thread: Another bub not gaining weight

Hoody, big hugs to you hun and your little one, I hope you work it all out soon. Your Bub will be fine, sounds like Barb was great help to you. You are not failing her at all, you sound like a fantastic Mummy! I am FF Madeleine since 2 weeks old. I have never felt like I've failed her and neither should you. FF Madeleine has been great but if BF is your strong choice then stick with it and good luck with everything

My MCHN phoned today to see how i was getting on and i ended up in tears! She suggested i go and see her so i did. I told her i was going to see an LC and she told me that she is actually one (i knew she was very pro BFing but did not know this) We weighed Molly and she has lost weight since Wed so not good news. I am pumping 1 1/2 -2 hrly and still offering the breast as much as possible, When pumping i am lucky to get 10-20mls in total from both sides. She suggested i go to my GP and start on some Motilium so i have also done that. My GP was very for FF and told me too much pressure is put on BFing and i should switch over so i retorted that too much pressure is put on FFing and that i wanted to BF and wasnt going to formular feed. I Have another app with my MCHN on Mon day to follow up and re weigh Molly. One good thing that came out of my meeting with her today is that i have not attachment issues etc Molly is just frustrated at lack of milk so refuses breast after a suck or 2. I will be setting the alarm to pump through the night. I am determined to get back on track.

Thankyou all for your support i feel its the only place i have it apart from my MCHN everyone else around me is telling me to FF. (i did buy some just incase but dont think i will use it, i just did it to keep everyone off my back )

Hoody, I'm glad you have support in your MCHN. You sound determined to make BFing work, and I'm sure you will succeed.

Motilium is not anyone's first choice, but I know it has made a big difference for me. In fact, I doubt we would still be BFing if I hadn't started it on it when I did. I hope it makes all the difference for you, and that after a short time on it you can wean off. How much are you taking, just out of interest? I take Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle too now.

Good luck with your expressing too, it's bl00dy hard work, but it will help you in the long run.

Good luck. I had issues at 8 weeks with bubba, but we perservered, comp fed at times, I took motilium, and now at over 6 months, we are still going
    It can def happen.
If it doesn't work out, it doesn't, but you are obviously very keen to keep going if you can. Good luck with it all
If you have any q's, I'm only a PM away

So sorry to hear you're still having problems with Molly. Depending on how you get on, if you're interested in taking your DD to a chiropractor I know an excellent one who specialises in treating babies - especially those with feeding, colic, wind and reflux issues. They're based in Australind so it would be a day outing for you, but they turned my DD from an unhappy little girl who screamed in my arms for 20 hours a day into the happiest, most content little girl ever. It was the best 300kms I've ever driven! PM me if you want any details.

Hoody - yay for you having such a supportive MCHN And good on you with what you said to the GP, with that kind of attitude you are bound to succeed. I hope the motilium kicks in for you so you can get a little confidence boost.

    Well done, and good luck

when you say Molly is windy, does that mean she gets a hard tum and finds it hard to go to the toilet? my bilby had that as a young bub, we gave her gripe water (the brand that says NO alcohol in it, instead of the 1% alcohol one), and about three minutes after her swallowing it, i kid you not, splurty splurt splurt, business was done, and she would smile with relief - and off to the change table to give her a fresh nappy. It was such a relift to us, as parents to find such a simple solution.

Your local nurse sounds very supportive, i am impressed how you stood up to your GP, good on you, the pressure to FF is enormous (even when your bub is thriving i found), so that took alot of guts. I hear you, you want to exhaust all possibilities first - i would feel the same way.

Hope you get to see that Lactation Consultant to get the one to one help for you and Molly.

You love your Molly and you're trying everything you know, you can't do any more than that.

The pressure around you must be awful if you have had to buy formula to get people off your back!

    hugs to you hon.

oh yeah, when you put that Molly has one or two sucks then stops, sometimes a warm shower seems to make the milk flow easier. Have you ever tried feeding Molly whilst sitting in a warm bath? When you're both stressed out about feeding, maybe a nice bath would destress you both a bit.

hope things improve for you both sweetie

Oh Hoody I'm so glad your MHCN is giving you help with bfing, it did sound in an earlier post that she was trying to help you with your goal of bfing. *Phooey* to your GP, I'm glad you put him straight, what a terrible attitude to display to someone who's looking for support.

I hope the pumping helps you and I'm so impressed with your persistence! You are setting a great example of being a committed Mum. I remember once at an ABA meeting another mum said for her bfing was a commitment she made to her baby and that's why she persevered when she had problems (in her case for almost 12 wks).

I know you've heard it before, but if you can try to relax as much as possible before a feed it will help your letdown and Molly won't get as frustrated that the milk isn't coming as quickly. Put your feet up, have Mia distracted with something she enjoys doing (I hate to say it, but put something on TV for her while you are bfing, or get her favourite toy out only while you're feeding Molly). Have your DH bring you a drink while he's home or give your shoulders a massage. Have you tried bfing lying down? It's a very comfortable relaxed position and maybe the change will suit Molly.

Good luck Hoody and I hope you get there soon!

Molly isnt refusing the breast half as much any more but i am still struggling to get extra feeds in and also for her to take both sides. She will feed from one side for about 5-10 mins fine. I am offering the breast as often as i can weather she is demanding to be fed or not. I am still expressing every couple of hours though am still lucky to get 30-40 mls from both sides and sometimes i will get nothing, i know babies are more efficient suckers but i guess the stimulation will be good any how. I use the EBM to top her up. I am crossing my fingers and toes that she is doing better. She is having fuller nappies so i guess thats a good sign. Only time will tell.

Thank you all for your continued support

    Hi,

That's great. You will notice that the more milk she gets, the more she wants! 30 or 40 mls is great when you are feeding so often. I wonder what sort of pump you are using?

Hoody, sounds like you're getting better at pumping too. The more you pump the better luck you'll have with expressing. If she's having fuller nappies that's a good sign. Is she still crying a lot? It sounds like you are doing a fantastic job!

I am still expressing 3x a day and feeding as often as i can. My supply is much better - i am back to leaking Thankyou all so much for all of your support without BB i dont think i would have stuck it out.
