everyone - hope you're all well!

afm - more stitches have broken down, and I don't exactly have a whoo-har at the moment (or much of a perineum) because it seems the stitches keeping the vaginal wall have dissolved too ... have brought my appointment with my surgeon forward 2 weeks, and will be seeing him on Wednesday ... we're that he looks at it, and can see exactly what's going on, explain it to us, and give us a realistic idea of how long the healing is going to take. He's assured me over the phone that this does happen, and it does heal itself ... we're just really praying that all of this will be over and healed and everything will be fixed and feeling fine by christmas ... I want to be able to sit in my MIL's spa with a glass of champagne at Christmas ... and DH and I would like to be able to to DTD by then too! We've not been allowed to have sex *at all* since the birth, because of the damage down there ... it's poor DH's 30th b'day in a few days, and we can't even have birthday bedtime, let alone start working on baby #2 like we'd planned...

There was a lady in our antenatal class that turned green when we watched a video of a woman giving birth. She would've fainted at the sight of the placenta in real life!!!! Thanks hun, I think Deacon is a bit of a spunk too, but I'm pretty biased Can't wait to see your little wormette. She will be gorgeous.

Ellie: Holy crap hun you've been through the wringer!!!! Take care and I hope everything settles down for you soon.

Miskilla: So glad to hear Bubba Z is doing well. I love all the pickies you have with his cool nappies. I'm seriously considering using MCN's with our next one. I didn't realise there was such a choice now.

AFM: Poor little Deacon has just come down with the most terrible cold. He has snot flowing everywhere and because he has stuffy sinuses his little eyes are all gummy as well. Last night was awful. He woke up at 9pm and was coughing and coughing and coughing. The vapouriser seems to be helping a little and he's not as bad this morning. I'll see how he's going when we wakes up and if his chest still sounds all rattly I'm going to ring my dr. I feel so bad for him coz there's not much we can do. He's really feeling it too. He's gone all quiet and just wants cuddles, which we are happy to give him.

I can't wait until this weekend. My mum, dad, sister and her husband are coming down from Bris-vegas for a visit And they are bringing our brand new camper trailer with them. Can't wait until the weather warms up so we can go camping!!!!

HI Everyone!
Well you have totally confused me with changing names too?! Makes me wonder if I should come up with something more exciting.
So, we have 2 offers for daycare. One is exactly the days I wanted & close to work (but away from home) and the other is 3 days, not the ones I wanted, but close to home! Have checked with work & they don't care what 3 days I do, so that is nice. I have done surprise drop in's on both centres & think the one away from home is actually the nicer of the two. So basically she is on the roll at that one now & if we decide not to send her there we have to let them know asap.
Oooo, just have to share too, Alyssa rolled over by herself this morning (tummy to back). Has only done it the once & I'm not entirely sure she meant to, but she did it!! It made me cry (what a sooky la la). Daddy was sad when I called to tell him as he wasn't here for it. That's what's going to suck about day care - missing milestones.
I hope Deacon is doing better today Gigglemonkey.
Peanutter you just continue you to amaze me with your determination. I will cross fingers that all is well at your appt and they don't find any other surprises for you. You will be making bub #2 in no time I'm sure.

just prefacing ladies that this one is all about me! and a little long ... hope no one is offended ...

Ok.

Well, I saw the surgeon yesterday.

Better news than we expected, but not as good as we’d hoped.

As we thought, there has been some substantial damage where part of the operation happened, but it’s not all just stitches not healing, some of it is actually the tissue breaking down (the bit of the muscle that had to get fixed is of course currently swollen etc, and so the tissue going over it didn’t like being stretched that far, and so collapsed).

Apparently this breakdown is not a result of anything going wrong - it’s just that I’m young, and so the tissue etc is quite firm and has a high blood flow, and isn’t very giving … so there was a 30% chance of this happening (which I had been told - I just had a very different impression of what would be happening if it brokedown, and so was caught unawares.

