fun for either one of us! with all. it was all charting and scheduling etc.. haha.
i dunno... it's like sex is the least priority these days... maybe we are just getting too old..

hmmm....so whats my excuse?? lol

LOL you have 3 kids!! you prob have no time or space in bed for it..who would have thought it would come to this..we have 1 toddler and still it's near impossible.

I miscarried today.
I never thought that i would be so empty :(
I knew it was happening, pretty much, yesterday but was hanging on to the hope that its was just old blood being expelled... then it changed...
Booked for an u/s monday to see if i need a D and C (hope not)
feel really low, sad and just crappy.
I am of the theory that everything happens for a reason and it wasnt meant to be, but it doesnt make it any easier really.
Going to have a drink tonight, its not constructive at all, but i dont really care!

Skye Codie has been having af symptoms for quite a few years since she was about 7-8 she has been pre menstrual and has a little spotting too so don't freak out think its pretty normal, she might have scratched herself or something too i know its scary but all sounds pretty normal unless it is a lot of blood, might be time to have the chat with her if you haven't already... Codie still hasn't got af yet and she is almost 12 so stay calm hun xoxo

Thanks Trina. It was more than spotting though. It was like me not knowing, going to bed & waking up in the morning iykwim. I doubt I'd even have noticed spotting. It was a good 5cm round & dark, like it was happening over a few hours iykwim.
I'm pretty sure its nothing too, but there was just too much there IMO.

Im doing Ok,(TMI ALERT) the worst is passing it all and then flushing it down the toilet, it just feels wrong you know...
Anyway, not so sad anymore, being pretty rational about it all really, the baby wasnt well and so ccouldnt live, nothing i could have done about it...kwim
Its hard telling people and when people go out of they way to be nice i ball, but its getting easier... hardest thing was calling the OB and telling them that i wouldnt be coming to my first appointment.

Going back to work on Thursday and then having Friday off to get another scan to see if i have "cleared" it all...
Feeling pretty sore and tired, but iguess thats to be expected, the heat isnt helping though.
On a positive note on Monday when MJ was in DC other than getting the U/S i got curtains ordered for Mj and DSS rooms and i will try and get my Tax done on Friday - might as well make the most of being off work!

MJ is going through a smacking phase, something that she must have picked up at DC - seen other kids or something as we dont smack her... have put her in her room twice tody.
How do you guys discapline? its hard at this age as she really doesnt understand.
I give her a warning and then if she does it again she goes into her room for a minute.
Then we talk about what she did and why it was wrong.
Its been a trying few days as i emotionally am not at my best to handle it.
DH has been great, but im the one that is there all the time...

SJ - You have a remarkably positive attitude about everything.

Re discipline: We do smack Jazz now and then, though currently the only affect it seems to have is her smacking us back. Recently I've been giving her warnings and then I put her in her room for 1-2 mins (sometimes slightly longer if I'm trying to do something like cook or serve dinner). Usually when I have put her in her room for more than 5 minutes she falls asleep.
On the times when she's in there for 1-2 mins, I then go and open the door and get down to her level and tell her that she had to have a time out because (whatever the reason is) and that she has to say sorry to mummy. She will say sorry and give me a hug. Sometimes she'll say sorry after the first warning before we even get to time out which is great.

This morning she came into our room at 5:30am, so I took her back to her room, put a DVD on and shut the door. An hour later when Matt got up and opened her door, she came into our room, climbed up on the bed next to me. Normally she will give us a good morning kiss without being asked. This morning she didn't do that so I asked her for one. She said "I don't wanna kiss" Not a nice sentence to hear, but I was excited that she said her first sentence. I asked her if she didn't want to give me a kiss because she was mad at me for putting her in her room this morning and she said "Yes. mad"

sj - we dont smack poopy as we think he doesnt understand what he's doing at this stage tho, smetimes he repeats things just to see what our reaction is. he really only misbehaves when he's tired/sick/bored.
i guess it depends what he's done for us to discipline him. when he's cranky/bored/tired he tends to bite (at home only) i do a pretend cry and say it hurts lakshman, dont do it. he looks at it and then gives me a cuddle. and i tell him thanks lakshman, and that I know he's sorry and that I'm sorry too and explain to him that biting hurts and he shouldnt do it.
we try to keep thngs as consistent as in day care, where if a child does something to another child,they explain that it's wrong and it has hurt the other child and ask them to cuddle and of cos they so easily forget and forgive. if there's a hitting or biting, they get the child to caress the other child's arm etc and say be gentle etc.
lakshman has gotten into trouble for hugging too hard (he apparently only hugs the girls) and theyve told him to be gentle.

at home, the time i've smacked his hand was when he kept sticking it into the power point, he kept doing it probably cos of my reaction and to see how much he can get away w it! at the end, he smacked my hand back!
but if he starts doing things that he shouldnt be doing, we tell why he shouldnt be doing it and then distract him to do something else.

it's probably going to get harder when they are older and more demanding..

re: smacking, I dont know the answer to this but do you t hink kids tend to smack even when dont do it at home as a natural instinct to vent their frustration. sometimes kids hit or bite other kids cos htey cant express themselves in words.
hmm i also better be careful when i smack steve on the bum and vice versa.. hehe

I didn't get the job I had an interview for a couple of weeks ago. They narrowed it down to 2 and I was one of the 2 and they were having trouble deciding and even wanted to create another position so they could have both of us (but they can't just do that). Anyway, in the end the person who got it already works in the area and knows the database program so they don't have to do much training and thats why that person got it over me.
I got very good feedback and had a lovely chat with the chair of the appointment committee.

