why oh why oh why!
the other day i was in the shower when dp got home from work, i asked him to make hannah some dinner. he said sure, went to the fridge and said there is no baby food left, what should i get her. i ignored him to see if he could figure it out himself....do you think he could... NO!!! he said there is nothing, there is nothing, i finally suggested, sausages, brocoli, potato, carrot, chicken tenderloins!!!!!! all items of food, mind you, that we have given her many times before!!! ARGH!

just tonight, i went to the gym for an hour and asked him to give her a bath cause she was hot and sweaty and stinky.... got home and he was putting her to bed, her hair tied up, clothes from today on... and said 'i forgot'!!!

i know he loves her and does a lot of good things for her and me, but sometimes i just wish i didnt have to spell everything out and write lists for him!

now i feel guilty for having a *****!
can anyone else relate?

Me! Me! Me!
I know my DH loves DD beyond words - but why is it so hard to get him to do stuff????????? I can't remember the last time he gave her a bath, or changed her nappy, or fed her.... he only gets up at night if I (literally) kick him out of bed. But he adores her and plays some great games with her. It would just be nice if I didn't have to ask him to do stuff... like the bottles tonight. And WHY am I the only one to pack her bag for Child Care? Or get her ready in the morning? Every morning the alarm goes off and I get out of bed and in the shower whilst HE sleeps in for another 10 minutes. He gets out JUST as I turn off the water!!!! THEN he irons his clothes, goes to the toilet (sorry, TMI), has his shower and puts his bag together. In the meantime, I've made him breakfast, me breakfast, packed my bag, finished packing DD's bag, eaten breakfast, gotten DD up, dressed her, fed her and am STILL waiting by the door for him!!!!! GGGGGGRRRRRRR.

the worst bit is that they complain that we are nagging or treating them like morons if we spell it out for them, but when we don't they seem to be completely incapable of doing even the most basic things on their own.

Now I have to say my DH is a darling but something he did twice helps me relate.
Instead of a singlet we use a small undersuit under a jumpsuit or pants etc. After bathing DS he puts the same undersuit on but different clothes on top?!? After all of the trouble to strip and bath him and then to put on the same suit he was in before? weird.

My DH is wonderful, but wouldn't have a clue what to do with the kids! And don't get me started about cooking! When I was in hospital with Nic, I was worried about what he would feed the girls. I wrote up lists everywhere - what day they had sport, what day was library day, what they liked in their lunch boxes etc, but he forgot anyway. As for their lunches, he forgot to pack them at all! He ended up having to go down to the shops and buying them something and taking it up to the school! Thank god he didn't tell me this until after I was home and settled with the new baby!!

I understand where everyone is coming from. Men can't seem to use thier initiative. If DS wakes while I am in the shower and DH is watching tv, he seems to wait until he hears me open the bathroom door before he jumps up and goes to get DS after I have heard him crying for 5 mins. He also asks me to wait until DS is asleep before I leave the house to duck to the shops!! And why do they asume play time with bub is putting them infront of the tv while they watch thier action flicks?

my suggestion - you should grab a few girlfriends and go away somewhere nice for the weekend, and leave your hubbys/partners with the kid(s) to figure it out!! (i did this last weekend, first time ever since my 15mth DS was born, and it was fabulous. hubby did a fantastic job at home too - i think when we are not there, they just have to work things out and survive!).

After reading all these replies, just goes to prove what an amazing, multitasking, infinitely patient and selfless creature a Mother is. We're part of a very special club, ladies :P

We understand. If I left the organising of DS's bag for the next day poor DS would prolly leave the house naked and without food. Not to say DH doesn't love DS to bits, just seems like irrelevant stuff like clothing and food can be purchased upon arrival at the destination.

When DH gets up to DS on Saturday mornings (he gets up on Saturdays so I can sleep in and I get up on Sundays so he can sleep in) he is soooooooooooo grumpy and professes to be sooooo tired all day. The only time he gets up all week (I would probably get up about 5 times a night as DS's sleeping patterns have gone all scewed since I went back to work). All I can do to keep my mouth from blurting what my sarcastic brain is thinking is walk out of the room.
