I'm waiting on the cushie tushie seconds here, ordered 4 because i needed a fluff fix and we're saving for furniture *sigh* and need to buy plane tickets. I only got to get those because i told dp they were $15 off 2 and $10 off 2. No more til i get back from melb i thinkOn the bright side, warmer dry weather en route so will be able to dry them in half a day.

Mel, how would you compare the BumG crotch width to a BBH magicall for example? I have a skinny babe and want to try a BumG. The magicalls were WAY to wide in the crotch for us so if BumG aren't as bad I will try and track on down cheap to give it a go.I used both the sized ones and the OSFM pockets - both were fine on my kids. A little wide in the crotch area, but it never caused any leaks
Anyone else got any recommendations for smaller crotch and higher rise nappies? They seem to work best for us at this stage. Anyone tried the Wild Child work horse?
Yay for sunny days, hopefully things will dry quicker.

Lollybaby - Its been a LONG time since I used a magicall mate - but from memory, they were slimmer than the bumg's in the crotch. But I haven't used one since DD was a baby - have since gotten rid of them because they just didn't work for us.

lolly- I only have osfm BGs but they r pretty wide. From memory they were the same as the minky magicalls if not wider. Were u after sized nappies or osfm? If sized, I'd recommend Genesa forges. You could always request an extra set of snaps so it'd fit better. GF front snaps don't work for us, but I love the Sidesnaps
Gigi- hi! I think I did send u a msg back awhile ago but knowing my luck, it prolly got gobbled up by cyber space. I wish I could meet mel but don't think our time would allow for it...it'd be nice though as I wanna pat a pg belly. Oh wells next time!

Fluffy mail!! Yay! My super cheap ittis! I got them delivered to work so DH didn't see. One of my staff is pg and she has been very interested in what I do with cloth so it was good to show them to her IRL. Maybe a convert???
Lollybaby BG's are pretty wide. They work well for us but so do magicalls and CTs. Maybe look out for a second hand one to try first.

Hoping my fluffy mail from ebay rocks up tomorrow as it's gonna be 34 compared to 17 on monday. Oh and the fact I wanna play with more nappies doesn't help too.
Had a friend over with a baby same age as Charlie who was interested in cloth so i leant her a BBH and a Cushie Tushies to try. She's been asking a million and one questions for weeks so I'm guessing she will probably convert. She was using the cloth nappy service but those nappies are awful.

the OSFA whizz kidz sidesnappers and OSFA Cute Tooshies bamboo delights, were two brands of OSFA FITTED nappies that have leg frills. The leg elastic is set in about one inch from the edge of the crotch width, so the crotch ends up being narrower than they first appear. Plus you can tuck in the leg frills, for the younger bub to make it trimmer again.
Lollybaby, i hear you. my child suited narrow crotched nappies too, so i had to make an concerted effort to track those type down. At first, i didn't even realise there was such a thing as wide or narrow crotched nappies. But it's mentioned more on US sites, that's where i discovered the difference actually existed. it's not as spelt out on the Aust sites.

we didn't use OSFA's for that reason. as much as i would have LOVED to have used all those yummy OSFA brands that do the wide crotch.
what i ended up doing (after many mistakes) was emailing EACH seller, adn asking them for the MEASUREMENT IN CM of the crotch width of the nappy i was considering buying.
i would compare that with the crotch width i knew my child suited, and then decide whether to go ahead.
e.g i knew 12cm wide was good for bilby
so if i got an email back, telling me the crotch of the nappy was 17cm, i knew not to go ahead and buy that one.
even with her three rolls of fat (from 4 - 11 months), she needed the narrow crotch nappies. i kept thinking, surely a chubba bubba would need wide nappies and fit the usual OSFA, but no, they were a terrible fit on her. Took ages for it to sink into my thick skull.
Helen - congrats on your win - the Mini la la - go to their product site - i think they use a HIDDEN PUL layer, not cotton laminated PUL - makes a difference.

we've overnighted with cloth for a week with great success! anais wears rocky mountain pockets and drybee's aio pocket hybrids with hemp inserts. they work GREAT. i love the rocky mountains because you can adjust the leg gussets to fit your bubthey're super soft and come in adorable colours ^__^
just ordered unbleached indian premiums with nappy covers for full-time cloth

had our first ever leak yesterday, DD was in a Giraffe Cushie Tushie yest for 4 hours (she fell asleep so was in it a big longer than planned). I had one of the boosters in but she still wet through. Im guessing it may just need more prewashes? or only wear it for 2 hours or something!

