I had both my DD's ears peirce at 5mths of age. Never had any issues with infection, and now they are getting older they love putting in nice earrings for special occasions! Good luck with your decision!

A friend of mine had her DD done at 5 months. She has a 2nd DD now, but I haven't seen them for a few months, so I don't know if she's had her done yet.

I had my girls done when they were 2 for their birthdays. They both wanted them though. They might not have under stood what they were, but they did ask for them. I was 3, my sister was 4 & my SIL was 7. DH got them for her b'day.

Find somewhere that will do both ears at the same time. DD1 had both at the same time, DD2 had them seperately. At the same time was easier. I got DD1 done over on the coast at a hair dresser easily, but when I tried for DD2 there was not 1 place in Dubbo that did kids under 5. We ended up going to an adult shop & I had to sign a permission form as she was under 18.

Neither of my girls touched theirs for a few weeks after anyway coz they were scared to hurt them. By the time they were better the novelty was over, so we had no infections.

Thanks everyone... I guess i have alot to think about. Again really hope that i havent upset anyone by asking....

I just though i'd rather avoid all the infections and issues by getting them done early... i dont think they look trashy but then again i wouldnt be going over the top with massive earings... just small sleepers or little studs perhaps...

Bjrose- thanks for the tip about getting both done at the same time. will keep that in mind.

I was thinking of getting mine done a second time when and if i get hers done also but now not really sure what to do about it... thanks again for all the replies

I am really glad you asked Jess. I hadn't given it much thought before and it is really good to see how different people approach the issue

I think that if you want them done it's better to get them done early - before they can fiddle with them.

I had Tiana's done when she was 9 weeks old. I knew I wanted to get them done young so she didnt play with them. They didn't get infected and she now doesn't even worry about them. She only cried when we held her head still - she didn't like to be restrained. Once we let her go she calmed pretty much straight away.

The only thing is you may have trouble finding someone to do them. Cosmetics plus did Tianas and it cost $20 including the piercing studs and two people did it so both ears were done at the same time. With the earrings though I have found it is easier to leave piercing studs in. She tended to lose any other earrings and I worried about her accidently pulling sleepers out if her finger got caught. The studs come in lots of pretty colours though!

My mum got the twins done at four months to help tell them apart as she still hadnt taken their hospital bracelets off and they were getting scummy lol. Theyre now nine months and no problems.
