I just heard Anna Bligh talking about how the rescuers are trained to coax people out who are too caught up with fear to want to leave. So I think that's probably it - fear, pure and simple.
Trill, I'm sure your bro will be ok, there are lots of good people on the ground helping those people that need help, and it seems like the sort of conditions that lead to the crazy flash flooding and tragedy elsewhere don't apply here. Let us know if you need some distracting..I'll put my distraction tutu on and wave my distraction fairy wand for you, ok?!
-
I'm plenty distracted now - I have a 1200 word report to write by next friday LOL. I haven't started on it yet so that's my project for tonight.
-
Ok, well let me know if you need any personalised proof reading service with a smile. :D
-
Just a quick question - at W's 3 year old check he weighed 13.4kg, now he is only 11.2kg - that is over 2 kilos that he has lost in the past 3.5 months. Should I be worried? Or is it just to be expected from the crazy amount of bike-riding he is doing? How do I let him keep riding the bike without him wasting away? There is only 1kg weight difference between him and A now.
-
Gee Arte, that is a lot of weight to lose. It's only been a few weeks since Christmas, so surely bike riding wouldn't be responsible for such a big amount? Was it a bare weigh at 3yo? If he had more clothes on it might explain some of the weight loss too if he wasn't wearing as many clothes when you weighed him. Is he otherwise well? Eating the same?
-
I actually remember commenting to DH that he had put on weight since starting kindy - he nust have been about 13.8kg in late October and it was a noticeable weight gain because he actually had a bit of padding on his ribs. But he is a skeleton again. The 3yo weigh was nude, today was right after breakfast and fully dressed. He has been eating heaps more since he started kindy, and otherwise he is fine.
-
Arte, just make sure he is weighed on the same scales - it could be a calibration problem. But that does sound like an awful lot of weight in that time...I would be thinking about getting him assessed by a paed in the first instance, just for peace of mind and also because if the trend continues over the next couple of months it will be handy to have a base line observation, kwim. There's a whole heap of stuff you can do to make food more energy dense if he is a picky eater, like adding butter or oil and grated cheese to cooked food, adding powdered milk to the milk he is drinking, etc. Does he like to have dessert - maybe add that in or increase the serving size for a bit. It sounds like he's a very busy little person. My good friend's eldest son was always on the verge of underweight - always too interested in what's going on around him to really attend to his own hunger signals.
-
LOL, false alarm - I just weighed him again and got 14.4. Odd, because I did it twice this morning and both times said 11.2. Perhaps it had something to do with me not wearing my glasses at the time?
I measured him as well and he has got a bit taller so I guess that is why he is looking thinner again.
Trill, how is your brother doing?
So what happens to all the people who can't work because of the floods? Is the govt going to provide some sort of temp income? Or waive the stand-down period for unemployment at least? It is inevitable that some of the businesses damaged in the floods won't reopen. The massive scale of roadworks etc just to get the infrastructure up and going again is unthinkable.
-
I haven't been able to get in touch with him all night - little turd. So after talking to Mum, who is decidedly calmer today, we're going to play the 'you have to call me NOW because Mum is beside herself with worry and can't stop crying card' LOL. But I just called Grafton Police and they said that there is no immediate risk for the area, the water has gone down a little and they have had no callouts or anything like that so she said he would be find and to just keep trying to call him.
Arte, there are centerlink payments available to those who can't work, so they wont be without money. Oh and it's good to know that it's a case of your bad eyes rather than something wrong with W
-
Hi girls!
arte: phew! i guess this is one of those rare times we can be thankful that is was bad eyesight rather than something serious with W lol! Leila is also a skinny little thing. she *might* be cracking 12kgs...might....
Sherie: good news on the flood front. but too true...little turd lol! i can only imagine the stress that this has brought
AFM: well, it feels like a Fiji winter down here atm. a bit humid with non-stop rain. sooo weird. have been in melbourne 3 years and this is the first time that there is like some semblance of real humidity lol.
-
Well i finally heard from my brother. He said he'd only just woken up! He must have stayed awake all night or something. Anyway, he is safe and sound still and hopefully it will only be another day or so before the water is low enough for him to get to Grafton and then come home.
Cass, at that rate M will be overtaking her in the size stakes LOL - she looks like she is a big chubby girl. I am hating the humidity too. It's really not that hot here - not even hot enough to justify running the air con but it is just so oppressive and yuck. I can handle 45deg heat no worries, but humidity - no way!
Speaking of weights, A has finally chubbed up too. He's hovering at 16kg now and even has a little muffin top LOL. But he's still a long way off being chubby. I think he's gotten taller too - he is able to reach higher now and get things he shouldn't LOL. Oh and he has no arse ROFL. The others all had this chumpy little bum that you could squeeze like no tomorrow  but he has nothin'. He has a size 1 pair of shorts that he wears that still sit really low on his waist.
