When to pierce my baby girl ears???

I had Tiana's done when she was 9 weeks old. I knew I wanted to get them done young so she didnt play with them. They didn't get infected and she now doesn't even worry about them. She only cried when we held her head still - she didn't like to be restrained. Once we let her go she calmed pretty much straight away.

The only thing is you may have trouble finding someone to do them. Cosmetics plus did Tianas and it cost $20 including the piercing studs and two people did it so both ears were done at the same time. With the earrings though I have found it is easier to leave piercing studs in. She tended to lose any other earrings and I worried about her accidently pulling sleepers out if her finger got caught. The studs come in lots of pretty colours though!

My mum got the twins done at four months to help tell them apart as she still hadnt taken their hospital bracelets off and they were getting scummy lol. Theyre now nine months and no problems.

I wasnt allowed to get my ears pierced until i was 16... Mum and Dad gave in when i was about 12 (but my YOUNGER sister was allowed to get hers done on the same day grrh)

We have decided that we are going to wait until Molly Jane can ask and give us a reason (not just cos) any reason, even if its because they are pretty... we figure then she will be old enough and be able to understand the pain and also be responsible for them... Thats what we are doing

Friends of mine had her boys (single ear) done at about 2 years with the oldest and i think the younger one was about 6 mths with his, neiter had problems.

I thing really, you need to do it when you and your DP are feel that its right... FWIW i am a terrible fiddler and even at the age of 12 i wouldnt leave them alone, pain tends to stop the fiddling for the first little while thou.

I rang around few places... No age limits that i have found... 1 place said their gun was a bit big for little lobes but said they could use a special piercing needle... I'm not going for that option.

Another place said they prefer doing 1 side at a time as its more accurate... Cost about $30 bucks... Incl earings...

Cookiemonster... i could picture me looking at hossy tags also if i had identical twins...

My sister and I got our ears pierced at a very very young age (only a couple of months) and guess how they did it?

Using a sewing needle sterilised with a flame!

It was more of a cultural thing for us to get our ears pierced so young.

Oh and my ear hole is still centred, no infection as well.

Personally, I think diamond studs look good on a baby/toddler girl (at least it will stop people from from saying that my DD is such a gorgoeous BOY!)

We just had our youngest daughters ears pierced on Saturday, she's just over 2 years old. Both our older girls were done roughly about the same age (done at the same time - oldest daughter is 10 months older). No probs except with the oldest who, once the first one was done took another 3 hours before we convinced her to have the second!!! Looking back I don't regret it at all, would have even done it earlier, just didn't get around to it. I too, recommend sticking with studs if you can, but just be careful that the back doesn't slip forward as it can become really tight on the ear IYKWIM? We've had this happen a few times with my older girls (usually with cheap earrings that they've received as gifts though).

I have wanted to get dd's ears pierced since before she was 1! just never got around to it!

i plan to take her in the next couple of weeks, ill also get another set done for myself while im there!

I got my ears pierced at 6 months old. Holes are still centred. I nenver really paid much attention to them.

My mum got my sister's kids done recently. The eldest was 8 and she was able to look after them beautifully. She loves putting in other earrings when she goes out. The middle girl was 4 and she can be difficult when she doesn't get her own way. She threw a tantrum about 2 months after and took the earrings out. The holes closed over before anyone noticed. She has been told that she won't get then redone until she is older. The youngest was 3 and she loves them. Calls them "her pretties". None of the kids got infections or anything.

We'll i have decided that if i'm getting DD's done that i too will get the second set done... That way i know how she's feeling. Thanks so much for everyones opinions sounds like there is good arguments for both sides and DP and i need to sit down and work out what were going to do. Thanks again.

Also do you recommend the surgical steel studs or the 14k gold ones??? The place i rang said there the best 2 options to go for??? can u buy earings to use in the guns or do u need the prepacked sterile ones??? i noticed they come in the surgical steel and gold but not sure if they are gold plated or the 14k gold???

Yeh totally a personal choice.

My mum chose to let me choose when or if i wanted to have mine done. I had them done when i was 8 years old. I'll be doing the same with Keira.

i had my eyebrow pierced with a needle and have had a number of holes in my ears with the gun. The needle was much less painful and less of a shock than the gun. I would go the needle if i ever get another piercing.

Not sure how they would go doing two at the same time though!
