Who has used estrogen cream while BFing?

After 6 months of trying to DTD with no luck (after being told by my OB at the 6 week PP check that I had healed too tightly) I finally went to see a GP. I had to see one to get a referral to go back to my OB because I had left it so long!

Anyway she had a look and said that there is an unusual ridge of scar tissue at the bottom. Otherwise all around the rest of it looks fine. She said I have age on my side and good, healthy skin. I think part of my problems are definitely in my head and being scared about the pain.

Anyway I don't want to get into it all too much (bit personal). She has given me a referral for my OB and also one to a recommend female gyno. I'm going to see both and see what my options are.

Anyway the main reason for this post is about the cream. She gave me a script for the vaginal cream, Oestriol. She knows I am BFing and thinks it should be okay to use the cream. I was just reading the leaflet and feel so scared by it all!

If you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor before Ovestin Cream is inserted. Small amounts of the active oestriol can be excreted in the breast milk. Milk production could also be reduced.

What would you do? Use the cream? She did say it would be okay.

Fee, I used a similar product (it was a little estrogen tablet that you inserted once a day). I started when DD was a bit older than 6 months and continued to BF like normal. My Dr assured me that the dose is so small and topical that the BM impact would be negligible. I noticed no difference whatsoever! Anyway, it was kind of a case of needing to put my well being first, as I was in a pretty bad way!

I was prescribed that cream when I was breastfeeding DD and I used it. I was also told it was fine to use by my GP.
It certainly never affected my milk supply in a negative way, I always had too much!

I guess it should be okay. I did use a nipple shield for 6 months without any supply issues!

What about the active oestriol being excreted in the BM? It won't harm Cooper in any way?

i was told to use it to. i stopped after a week because i wasn't sure whether i should use it or not. that leaflet thing is very scary hey.... plus its meant for hormone replacement therapy patients... that made me suss. i guess i should go back and ask again cause DTD still hurts like hell unless (TMI) doggie style which is not one of my favourites!

Yes it was very very scary reading that leaflet. But you're right Mads. It's all there for legal reasons.

I decided to start using it last night.
