Hmm, i cant tell you if its normal or not..

But the child nurse i saw the other day told me that poo that is green is from lots of iron intake. Not sure if that is at all a possibility..maybe you have had a higher intake of iron lately and its getting into bub through your milk?

Claire used to do green poo sometimes. I was also told it was due to certain foods I was eating, although to be honest I dont remember what the nurse said (she often spoke nonsense so I just switch off sometimes). I think it used to happen when I ate lots of chocolate.

it can also be from a fore/hind milk imbalance. The milk that comes initially in that big spurt is called fore milk, its watery looking, the milk that comes after, the hind milk, looks a bit like cream. its a bit thicker. lots of fore milk can cause green frothy poos. put a post in breastfeeding, and maybe barb can help?

i heard this was perfectly normal and not to worry about it. I also heard it could happen if you eat a lot of sugar.

This is all to my knowledge:
The green poo is from an inbalance of foremilk as to hindmilk.
Foremilk is high in sugar and when baby gets a lot of foremilk they will have the green poos.
My knowledge is that because of the fattier 'heavier' content of hindmilk, when they have more of it, they are kept full for longer. Do you let bub just feed off one side until he feels finished or do you change him over?
You said he feeds two hourly and mostly from both breasts - if 'you' are changing him over, he would be getting two lots of foremilk, thus explaining the green 'sugary' poos - but if he's finishing a side and then 'he' is going onto the next side, it may be something else, maybe like an intolerance etc.
If he can get more hindmilk he will also probably stay full / sleep for longer (a bonus for you!)

Obviously I'm no expert (pop into BFing Support & ask Barb Glare!!!) BUT this is all the information I was given and have found all of it to be accurate with our feeding so far.

Sounds like foremilk to me too.
I used to have a lot of trouble with DD snacking on and off due to wind. I would change sides and she would do the same. By the end of the day she was soooo full of wind from the sugary foremilk and had green or frothy poos. Also her growth slowed. To fix it I just burped her and kept putting her back to the same side till it was totally drained before giving the other side. I find often she only wants the one side when I do this as the hind milk is filling her up better. She now sleeps much longer and is far less windy. Also no more green poos unless we are out and she is distracted while feeding and therefore snacking.

I think if you try this method you should find he sleeps for longer between feeds, has less wind, grows heavier faster, is more content. It may take a couple of days to fix as your supply has been stimulated by the frequent feeding and changing sides so that you are producing more foremilk than you actually need. Your body should accomodate within a day or two.
