Hi there,
my little boy seems to be getting hiccups at least once daily.... mostly after feeds, but sometimes when I just lay him down.
I am wondering how common this is? Is it just a wind issue? is he sucking down my milk too fast and being a little pig?? This would explain his mega weight gain hehe.
If this is common, how long does it continue for?
It doesnt seem to annoy him at all, and he usually can fall asleep whilst hiccuping, I just dont remember hearing much about it.
Thanks

HI there- congratulations onf the birth of Lachlan!
Isabelle got hiccups once a day when I was pg and she still gets them now also at least once a day although its seems she got them more when she was a bit younger! Im sure its pretty common but Im not sure what its from. I find that I dont worry about it unless she is about to go have a nap and i know it will keep her up so I put her back on the bb for about a minute to get rid of them! HtH!
Hi there, Charlie still gets them that often too. Sometimes they just come out of nowhere! They usually don't bother bubs, I was actually told once that when they have the hiccups it means they are "thriving"...don't know how true that is. As said above if you can actually feed them when they have the hiccups (which I never knew) and this should get rid of them.
I think some kids just do and some don't! Louis had them in my tummy heaps and once he was born but Dylan doesn't have them so much...
I wouldn't stress!
We had hiccups at least daily before birth and sometimes more than daily now.
Quite often happens after a feed. Midwives told me not to worry about it and that it was just his diaphragm working out?? To me it looks like he is giving himself little cardiac compressions 'cause he's little ribs move so much.
xavier is un-cooperative if I try to feed him when he has the hiccups, so I rest him on my chest and rub his back.
I think the feeding and the rubbing etc, just relaxes them, and eventually the hiccups go away, Isn't that kind of how we get rid of hiccups, relax, and concentrate on something else??
Fantastic that he can still fall asleep with them! wow. Wish my Laila could do that. I'm sure they will decrease in frequency over the next few months..although we are still waiting here lol
Sebastian gets them too, at least once a day, sometimes more often and most commonly in the middle of a feed (ie after one side, while I am changing his nappy and before the other side) or up to about half an hour after a feed. He won't sleep while he has them and wakes up if they start after a feed. Like the others said, feeding them helps get rid of them, so I just whack him back on the breast and they go away. It's quite funny actually because they are sometimes quite violent - like full body hiccups but I know they don't hurt him so I just have a chuckle.