Oh, I have been meaning to ask for ages too. How are all the preparations going getting our wee ones ready for Kinder/preschool? I ordered him a backpack from mooo that has his name on it and I got out L's old preschool t-shirt and washed it, but I think it will be too big on him so I might have to get a smaller size. L was a lot bigger than A is so he had a size 6 shirt, but A will ideally only need a 4.
-
hi girls
trill- great to hear that your bro will be ok. might have to check out the 'moo' brand. i have bought L one of those super exxy drink bottles from germany LOL i thought dh would kill me but he reckons it's awesome and wants one for himself now. that's about all the prep i've done.
i think L must be some kind of boofa! he's hit 19kg. haven't weighed j for a while, might have to do it later. only drama is i don't want to have to get on the scales with him and then subract my weight (what i usually have to do with the little wriggler) cos i don't want to see how high my weight has gone over xmas
so i ended up going to the dr today and turns out i have an ear infection. yuck!!!
-
Ginger, sorry to hear the vinegar cure didn't work :(. I hope your ear is feeling better soon, stuff like that which is near your brain is horrible.
No idea how much Missy E weighs, she seems pretty tall though, and unlike DD1 who was always very lean and always got too tall for her clothes but never too wide, Missy E has quite a stocky frame...mind you it is all muscle, she's very physically strong in a way DD1 never was. Might weigh her before her bath tonight.
Trill must be such a relief to hear from your bro . Kindy is a full year away from us yet...Missy E will do 1 half-day a week starting in term 4 of this year, but that's still such a long way off. Her little friend at FDC turns 4 in time to start in the middle of the year so sadly Missy E will be a full 6 months behind her buddy, so they will only be in kindy together for 2 terms. :( We have however got in early with a "things I love about school" book for christmas LOL.
Arte, I don't think bathroom scales are terrible accurate...either that or W is saving up a huge POO worth a couple of kilos since this morning ...Seriously, some of that weight difference might've been if he was a bit dehydrated or something too.
-
Hmm no idea what N weighs - i reckon 12-13 kg,. he was so big as a bub but hasnt really put on much weight recently. he is about 98cm - i know that as we measured in NZ.
Jakey is still tiny - about 9.4kg - though he has been on an eating frenzy when we were away so i think had a growth spurt. i will try to weigh them both this weekend.
As for weight - i am back on a health mission. mainly to do w exercise. want to lose 10-12 kg this year... and i know i need to and this year is a lot more about me me me...
we are booking a holiday to Hawaii at the moment - so exciting!
Trill - I am so glad y9ou heard from your bro. it is all so so awful. i am shopping at witchery today - 100% profits to the flood appeal. go on ladies we have to do our bit!
Prep for kinder are going well - N is so excited. we have a gtky with the teacher on 1 feb then he does a couple of half days and then starts on the 7th or 8th. he cant wait. me - i dont know how i will manage the dpuble drop offs and pick ups and also feels weird he is starting at 'school'. like he could go there til yr 12! bizarre.
I think it is time to wean J. i posted in the BF section if anyone has tips.
-
i posted for ya MP! i'm no expert, and am drawing from distant memory..yes, 2009 is a distant memory lol!
G: ohh noo! ear infections are no fun. but thankfully the ABs do kick in quite fast.
AFM: leila and i both had a haircut the other day! my first in almost 3 years  it's ok. but nothing too great. i miss my hairdresser Paul in brissy...
-
Thanks Cass. was feeling really unloved as no one had responded. its actually amazing - when i had more time and i was on all the time i used to get heaps of responses when i had a q... now i struggle... guess i am not really part of the wider 'communinity' anymore. (bring out the violins).
-
MP  No I've noticed BB has been quieter than usual, it has been a difficult week in the BB community and I think at those times there are lots of views and not many posts. Plus the community has expanded somewhat so even us oldies are still complete strangers to some! I didn't reply because I kinda feel like it was an eternity away for us. Reflecting on it since, Missy E probably weaned largely because of the problems I was having feeding her on my funky boobie. But that's not very helpful  I think it's good to put yourself first a little bit more this year.
Cass, I can't believe it's been so long between haircuts, you musta had a bit of a rapunzel thing going on?! LOL I had my haircut last night, Missy E needs hers as DH took her just before christmas and she came home looking pretty much the same (not sure what they actually cut??!)
Current obsession at our house is The wizard of Boz as Missy E likes to call it...DH gave her the duster for a broomstick to ride around on and she takes turns being the wicked witch or the good witch. The broomstick doubles as a magic wand and I've been turned into a fairy a few times by the wicked witch LOL.
-
I'm siiiiiick. This was a dumb idea.