BUT it will all apparently heal. And the surgeon (having now seen it) thinks it will be more like 3 months. And the surgeon recognized straightaway what was happening, and could explain it and explain how it will heal - which was somewhat comforting in the circumstances.

Also in the good news category is the confirmation that this won’t affect further pregnancies - there has been a lot of concern for me over the past few weeks that the new injury would mean that my cervix wouldn’t be strong enough to keep a new baby safe and inside my womb, and I’ve been terribly upset about that. But the surgeon has had a good look, and says that the damage is much lower than the cervix, and so it would only be right near the end of the pregnancy that this would be a concern, and so my obstetrician for all future pregnancies will just need to keep a weather eye on the baby's weight, and make sure I get in for a c-section before the baby is too big for me to safely carry. But it will be a matter of whether I get a c-section at 37 weeks of 38 week, not about whether I’m going to miscarry at 22 weeks, or need an emergency c-section at 28 weeks, like I was worrying about.

So that’s also very good news.

In the less good news, the other damage I noticed the day after I got home from hospital is a mistake - the surgeon admitted they’d accidentally nicked me during the surgery, and it’s quite deep, and it’s not healing too well at the moment, and isn’t comfortable … he says it will heal, but he didn’t apologise. So there's a painful, leaking, accidental cut in addition to the break down of vaginal wall and stitch-less perineal cut down there ... bags of fun .... no, really ...

In a mixture of positive and negative, he thinks that the areas which are sore will stop being sore within 6 or so weeks, and the areas which are still numb will mostly be back to normal within 12 months, and possibly as quickly as within the next 6 weeks, too.

The parts which will have scar tissue obviously won’t regain feeling, but the scars should be quite narrow. That’s a very long time, and of course we won’t know until then if it hasn’t worked, and if it’s not back by then, I don’t think there’s anything much they could (or at least, would) do about it, so it sounds a bit “pie in the sky” to talk about … but hopefully it will just be back to normal within the same 6 week time frame.

One strange thing is that the surgeon told me yesterday that he has never had a patient for one of these types of injuries who hasn’t been quite badly traumatized by the entire event, and that it often leads to problems between her and her partner, baby, within herself, etc … so five months after it’s happened, it’s effectively being recommended that I/we consider some counselling … why no one suggested this five months ago I’m not sure … but it’s something DH and I will have to look into … Because what I’m feeling and have been upset about is all (in our opinion) perfectly rational to be upset and angry about, it’s difficult to tell whether there is any “post natal depression” or “post traumatic stress” or just "I've had a horrible birth experience, and will be upset thinking about it for a little while" IYKWIM.

DH and I are going to talk about it and decide what if anything we should do there.

Another negative is that most activities are still completely not allowed for another six weeks … but I am allowed to do gentle exercise, walking, etc, so hopefully I can start to work on losing some of the recovered baby weight (which I’d previously lost!) … and DH was given a Wii with a Wii Fit last weekend from his parents for his birthday/Christmas prezzie - it apparently has yoga on it, so I can do some abdominal and back muscle exercises at home, to try to undo some of the damage from not being able to do any proper exercise for the past 4.5 months …

Definately no sex, sex-like-activities, general fiddling or anything of the kind for quite a while yet, probably 3 months at least. Aaaaargh! Very unhappy. Penetrative sex might be even longer. *wail* And he can't really say whether it will be pleasurable when I *can* do it again, anyway, because it will apparently feel different, and might hurt. Not happy at all, in that department. I think the only sex alternative I'll have for all that time will be eating chocolate. And while that's quite pleasurable, it's just not the same.

But after six weeks, I’ll be seeing the surgeon again, and he should be able to give me a much clearer estimate for healing, when we can look at having another baby, and (God willing) most things will have resolved by then.

So - we’re that I’m all healed soon, maybe even before Christmas.

I would love to get to the end of the year, and just to be able to put all the negatives of this behind us, and just concentrate on the positives.

