    Thanks everyone.

Ausgirl, we have a warm bath every night, I might have to go back to stewed apples I think. They usualy do the trick. I stopped the anticeptic cream (I used the bepanthen one which is what most of my friends recommended-we normally use the zinc and castor oil one). Today I mixed vaseline with a bit of cornflour, so far so good.

Liz, OMG that sounds so awful! Your poor DD2! I'm glad it cleared up in the end. I did find the paw paw ointnent fairly good (there is the cream and the ointment, we used the ointment as it says it's for nappy rash, burns etc)

I'll ask about the Daktozin Taurean at the docs today. I really hope it clears up soon, it's a little bit better today but not much, but he will let me put the cream on which is a big bunus as yesterday he was kicking and screaming like a banshee.

A good natural barrier cream is Green ridge calendula ointment. You get it from the health food shop. I used it on DS when he has nappy rash from diarrhoe.. Everyone kept telling me to use zinc etc, but I didn't and this worked.. It is great stuff!

We use Daktozin on DD1 as well Beata. She gets hideous nappy rash. The pharmacist told me to use it and apply it twice a day for 2 weeks after the rash has cleared. We always would use it for a few days and then go back to normal cream as soon as she cleared up, but since doing this, she has been much better.

Can he stay home with a bare bum?
I'd let the air dry out all that moisture and then give your DS a soothing oatmeal bath and do the nappy routine for night time (powder, cream etc etc)

If my bum was red raw, I would want nothing on it at all, but fresh air.
    xx

Thanks for your great suggestions ladies. The doc told me to use the Daktozin cream and to do heaps of nappy free time which we do anyway. The reddness is getting better, at least he's letting me near his bum again. She said is was probably from an acidic poo which would make sense, as we always change his nappy a gazillion times a day, it never gets a chance to get really wet. I hope the cream will improve the reddness quickly.
