i was worried about DD2 waking DD1, which she did at first, but she got used to it and rearly wakes now!! their rooms are right next to each other and DD1's door is open!, they do adjust!
DS2 is 4 months old and currently sleeps in our room in his bassinette both overnight and for his day sleeps.
Problem is, he's growing out of it at an alarming rate and I think at most we may have a few more weeks before he can no longer sleep in it.
So my dilemna....
He has his own room at the other end of the house with his cot in it. It is next door to his 2 year old brother.
I am very reluctant to put him in his own room for a few reasons:
1) He wakes at least twice a night for feeds and I don't want him waking his brother up;
2) His room is literally at the other end of the house and even though I have an Angel Care monitor, I worry about him being that far away. He just seems too little
3) I'm lazy and don't want to be trudging to the other end of the house to feed him and settle him every night. At the moment I just pick him up, feed him in bed and then pop him back in his bassinette.
Our bedroom is quite big so I'm hoping that his cot will fit in there. If it does, then we'll move his cot in and he'll stay in with us. I think...
But what if it doesn't?? What would you do??

Well, here's hoping the cot fits first!
DD has been in her own room since birth and it's right to the boy's room. She doesn't wake them up overnight at all. K never woke Joel up either when he was a bub and was in the room next to Joel. Kids can sleep through all that stuff!
Good luck, I hope the cot fits and you don't need to worry about anything else!
Hope the cot fits hun....what about just the cot matress on the floor? Ds1 slept ona matress for a little while...our room barely fits out bed in at the momet!
I dont think he will wake anyone up...We are all in one room at the moment and Ds1 is never woken by Ds2
Good luck hun xx
I guess I'm paranoid about it cause when DS1 was born he did wake DD up.
I was hoping to keep him in our room till he started sleeping through...goodness knows when that will happen
Amber - Cot mattress wouldn't work, he's rolling too much already. He could quite easily roll off it.
The other thing is his bedroom gets quite hot whilst ours is at the back of the house off the lounge room where our a/c is so it's a lot easier to cool our room than his.
I'm going to measure it up today, DH keeps insisting it won't fit. I think he just wants me to put him in his own room cause he's under the illusion that will improve our..ahem...intimate relationship
The other option would be to move our computer desk out of our bedroom and put it in his room to make more space...which I would hate but he wouldn't be sleeping in there anyway.

I'd be moving the cot lol but that's just me.... Oskar slept in our room until he was 2 1/2 then decided he could sleep in his own room in his big boy bed and he's been there ever since. Elijah is now in the cot next to me.... I'm guessing though that he'll decide to "move out" earlier so he can sleep with his big bro.
Hun, if it were me I'd be trying really hard to move the cot, for all the reasons you've listed. I totally get where you're coming from, after all the sleep issues you've had with DS1
angel that he is
. And the distance would be a deal breaker for me too.
Will moving him help your 'intimate' relationship? I know it wouldn't have helped mine, in fact DS's sleep was sooooo much worse when he went into his own room. Things were significantly less 'intimate' then
. Will your DH change his mind if he knows that things won't necessarily be better? LOL, sorry!
I'd do what ever you have to do to make that cot fit lol! Shift your bed against the wall...wardrobe...whatever...make it fit! I have loved having A in our room...just hearing her little noises and breathing is so comforting for a stress head like me! Seriously though...my girlfriend had the same issue so they took the side off the cot and had it right up against her side of the bed if that makes sense? Worked for them...so hope it fits for you![]()
we don't have a huge bedroom - but when it came to the point that DD needed to use her cot, we made it fit. means we have a small walkway now, and DH has a few issues getting to his tallboy - but it gives us comfort knowing she's there (esp seeing she is waking a lot at the moment!)
i'd make the effort to get him into your room - the last thing i would be trying, if you don't want to disturd your other DS, is to transition from bassinet to cot and from your room to another at the same time - you'll have more issues that way
we moved the drawers out of our room to fit the cot in. I didn't think it fair to move DS out just cause he is too big for the bassinette.
We have a bed for DD in there to, not that she sleeps in it thoughShe always ends up in our bed.
So our room has beds and nothing else. And if we want intimate time, we use the spare room![]()
No more spare rooms here!
DD was in our room in her bassinette till 6 months then she moved into her cot in her bedroom which was next to ours. We lived in a unit then and could easily hear her during the night.
With DS1 he was in his own room and his cot by 8 weeks because he just slept better in there (as Janie said, we've had our fair share of sleeping issues with him) BUT we also moved in to the spare room next to him so I was very close by and felt comfortable with that....we stayed there for 10 months!
That's not an option this time, the spare room is DS2s room now.
I think we'll need to move my bedside table out (and put it where I have no idea!) but the cot should fit...we'll soon see!!
Janie - Figured you'd understand, thanks! L is such an awesome sleeper now that I don't want to do anything to rock the boat!
I'd try to make the cot fit too - for all the reasons you listed. I would feel the same way. I have currently a 9 year old, 2 year old, Gloria the maltese/****zu & occassionally a 5 year old all in my room/bed. So, you can tell I am not one to ask for advice to move them out!!!
I hope the cot fits my love. I have actually been known to purchase a smaller cot so that I can make it work!Or you could use a portacot?
I was going to suggest the portacot too and do day sleeps in his room. Not that I am much help - we are all in the same room still![]()
When I decided to move DD into her room and in her cot (she was about your DS's age) I went and bought a single foam mattress from fantastic furniture (was about $50, light weight and actually pretty comfortable) and I slept on the floor in DD's room.
Then I was right there if she woke, I was there to help her adjust into a new room and although we had a few tough weeks, she now self- settles and sleeps right through 12 hours a night.
So I suppose that is another option if the cot is not going to fit (but only if you can fit a single mattress on the floor in DS's room)!![]()
Oooooh - portacot at night and his room for day sleeps could totally work if his cot doesn't fit!!!
Oh my goodness, I feel so much better knowing that I have a plan B. I can't believe I didn't think of the portacot...der
Thanks girls![]()
Darl we were in the same spot a few months ago. Our DS sleeps in our room and boy is that cot a tight fit. I basically have to climb over our bed to get and out but it is worth it. We ahve exactly the same list of problems/concerns as you. When DS is only waking for one feed we will move him. I'm going to set up the portacot in his room soon for day sleeps so DD can get used to him crying when he wakes up and having him so close by. I won't be too stressed if she is woken from her day sleeps and it give her the opportunity to get used to it. Plus it also give DS a chance to get used to his room and only having his day sleeps possibly disrupted. So hopefully when we move him into his room they will both be used to it. Hopefully somewhere in that dribble you got some tips if the cot doesn't fit. Good luck!!
DD2 has been in my room since day 1, first in my bed then into the cot. Its been great.
Just recently its come to a point where I want to move her out cause she gets to distracted from sleep if she hears me in the night lol.
But it was so much easier to have her there, settling, feeding, all of that, plus I found I was more relaxed cause I knew she was safe next to me.
