What does/did your ~12 month old eat in a day?

So DD has gone from eating next to no food (BLS, not for lack of offering), to in the last week or two, eating much, much more. I think it's a combination of her being ready now, and that my milk is down to a few drops. Either way, I'm happy she's embraced food a bit more now. We're doing a mixture of BLS an spoon feeding (like soups, cereals, sloppier things).

So I'm just wondering how much other people's ~12 month olds eat/ate a day? DD will now have one and a half weetbix and milk for breakfast, half a piece of fruit and some cheese for a snack, about a cup of pasta/soup/one sandwich for lunch, sultanas, prunes, dry biscuit and some yogurt in the afternoon, and about a cup serving of whatever we have for dinner. I'm happy with how she's eating now, but very surprised that we've gone from pretty much all booby milk to all this food in such a small space of time. She drinks water all throughout the day, and we're giving her about two 80ml bottles of cows milk a day.

That sounds about the same as what my kids ate at the same age. She's doing well!

She was constipated about a week ago and is only just getting better. Shock to her system I think So we eat prunes every day now and drink loads of water which seems to have helped, and we have donated EBM which we often replace one of her cows milk bottles with. I'm just amazed that something seems to have clicked, I feel like she eats and eats! Good fun having properly solid poo's now too Thanks guys. It's a relief to know she's not letting herself starve without her breastmilk.

That is a great amount of food. DS2 who is around the same age and he probably eats a little less than that.

    Good work!

Lol about the poos! I love that they roll off into the loo but man do they stink!!

DD still has a lot of milk. I can't get her to have breakfast before heading to work/daycare, she just won't eat it So she has a feed at about 6 as we're waking up, and then a small top up at 7:30 before we leave.

At daycare she eats a lot! They give her really special food, makes me feel a bit lame in comparison lol. A typical day would be mixed chopped fruit for a snack, she has maybe a cup full. Then something like chicken rissoles or lasagna for lunch, and if she only has a tiny bit they'll offer her some of the vege puree they offer the other kids. Afternoon snack is something else cooked, or a savoury muffin or something. Then a bit of what we have for dinner, she loves her veges so she'll eat a lot of mashed potato, peas, corn and carrots, and play with a bit of meat.

On a day like today where she's home with me she eats a bit less, but generally whenever I have something we share it Sounds like Miss I is doing great and loving it!

Wow PZ she has really got this food thing down pat...

My boys eat heaps as well, they have been eating more and more since about 10mths... Obviously I do double of everything but to give you an idea what eat of them eats separately..

    Wake Up, first feed
220ml bottle when they wake up
1 slice of Multigrain Toast and butter
    Tub/pouch of yoghurt

    Breakfast
2 Weetbix and Milk and 1/2 banana

    Snacks -
    Fruit Bars
    Yoghurt Drops
    Dry Biscuits
    Crackers
Prett much whatever is on offer

    Lunch
1 1/2 Vegemite Sandwiches or Bread and Butter and sliced ham, sliced chicken
    handful of grapes

    Dinner
    1 to 1 1/2 bowls of dinner...
    Spaghetti Bolognese
    Chicken, Rice and Vegetables
    Scrambled Egg and Toast
    Fish and Vegetables
    Chicken and Vegetables

DS1 will then have another bottle before bed of about 180ml-200ml. DS2 will generally eat more than DS1 so normally we offer him an evening bottle but he generally doesn't drink it.

Although that might change when they go onto cows milk, which I'm going to start next week...

I must say though, my boys at this age eat WAY more than DD who is 2 1/2..

Hamish is 15 months and a big big boy but in a day he eats"
2 pieces of toast or 2 weetbix then a yogurts and a piece of fruit.
Cheese or fruit for morning tea
pasta or sanga or scrambled eggs for lunch
fruit or custard for arvo tea
what ever we are having for tea - he will eat a derert bowl full then has some fruit or cheese or what ever he didnt eat during the day
He will then proceed to eat off our plates after he is out of his high chair and then polish off his sister tea
He also has 200mls or cows milk first thing in the morning, before bed at lunch and before bed at night - then one or 2 bottles over night.
He has his sippy cup with water all day when ever he is after it.

Sounds like miss I is doing a great job!

Glas Isla's eating has picked up. Finn's a guts, always has been lol! He typically eats:

    Breakfast
2 weetbix with milk or a big bowl of porridge with stewed fruit
    Piece of toast

    Snack
    Cruskit

    Lunch
Bowl of lumpy vegies with pasta or couscous
    Half a sandwich/wrap

    Snack
    Fruit/rice cake

    Dinner
    Huge bowl of risotto/pasta etc
    Yogurt or stewed fruit

He still has 4 or 5 breastfeeds a day but only has the occasional sip of water - he much prefers tipping it upside down!

Goodness, I don't think I even offer that much to Milly She eats when I eat, but not full meals to herself. Mostly just a bit of whatever I'm having, or a few grapes if I'm trying to lure her away from the fridge... She's still getting mostly breastmilk. It's only when I can't stop (or simply can't be bothered) to feed her that I give her solid, separate snacks through the day. At dinnertime, she gets a pretty fair amount of anything we're having. Sometimes she eats it all, most times a lot ends up on the floor and not much in her mouth.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, maybe that's why she was underweight at her 12 month check?

I doubt it Teni Have you seen your husband lately? Tall, skinny as a bean? Yeah If my milk weren't almost gone, DD would be a little milk-fed veal too.

I really doubt it too Teni. My girls were 'underweight' at their 12 month check - both weighed 7.4kg and they eat all day. My husband is a tall skinny one too. If she was hungry, she'd let you know. Actually, I should say 'my girls have food in front of them all day'. I seem to spend most of the time scrubbing it out of their ears and out of the carpet, I'm not actually sure how much goes in their mouths

No Teni - it's fine. I doubt you are doing anything wrong!! My DS2 barely ate until he was about 14 months. He is not yet 2.5 and eats what some of these little 12 month olds are eating! Some days/weeks he seems to eat more, and some days i wonder what he ate at all. He doesn't drink milk really and gave up the bf a little while ago.

Some kids are big eaters. Some are slow starters. Each to their own.

PZ - i'm glad that Isla has found ways to compensate for less bf. You can stop feeling bad now, aye!

Yay, now feeling better, we can move on and go back to telling PZ she's doing a frickin' fantastic job

I am going to start offering more food though, I didn't realise she should be eating a bit more. I just hate doing clean-up

Teni, that's why I started spooning some of Isla's foods, I hate the mess lol. Also, I bought one of those funny rubber bubs where all the food falls into a little trough Love it for when we're out.

I eat that often of a day anyway, especially when pregnant, so it's easy to just give DD a serve. I'm thrilled she seems to be on par with other kids now. She has lost a bit of weight since I fell pregnant and her nappies were getting kind of dry, so this is really relieving for me. Also, I DON'T feel bad anymore. I've grieved that things didn't go the way I had wished BF wise, with the help of all of you ladies, and I've come to terms with it and I feel great DD is happier than she has been in a while, she's healthy, and I'm feeling happier not carrying around any guilt. She still enjoys booby, just not for as long as she used to. Her sleep is still crap, but hey, not everything can be perfect
