Could it be the uterus still contracting? Maybe AF is on her way?

How did you go last night? I was just going to ask do you think it could be any retained product? Not necesarily placenta, cause that should have been checked out at the birth to see if it were intact or not, but maybe a clot that hasn't come away. After Alister's birth it was 10days afterwards and I had a bit of a bleed (OK, well more than a bit, but it did stop on it's own) and passed a clot the size of a tennis ball about an hr later. When I called the hospital they said the bleeding was caused by the clot coming away but it should be fine if I had no further bleeding (which you didn't say you had, but with the cramping, you may fine you get heavier bleeding in a little while kwim) and that I showed no signs of infection etc. It freaked me right out cause I was still *technically* at risk of a PPH and I didn't want another one of those thank you very much LOL.

    thanks guys.

i called my mw last night - she is sure the placenta was in tact so doubt it id that, but i am still cramping and the blood is fresh red again, but she says this is quite normal too as it can be on and off for a while.

my milk seems to be a bit better too....

mw also said make sure i dont get atemperature, but if i do to head down to hossy if with clots etc.

here's hoping i dont end up with secondary pph on top of the initial pph!!!

trillian - did it settle for you after you passed the clot?

Yep, it was fine once I passed the clot. I was on tenterhooks for a while afterwards though. One thing the midwife told me when I called about it was that I had a rather large placenta (it was literally the size of a dinner plate) and she said that there is a large area to heal in there, so it was all connected to the uterus shrinking back to normal size etc. Another thing, have you been doing a lot about the place in the last day or so? housework, shopping, a lot of activity? I know if I tended to overdo things that I would get quite crampy etc in the few weeks after birth. It could also explain the new blood you are seeing too. Glad to hear the milk is better too - make sure you drinks loads of water and rest as much as you can.
