So DH and I had finally come up with 2 names (1 boy and 1 girl) that we agree on (the others have been used by a cousin and good friend...)
Anyway, discussing with a guy at work what names they were thinking about (his wife is due 4 weeks after me)...AND....They have picked the same 2 names as us????
How is that possible? What are the rules here? We both just said we dont mind if our children end up with the same names because we wont be socially hanging out, but, will his wife care? What does everyone think here? Should we pick others...even though we'll have ours first?
I'd leave your names. It takes so long to decide on them. If his wife feels funny then so be it but even if you do see each other socially it doesn't sound like it would be often enough to really "worry" about anyway.
I don't think you should change them. At DFs workplace there are 3 sons all with the same name of guys in his department - they have all been born while working with the other guys. I seem to be the only one to think its weird.
There are always going to be other kids around with the same name, don't let it worry you too much!
That Is random, but the ball will be in her court if youbhave bub first andbshe has the same gender, t whether they decide to use he same name or not. What's to say that if u change yourpicks that someone closer to you could have the same name chosen anyway.
A similar thing happened to me. When I was pregnant with my twins I told a mum at the breastfeeding club (who also had twins) that my 2nd girls name was Niamh Kathryn and it turned out that was her twin daughter's name. We didn't change our name though and as it turned out we didn't need it.
doesn't matter! keep the names! i have a work friend who has a jonathan james as a son too! our sons were born before we worked together though. just coincidence!
That is random. I wouldn't change my names though. The names we choose for DS (both first & middle) are names used by coworkers of mine. DD's first name is also the name of my bosses daughter. All were choosen since I've been working here although DS's first name was a random chance as I didn't realise one co-worker had a DS with that name as she works from home & hadn't socialised with her at all.
I think there comes a time when you have to draw the line on where to stop worrying about having the same name as others around you. I understand if its family or good friends, then that's a good reason to discuss a name change, however, if its as removed as a work environment with people you aren't social with outside of work, then I'd go with what you have picked. You and your baby need to live with the name you choose for the rest of your lives. Chances are, you won't be in touch with these people for a lifetime. That's just my opinion anyway.
It happens - DD has the same name as another girl in her class this year. The name they almost picked for their DS and the one they will use for their current pg if it's a boy is the same name as we had if this bubba was a boy. (Neither completely common, at least not where we live). So we would have had two children with the same name potentially! To further complicate things, the name they've chosen if their bub is a girl is what we named our girl dog (again, not completely common, but not unknown). They also love the name we'll be using for our DD2.
Personally, I just think it means we have the same taste in names, but still random!
I ran into a friend at work, someone I know well but don't see socially. His wife was pg with their forst child. I asked if they had picked names and he looked a little sheepish. If it was a boy, the name was the same as my DS. If it was a girl (and she was) the name was the same as DD1! I felt quite flattered that they liked our names!
On the other hand, when I was pg with DD1 I was at a friends house and one of her friends, a mutual aquaintance we saw regularly although we wouldn't catch up alone, was also pg. She asked our names and when I told her our boys name she said she really liked it but hadn't ever considered it. We had a girl, she had a boy... and used 'our' name, both first and middle! Odd...
I reckon if you like the name, go for it! Neither of you are copying each other, you just both like the same name!