It's all still pretty raw emotionally, quite upsetting, partly sore, party numb, but God willing we're on the right track ...

ive got my feet up, well most of the time, and no sign of her deciding to come earthside just yet so all is good here, im aiming for 4 more weeks, will bring me to 34 and i can deliver at my private hospy like planned.

What pram do you guys have??? I want a new pram! I've narrowed it down and it has to have:
3 wheels or good shockys
Fantastic shade cover
Toddler option
Pump up tyres

I had a new pram when I had James (5yrs ago) but we do a lot of walking now and the 3 wheeler I have has **** shade cover and they don't make one to fit properly With James going to school 5 days a week next year I want to be able to walk him and will need a decent pram to do that, one that will last!!! Budget isn't too much of an issue although I refuse to pay more for a pram than I did my wedding dress!!!

So..... what do you have? What pram does your heart desire??????

prams - I really wanted the steelcraft orbit (?) but DH had veto rights on the pram and carseat, because he'll be the one using them basically 95% of the time.

Hi Ladies

Doodlebug I have a Bebe RVerse pram. Its a 4 wheeler & a bit of a pain to pack (have to do it in 2 halves & it takes up my whole boot). My MIL got it for us & it was her preference. If I had my time again I would have insisted she got us the Baby Jogger (any of them really). They were so easy to fold & plenty of accessories. As it is I'm now looking into light easy to fold strollers to use for daily outings & just use this big one for walks. Stroller wise I think I'm down to MacLaren Triumph or Bebe Lunar. Just have to find them in the flesh to check them out. I too have heard good things about Phil & Ted's, more as a 2 up pram though for 2 young ones.

Yules Alyssa has started sitting this week. She is very proud of herself & hates her rocker now! Means I need to be much more diligent where I leave her as she still gets the rolls up when she loses concentration. She hasn't rolled over again since earlier this week, so it must of been a fluke, but that's ok at least I got to see it!

Peta and Yules - Wow! Sitting babies! Logan is nowhere near sitting, he's much to relaxed to want to do anything like that! hahaha! He has now been rolling over regularly though, back to front, Yay!

Yules - hope you're having a ball in Phuket!!! Will definitely see you when you get back to Perth!

Giggles - how's Deacon doing? Hope he's all better now for you!

Hollybolly - haven't seen you aroud here in a while!?!?! Hope you're travelling ok!

As for the pram saga..... I FINALLY figured out what I want and bought it! After going to one shop, choosing the one I thought I wanted, got home, walked around the block, steering pulled to the right and the brake was super hard to put on, came home, whinged to husband, cried coz I thought I'd wasted a bunch of money. He packed it up in the box and took it back the next day! Got a refund and then went to the other shop and bought............ a Phil and Ted Explorer!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! If I could kick husband out of bed and take Phil I'd be a happy girl!!! Only downside is Phil has a sore foot! One of his wheels is buckled so I'll call the shop and see if I can take it in this morning, don't really want to have to take Phil with me, as you can tell we've become quite close in the last couple of days!

Solids - I'm doing BLS with Logan, much to the confusion of my mothers group girls! They kind of look at me like I have a second head when I tell them I don't mash banana for Logan, I peel it for him! Anyway, yesterday we went to town with the finger food and boy this kid has good taste! Started off with multigrain bread with a bit of butter at breaky (would have been better with no butter but he just grabbed it off my plate!), lunch was at my parents house where he chowed down on a pork spare rib! Loved it that much he cried when he dropped it on the floor! Then followed that up with a wedge of rockmelon! So proud of my little man! We didn't do this with ds1 and I wish we had, this is sooooo much easier than pureeing foods and taking them out with you! I've been reading 'Baby Led Weaning by Jill Rapley', it's fantastic! And really cheap from the Book Depository in the UK. Plus they have free postage!

Anyway, that's my big proud mummy brags for today! Hope you girls all have a great day!