MP, I was ready to wean A because she was waking 5-6 times at night for a feed. So I cut out the night feeds. She wasn't happy about it, but the longest it took was 14 minutes of walking/rocking/singing to get her back to sleep. It has been six weeks now and she doesn't expect it now. She still feeds during the day but I can handle that if she isn't waking me up all night.
We aren't usually a toilet humor kind of family, but W recently discovered the hilarity of the nearly empty sauce bottle. "Now mum, I am not doing blow-offs at the table, I am just getting some sauce", and then we mock tell him off for the sounds. It is very funny lol.
Urrghhhhh. JM, how do you cope feeling like arse all the time with kids to look after?? I don't know what to do. I surely can't do this for weeks on end!
-
MP: there is definitely bad mojo about the boards ATM. too much intensity has lead to some pretty full on blow-ups. i know that it has made me step back a bit and only post in my Baby buddies thread for the most part.
Arte: that is cool about miss A. Marta is a boob monster so i *know* that we will be begging for your experience in a few months time lol.
MD: maybe the hairdresser had her own wand and swished it about on Missy Es hair lol?!!
-
MP, I've noticed that especially with the BF threads that there are a handful of people who seem to know the most and usually post in all the BF threads, so it puts off a lot of other people from posting, but when those people aren't around the boards much, it is pretty noticeable kwim? I have no idea how to help you out though sorry
Arte, we're a toilet humour family and sauce bottle farts always get a round of giggles  When I was pg with A, I had the worst m/s that I'd ever had and I felt so wretched that I actually said to DH once that if I had of known I would feel so crook and for so long that I would have reconsidered the pg LOL. But my advice is to just do as much as you can. If you feel too crappy to do more than the bare minimum then don't do it. You only end up feeling more wrung out in the end.
-
This is so ****ing ****ed up! What the hell is happening?!
JM, how are you doing? It is upsetting enough just knowing her from posts here on BB, but I know you were a RL friend. Thinking of you xx
-
how is everyone doing?
i'm gutted. don't know what to say. can't really believe it all. just can't stop thinking about the kids.

Morning Girls,
Very Very Sad News about Lulu :(
-
OMG- that is just shocking and so awful.. and so soon after her sister too. How terrible for her family/kids and of course her friends. Many hugs to everyone... I havent read the threads about it so I dont know what happened or how but i am just heartbroken thinking of her kids and her sisters kids and the rest of her family.
-
-
It makes no sense at all...my heart is breaking for our whole community and most especially those who were lucky enough to know Lulu in person. MP apparently she just collapsed out of the blue, similar to what happened to Amy. My eyes are totally swollen this morning, I can barely see out of them. Just so wrong and my worst nightmare (leaving the kids without a mother) visited doubley on one family.
-
one thing is for sure. this place will never ever be the same.
-
I am in shock. i couldnt sleep last night and i didnt know why. then i thought about BB and got on at like 1am and there it was. those awful words. i am reeling. she had only just taught me (yes, the one married to the italian lol) what pasta a matriciana is all about. i'll forever hold dearly the memory of her sitting beside me ordering her drinks, chowing down on her pasta while painting her nails...'cause a girl should never go out without her nails done :)
what a year.

-
I'm just putting it out there that i love you guys...
this is my safe place on BB and we give the best group hugs! :grouphug:
-
I love you guys too - I hope you realise how important you all are to me xx
I wish I could log on and find it was all some sort of stupid joke. Can't stop thinking about her children, her parents who have lost two daughters so closely...
Ginger, you are right - BB won't be the same
-
i met up with lulu once at a macdonalds when i was pg with jimmy. i had no idea what she looked like, so it was a bit of a blind date. i walked in and saw this lady smiling over at me with her daughter and i thought 'that can't possibly be her', but it was. i just couldn't understand how someone who looked so young could be so wise. she just had so much life experience and seemed to know so much about people. i'm not sure what i expected to walk in and see, maybe a wise old owl or something sitting there chomping down on a caramel sundae
i sure will miss the way she always seemed to know what to say and how to say it xoxox
big group hug here too. this year has been so full on
-
I love you guys too.
Ginger, she was an amazing person who has a legion of fans. I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet her, but I very definitely get the impression that you're not the only person who felt that way about her. I just feel lucky that she shared so much of herself online, so that we can still access her words, energy and wisdom even now that she's gone?
-
I love you all too.
Although I may not be on BB as much anymore I am always thinking of you all xoxo
-
Oh guys, tears rolling down and sending hugs to everyone - 3 yrs since posting here and I still think of you all. Heard on FB and had to check in to send everyone big, big hugs - esp the family.
Nothing more one can say at the moment. Will check in again very soon. Cassius gimme a call if you want to come over and cry and hug.
xxxxx
-
Queenie, wish I could pop over and avail myself of a hug. xxx
-
Queenie my dear! I wish you were coming back in happier circumstances
And we do give the best group hugs don't we? We've been an amazing support network for each other over the years.
