How much do you spend on a 1st birthday

Ive possibly gone overboard but its all stuff he will need anyway,
Ive gotten him a thomas bed (2ndhand) $80, thomas couch $65, Massive thomas toy box $200, Toy car $25 & a couple of little tonkas for $10 so for a grand total of $380 plus he is having a big party

do you think ive gone crazy, It wasnt intetional I just got carried away I think, on average how much do you spend on your childs 1st birthday.

Yeah, I think you have gone a bit crazy! LOL! We spent about ... $200? Ok, maybe we also spent too much. It was probably closer to $300 now that I think of it. Oh no! I'll try better next year.

Hmm I am sitting here unable to remember what I bought for his birthday but I know a bough a fair bit but probably not as much as at Christmas (which was his 2nd)

For DS's 1st birthday we got him some 'essentials' - clothing etc that he needed and that no-one else would buy.
Probably spent about $50..... Family spoilt him rotten with the toys, which he barely glanced at. He spent the whole day besotted with a balloon.
DS wont be getting a party until he is at least 5. Nothing against parties, but personally i don't think it is worth the effort when they are so young - don't think they can really appreciate it iykwim?
For his 1st and 2nd b'day we just had immediate family from mine and DH's sides, so DS had his cousins to play with, but no friends. We ordered a whole heap of pizzas and sat on a picnic rug in the park. The hardest thing I did was make a cake. We had no lollies, party-food etc as he is not allowed that yet so there was no point tempting him! All the mess went in the bin (disposable plates etc) and we had a clean house to come home to.

But hey, if you are keen on a party then go for it. I look forward to going all out for party-mode in future (i think...)

My poor little guy hardly got anything....cos he didn't need anything so close after Christmas, and because we are having all our stuff go into storage in a few weeks for a couple of months and I didn't really see the point.
He got a doona cover for his bed and a few books and little toys.

Totally get what you mean, I think its more of a social thing for the parent maybe its selfish but its not often I get all my friends together so meh Im excited LOL.

He is actually having 2 parties, one at home and one down in traralgon which is where im from so my family & friends down there dont miss out

For first birthdays we always got a piece of furniture for them - toy boxes and table and chair sets etc so it was more expensive than just buying a toy but more practical I think kwim?

DS's first birthday... I did a tea-party for family. That was maybe £20 for all the food and ingredients.

For presents, I think maybe another £20. He had a cotbed and sheets for that, so we didn't need that. He already had clothes, as I pick them up in sales when I see them. I think I got him maybe a book or two and a nice wooden toy. Oh yes, it was a counting and colours type thing.

I don't go overboard for birthdays/Christmas. Everyone else does. Liebling doesn't need presents from me on his birthday: he needs them in July when no-one bothers getting him gifts! I do gifts all year round when he needs them, just cos there doesn't need to be a reason.

i dont think there is such a thing as too much. if you want to spoil your little one then you should and no one can tell you otherwise. What you bought sounds great and i bet your little one will be so excited

like LZ, a lot of things DD needs won't be given to her for her bday - she'll ge them as she needs them - so we may spend more through the year and less at her bday

Briggsy you so just justified what I spent woo hoo thanks LOL makes me feel a bit better, I so felt like I was going overboard.

I had intentions of buying a ton of clothes coz he literally had 1 outfit that fitted him, when I got warrnambool I went and seen my good friend rainbowraver and left her place with 3 garbage bags full of logans size 1's Im so greatfull, and logie has some gorgeus stuff
