Unhappy 6 1/2 month old driving me insane!!!

Well, my DS for the last 6 weeks has been so unpleasant and I dont know why!! There are no signs that he is sick, he has a bit of excema and little bit of nappy rash but I don't think that is causing his behaviour. Thought it might be teething but there is not signs of teeth and he isnt dribbling or chewing everything. Every time he is awake during the day, I will put him down to play with his toys but as soon as I walk away he will cry, he isnt interested in toys for long so I give him a bottle which he holds himself but when he has had enough he is crying again. I think maybe I am in his face too much and he has gotten used to playing with me but even when I do play with him after a few minutes he will cry. He is such a handful and I dont know if he is being normal. The other babies in my mothers group are happy to play on the mat with toys or sit and look at everyone but my DS will cry and squirm and be so awful that I have to leave. Am I going to have one of those horrible children that I cant take anywhere?? The only help I have in town is my motherinlaw who most of the time is busy so when DS cries, I either end up crying myself or just let him cry until he screams and is out of breath which is about 3 times a day.He likes riding in the car but we only have one that my DH takes to work and the weather here is horrible so I cant even take out the pram. HELP! I am not enjoying him at all right now!!!Secretly wanting to give him away until he grows up a bit

    Thanks for your reply,
Yes! he is a VERY chucky baby, he even chucks up his solids so I guess it may be reflux. maybe thats why he is happier sitting in the pram or car. I took him to the hospital a few days ago because I thought his nappy rash was causing all of this but apperantly not. The nurse did look down his throat and said it looked a bit red then said he might be coming down with something which I knew he wasnt, could the redness be a sign?? What is UTI?

    Hi Shelley,

Im just wondering if theres anything that he's eating that may not be agreeing with him? That may explain the nappy rash and perhaps an upset tummy.
With the red throat, maybe he has had a bit of a sore throat. Would explain why it seems so painful for him to drink his bottle. The weather lately i dont think is doing anyone any good. Jesse just looked off for a few days the past week, was crying, clingy and whingy. He didnt have a runny nose or anything, and until i took him to the doctor to get checked out, i didnt realise he actually had an ear infection. Its just so hard when they cant tell you whats wrong with them.

Regarding the seperation anxiety, perhaps thats just what it is. Around and from this age, some and most bubs go through something similar. Jesse started at 4 months old. If anyone other that DH or i made eye contact with him he'd cry. And then since about 7 months, if he saw me walk out of the room, he'd cry also. Its just them realising that they are a seperate person to you. But it does get better :hugs:

Jesse was also a chucka. After each bottle, would always bring a good amount up. The same went with the solids. I covered our floor with an old sheet. He continued putting on weight so i didnt worry too much. And it wasnt until he started sitting up unaided for a while that it stopped.

I mean all these reasons may not be the answer, it may be reflux, but id probably personally get it diagnosed before you put him on AR formula. It is quite thick and you dont want it upsetting his tummy more. So what id do, is just take a trip to your GP. Im surprised the hospital didnt give you some antibiotics if she thought he had a sore throat.

We all go through something similar. I had so many days i was pulling my hair out with Jesse. Its just so hard when they cant talk to you and tell you whats wrong. Just hang in there, there is a light at the end of the tunnel :hugs:

Well, I went to the doctor to check for reflux and I ended up walking out in tears. My doctor really doesn't seem to care, I feel like he thinks Im stupid and wasting his time. All he said was "babies only have reflux when they are a few weeks old" I never get any clear answers from him (im glad DS chucked twice on the floor in the surgery!) anyway I was feeling so upset!
I have tried to avoid taking DS to the doctors as much as I can because I know he is just going to tell me nothing is wrong. I can't change doctors either because the others arent taking on new patients in this small health service lacking town!
On the up side DS cut his first tooth 2 days later so maybe that was why, though I still wonder about the reflux.

oh shelley im so sorry you have such an awful uncaring GP! My son is 165 months and still has reflux! Take him to another doctor, my GP sent us to emergency when DS was 4 months old and after numerous tests they worked out it was reflux! Please take him to see another dr until you get some answers, it really sounds as if the poor baby is in pain!

You have said that you cant take himto another doctor???? Either be really stronga nd tell the receptionist that you think bub may have reflux and your dr wont listen and demand she book you into another dr or is there a hospital you can take him too??

Maybe ring a parent helpline like Karitane and chat to them about it, or call Child and Youth Health and tell them whats been happening with bub?

GL i really hope you keep bugging the drs til you get some help for yourself and bub, it took me 12 months to start enjoying my son because of reflux, i hope you can start enjoying your son sooner, big hugs
