oh wow, i think a homebirth with no medical staff, no midwife, is that what is termed a "free birth"?

how amazing! nine months to make, one hour to exit!

    one hour, freak me out!

congrats hon, rest up to recover your strength, when you're ready, would love to hear all about it hon!

    congrats big brother River!

    Aww thanks so much guys!

It's been a full on couple of days, an hour long labour and Rans catching was really the easy part.

I did panic at the 30 min mark as I headed to the shower thinking that if the next few hours were going to be that intense I couldn't do it, but cheered up when I felt a head and needed to push soon after.
Was great to have Rans to catch, and Coby to tell the ambos (who were great) what to do and explain everything to me later to help me debrief.

But yeah, placenta troubles, still contracting cos of membranes stuck in the uterus, blood gushing out each contraction, disappointment that the ambulance didn't use sirens (still was my first ambo trip though!), only minor tear that needed stitches, being poked and prodded, membranes being cut out of me, heaps of people consulting here and there, being separated from Silas (understandable, but set us back with breastfeeding), a bung taking heaps of gos to get put in cos of my blood loss, very unsettled first night.
And then needing a transfusion, one bung causing tissuing in my arm (very very owie) so needing another put in, pediatrictions checking out abnormalities in Si (he's okay), and troubles with breastfeeding because it's tricky to feed with a bung and tubes in the way!

I really think it was tough because one thing would happen, we'd work through it and be fine, and then something else would go wrong - I just started to get really negative and think 'well what next'.

But I had lovely support, Rans and Coby were great, mum and dad have River and bring him for visits, and the midwives were really great, they spared one student middy for me in particular who was a good help in terms of tricking Silas into opening his mouth wider for b/fing.

So yeah, got back home this arvo, and here's hoping that it's smoother sailing from here on in!

Oh, and his middle name's Lane, so it's Silas Lane.

Thanks again, it's so nice to come home after such a big drama and see how much you guys care, it's really lovely. You're all so cool. xo