Spoke to my boss and he said I'll definately still have a job there next year so I'm happy that I don't have to panic coz my current contract finishes on 31 December. I just need it in writing.

poopy bit a kid today :( :cry: im so upset.. poor poopy and poor other kid.
they both wanted the same toy. luckily he didnt put any force in it.. i dunno if it;s cos he's sick and teething. the carers said the last few days he's been cranky and very tired.
i hope he doesnt do it again. they asked him to caress the other kid's arm and cuddle and told him the kid's crying as biting hurts. he gave the kid a cuddle and they were friends again.
we just feel so awful, that he bit someone and that he hurt someone as well.

Aww prama *hugs* its sucks to be parents of a biter or bitee..but it is normal hun..very normal I promise you.As lakshman gets more language it will dissapear. Day care are handling it just the right way and its best to follow suit at home. We give most of the attention to the bitee and just make a really sad face and shake our heads saying oh poor....oh dear you have made him so sad and hurt you musnt bite. We remove them form the situation that provoked the bite and there is osme level of understanding to it. Sad faces have a big impact with any age. It may well happen again..even a few times but just handle it the same way. Biting usual comes form lack of language ( cant express quick enough a want or frustration) it can come from teething too. Dont beat yourself up about it..very very rarely does a child bite to conciously infilict pain upon another child its just quicker than talking is all. Day care will let you know if it happens again and keep an eye on the situations where it happens.It will be ok..20 years tells me this *hugs* for you and for poopys new learning experience even if its not such a nice one.
Oh and PS...its that time of the year. Children in care are pretty worn out about now. They have had a year of being told what to do by other people they are very familiar with routine and are testing boundries.Does your centre close for a while over xmas? will Lakshman have some time away from care? Its just like us at work we get snappy and tired when its time for a break.

Biting happens prama like Bron said don't beat yourself up about it. Summer was bitten at the creche on Wed and had a full set of teeth marks on her arm I didn't really get upset or angry about it (only thing that annoys me is the ladies there don't seem to watch the kids very well and don't know what who or how it happened) she also had a scratch on her face so these things happen.

Summer is talking so much atm can't believe we are all on the way to 2 scary stuff!!! We are starting TT now she has shown the signs to start so hopefully the split parenting situation will work for us.

i spoke to one of the carers this morning and she said it was outdoors and lakshman wanted a car another kid had. he's just so car crazy these days.
he got bitten a while ago, and yes it's heartbreaking both sides. and i feel so bad for the kid and his/her parents.

well, he better not do this when he's playing sport when he's grown up. haha.
and yes, they get cranky and tired and i think he's teething too, and that's an outlet.
tho some days i wish i could bite some ppl at work too.

yes, we have the last week of dec off. so that will be nice. everyone will be nice and refreshed. and we get real quality time with him at home instead of all the other times when we've been away.

poopy isnt talking much yet, and yest is the first time he put 2 words together. steve was setting his vapouriser and he looked at me and said 'what that' I was so proud!

Jazz has been biting for a while but is not doing it so much now. At home I now give her a time out in her room if she does it to us. At daycare she gets removed from the other child and distracted with something else. The FDC lady uses diversion tatics when there is a naughty kid.

Hi girls, just had my u/s and things look good - as in i have cleared most of it myself, hopefully no need for a D and C... I did give my body a talking too on Wednesday night "you have 24hrs to clear this now, i know you can do it, so do your thing' haha obviously worked as yesterday was a pretty full on day internally!!!

I thought i would metione that i read somewhere that you should only do a minute for each year they are... ie 1-2mins max for kids this age, otherwise it loses its impact - thought that was interesting.

I shut the door when I put Jazz in time out. When I go back in I make sure I stand in the door way so she can't get out. I then get down to her level, hold her shoulders and explain why she was in time out and that she has to say sorry. Once she says sorry we just get on with out day.

Yes she'll scream for a while while she's in her room, but hard as it is...I just ignore it for a minute and I tell Matt what I'm doing so he knows not to go in there because she's being punished. When one of us is punishing her with time out we let that parent finish the punishment so that we're not undermining eachother...mind you, I'm the one who punishes because she's a little princess for Matt.

I would give a warning (1 to 3 depending on how patient I'm feeling). Once you've determined how many warnings you're going to give I would say something like "if you bite (or other thing) again you will be put in your room for some alone time"

When you put him in time out say "you have to stay here until you can play nicely"
then close the door and walk away. If you have to, set a timer for 1-2 mins so you don't forget to go back in and so you don't go back in too early.

When you go back make sure you explain it again but do it in a loving tone and give a hug. Make sure you are clear that if the behaviour continues that he'll be in time out again and IMO after this time, 1 warning before time out should be sufficient.

Now is the perfect age to start these things and they do start understanding quite quickly. I think though when Jazz is 2.5-3 years old I wont be doing time out in her room where there are toys, I'll probably put her in a boring corner...but this wont come until she can understand about staying put without the aid of me shutting a door.
