    How do you pronounce Felix?

My H commented the other day that I pronounce Felix as "Fill-ix", or "Phil-ix". He said he thought it was pronounced "Feel-ix". I don't think that sounds right and I told him he's making the "e" sound too long. I just looked the name up though and it said it's pronounced "FEEL-iks"... so maybe he's right?

    How do you say it?

    To rhyme with helix

Feel-ix or Fee-lix are the only pronunciations I have heard.

Dammit. This is going to be like when I discovered I was saying Maisy wrong and I didn't like the name anymore

ROFL! Can I ask how you thought Maisy was prononced? I had that moment too when I realised Niamh was said 'Neem' and not 'Nee-am' I didn't like it after that either.

I say May-cee, which is really the name Macy, rather than rhyming it with Daisy, which is kind of obvious really.

*sigh* This baby better be a girl because the hunt for a boys name is killing me!!!

Well, my cousin is called felix and back home (Germany) we pronounce it Phae-liks. Because it has just one e and not too. The e is pronounced like the one in Phenomenon. You don't say fee-nomenon, do you? But then again, in English they constantly change the pronunciation of traditional names, so I guess you can really say what you want! Good Luck!

I guess I just figured they were drawing it out to fit the timing of the song...?

My DD has a friend called Niamh, and it is actually pronounced Neev. It is not phonetic at all. It is an irish name meaning 'bright'.

I always say Shi-born. Clearly I butcher names all the time

Thanks everyone for your help... I've been fixated on Felix as a name but something has never felt quite 'right' about it. And now I know everyone will pronounce it differently to me I thinkit's out. BUT I really wanted a middle name that means happy and just found out that is the meaning of Felix!! So I think it must be destined to be our son's middle name

Now to find a first name...
