Most pregnant women find that their hair growth is much stronger during the pregnancy and perhaps their natural hair loss much less. This is due the increased levels of oestrogen hormone produced. Therefore, you may find that your hair is thicker and possibly even notice more body hair as your pregnancy progresses.
After the birth, many breastfeeding women experience noticeable head hair loss. This is called 'alopecia' (pronounced 'al-o-peesh-ia') and is thought to be due to high levels of the Prolactin hormone produced by the woman's body. New hair grows back once the breastfeeding stops. Some women find that using natural therapies are beneficial in treating hair loss. These may include rubbing creams or oils into the scalp (such as jojoba), homoeopathic remedies, or tissue salts. Consult your practitioner.
