My baby just accidently got the flu shot!

My bestfriend's son had the flu shot before it was banned and he had a little bit of a temp but was fine only lasted a few hours.

DD had a half dose of the shot before it was banned, she had a slight temp but nothing else, and is completely fine. Like the nurse said keep an eye on her temp and keep up with the panadol

It's the children that are susceptible to febrile convulsions that are most at risk. Keep on top of the Panadol and if her temp rises take her to the hospital immediately. The child that died has found to have been from another cause, but the health officials still take it seriously and that is why they have put the ban on until they can have all the finding from the past 3 years of clinical trials in WA. Doesn't mean we should all run out to get flu shots for our under 5's but it doesn't mean we should panic either

Watch her temperature, have some paracetamol on hand, and if her temperature starts to head north, take her to your local ED to be assessed.

And you should probably report this to someone as well - that is a major mistake for a GP to make. They need to tighten up their procedures, pronto.

No they were in WA because that was where the clinical trials were, alot of the media reports are old cases that are coming out now.

Just wanted to add; I actually have the email released from the AMA regarding the suspension of this immunisation. It has been advised to cease this immunisation in under 5's whilst they investigate the cause. At the time of the email being written, it was unknown if the number of children presenting with adverse side effects (especially febrile convulsions) was elevated or within the usual spectrum of adverse reactions. Remember that it is always a risk a person will react to any medication or vaccine. We hope that it doesn't happen but unfortunately, some people do react. In relation to the recent cases reported via the media, it may be that it appears there is an increase because they are being presented via the media. The AMA is investigating the data to see if there is infact an elevation in the number of adverse reactions being reported.

I am in no way down playing the seriousness of an adverse reaction (my personal and professional stance is quiet the opposite), however I do urge people to wait and see the outcome of this investigation.

I am deeply saddened and concerned that your DD has been given the wrong vaccination Fi. I would suggest enquiring with the clinic to find out what they intend to do about this and, personally, I would be reporting it to the relevant authority. If the GP gave it, the Medical Board in your State and also the College of General Practitoners. If it was the Nurse, I'd be reporting it to the Nurses Board. As Schmickers said, it is a VERY serious issue.

Just keep an eye on your DD over the next 24 hours and if you are at ALL concerned, pop into your local ED and explain what has happened and ask them to look her over.

My SIL's little one had the flu shot last week before the ban, she is fine.
As the nurse said, just keep an eye on her and give her extra feeds and panadol if she has a fever
