    Lightbulb I can't imagine...

...giving birth in the afternoon. Bear with me on this one

I was just reading a few birth stories on another site, and one had a small line in it about how the baby was born in the middle of the day, and the sun was shining through the window, blah blah blah. Then I realised I couldn't even conjure up a mental image of it. The concept of labouring and birthing in the middle of the day, with sun streaming into the room is so foreign to me that I can't even imagine it. Both times I've given birth, I laboured at night (or at least late afternoon, inside with no light) and birthed in the morning.

Not really sure what the point of this was, just wanted to share. What kind of imagery is strange to you in birth, and do you think it will happen to you? I know when I was pregnant with Amelia, the thought of having a live baby was weird, however possible...

LOL! The thought of going into labour at night and making the phone call to my parents to let them know is super weird to me because both my girls have come spontaneously during the day - sun blaring through the windows and all!

    I've had a
    10am
    11am
    7pm
    10pm

The 11am one my waters broke at 6am waking me up.

While 10pm isn't the middle of the night, we left hospital at midnight, so I sort of feel I've covered all time slots

Water birth Gets me. I can imagine how beautiful it could be but can't imagine I'd do it ???

Mine have both been evening/night, but with dd it started at night and went until the next night, so yes I labored with the sun shining. Ds it was all under cover of darkness.

I also can't imagine a water birth. I LOVE the idea, but when I'm birthing, I just need to be on the ground with people close by. I might try again for my last baby

ds was born at 5.46pm & dd at 5.57pm.

ds was induced so i was in hospital from the start but the idea of having to do the dash to the hospital was weird - esp the thought of having to drive when there was traffic etc. with dd i was in labour for a while & it was weird to be having contractions & watching the sun come up. then we had to do the drive to hospital at 1.30 on a saturday afternoon.

having a baby in the middle of the night or at sunrise seems strange - like something you see on tv but doesnt really happen!!

    I've had a 1:30pm, 9:00am, 8:00pm, 11:50pm, 8:15pm and 4:45am. Round the clock birthing.

Water birth is WONDERFUL! Give it a shot! I've laboured in water 3 times, delivered there twice.

I can't imagine.... hmmmm.... being stitched after birth. OUCH! Never torn badly enough to need stitches, but the after birth "check" is bad enough. I think I'd kick my midwife's teeth out.

Don't quote me (actually Never quote me!) but i think there is some information about it being more common to labour in the evening or early morning and it's not just humans that do it. There's a reason but i can't remember. Perhaps it safer from predators?

    Gee, vague much!

I can't imagine inviting half of the world to the birth - mum's, sister's, friend's, photographers... Or having a bunch of people knowing I was in labour or waiting in the delivery room. The first our families know about the birth is an hour or so after it is all done and we have time to ring them.

I also can't imagine a land birth (even though I have had one), standing, moving around etc. I am drawn to the water during labour, all I want to do is lay down in a nice warm bath with no intrusion.

DD was born at 7.50pm and DS at 1.07am, and i loved having the night just for us to recover and meet the new little person. I can't imagine having a morning baby and having to keep people away (just grandparents, but ya know) for a full day or share that special time with others.

Now, having had a waterbirth, i couldn't imagine not having a pool, bath, pond to birth in.

9:35am labouring overnight and a c/s scheduled and he arrived at 12:05pm! On a side note I can't image DS's 39 cm head or DDs for that matter coming outta my vagina but that's a whole nutha kettle of fish

I gave birth at 3.30am, loved that time for a hospital birth, as has been said, I got a rest and a chance for DH and I to have DD all to ourselves

I'd love to give birth during the day this time. At home, summer, birth pool..sounds good to me!

What can't I imagine? Probably having an epidural, or a c/s. I have no idea how I'd cope with the latter if it ever arose because I honestly can't visualise it.

I can't imagine having a scheduled c/sect. I just can't visualise how I would work up to that moment, knowing when it was going to happen and that I'd be having my baby via an operation. I'd be freaking out I think! Just the idea of an epidural scares me! Needles in my spine and not being able to move my body, but being awake! I can't really imagine it.

I also can't imagine knowing the gender of the baby. It seems weird to me knowing what they are before they pop out... just can't quite picture the feeling.

I really wanted to have my babies with the sun blasting on my face and closed eyelids. That's how I always imagine birth but I've happily been in darkened rooms both times

MY first was born at 1.20pm after labour started at about 2am. It was the middle of summer and I thought it was lovely. Next one was born at 7.50am after labour started around midnight. Having a baby just after dawn was pretty cool - new day new baby and all that. The next two were born at 8.30 and 9pm and I much preferred my day-born babies because I could spend all day just looking at them and holding them and getting to know them, but with the night born ones it was all 'try and get some sleep'. We only ever had SIL come and visit just after DD1 was born - we are very close and we wanted her to come and see her new neice straight away and she lived in the town where I gave birth so it was easy. SIL and DD1 are very close as well.

I can't imagine a roadside baby. Pretty much anything else I think I could handle, but that freaks me right out.

Incidentally, DD was born at 3.13pm and DS at 9.17pm - much prefer my night time baby, somehow rellies got the idea (I blame XP) that it'd be ok for them to rock up sort of 4-5pm to see the baby. I was still stoned from peth and exhausted darn it!

No kidding! The midwives and DH are plenty in the room, thank you very much!

I've always wondered about giving birth during the day & I can't imagine it either. With DS I was induced at 7am & it was a dreary dark day, so it was pretty dark in the room & then I was whisked off to theater around 4pm & he was born at 4.48pm! So by the time I got to look out my hospital window it was dark! DD was born at 4.56am, so obviously dark then! I guess nighttime would "suit" me better as I'd rather have extra time with the new bub & DH in those first few hours. With DS I pretty much had MIL jump on the bed as I was wheeled out of the lift (not exaggerating one bit!) and with DD it was lovely & quiet, no rush at all.
Makes me wonder what's in store for this time!