6-10 days from MELBOURNE to Kalgoorlie. 8 days from Qld to kal. It only take 32 hours to DRIVE from Melb to Kal too and i'm not counting the day i post item either.
I have a heavy wetting baby and the only time she's outweed a ct couture was when i thought i could chance a full wear after 3 pre washes so maybe that might be the issue.
Friend that borrowed a couple of MCNs just ordered 10 so i have seriously convedrted her.

4 hours is about the max I get out of CT so it might be that it is just how long it lasts.
Kamarine I am yet to find the perfect nappy bag to fit all my stuff in! Dh has his own and his is fine but I can't seem to organise mine the same way! I usually jsut squash 2 in there somewhere.

In general, i would expect a cloth nappy to be on a child up to two hours. The one area of MCN that can be worn longer, are the night nappies. They have double (at least) of the absorbent layers and the wool covers/soakers/longies absorb liquid too, so even when the nappy itslef if 100% saturated, the wool cover keep absorbing. But not many people put night nappies, or night fitteds and wool covers on bubs during the day. I used a night nappy for plane travel with a child in mcn, that worked great.
Disposables you can leave on longer than two hours, due to the blue chemical things that are superabsorbent. But cloth gets to 100% saturation point quicker. Changing more often also helps keep nappy rash at bay.
i think about it from the baby's point of view. If i were that baby and i had wet/soiled myself, would i like to be left sitting in that? I've seen some awful cases of nappy rash, and had childcare workers tell me horror stories of children being left in the same nappy for 12 hours and sent back to CC the next morning still in the same nappy they left CC in the night before. i think alot of nappy rash can be prevented.

My own DD having it really really bad at 14 months (the one and only time she did) also made me read about it alot, when i was trying to fix hers.
i can't even remember what got me on this track now, god i'm so tired. NR is something i feel i can never speak about in real life (it's a taboo topic), so i guess i get it off my chest in this forum. (safe venue).
But the timing is arbitrary anyhoo. There will always be time when you're caught in traffic, or your day just turns out differently than you expected. But when at home, and all things going well, i changed bilby whenever she needed it, not according to how many minutes/hours she had had the nappy on for. I would rather wash another nappy, than risk her getting nappy rash. Probably spoken like a mum of one (which i am). Probably making all the mums of 3,4,more get a serious case of the rolling eyes.

i totally agree, the majority of nappy bags are designed to fit a few slim disposables in them, and no room for a wetbag with used nappies in it. it's all done on the assumption that you throw the nappy away.
i shopped for a nappy bag, by taking all i wanted to put into a nappy bag WITH me, when i went to the shops that sold nappy bags. i would get the bags i was most interested in, sit on the shopfloor and test each one out to see if it fitted what I needed it to fit.
i ended up getting a "bowling bag" style nappy bag, quite a few separate compartments. but that was for ONE child.
another thing i did was to have a 2nd daggy nappy bag in the car, that lived IN the car. so if i went anywhere and run out of nappies in my nappy bag that went everywhere with me, i could go out to the car to get more clean nappies. The 2nd nappy bag in the car was also my backup if i lost my nappy bag, we got stranded due to car breakdown etc. On two ocassions it really saved my bacon.
Never heard of Rocky Mountain nappies, i'm curious now. Googled it, the only url i got was for a UK nappy shop that sells them. They look like either Fuzzibunz or Rumperooz, i forget which, the ones that have the adjustable elastic in the legs (clever idea). I expected US sites to come up, with a name like Rocky Mountain nappies. maybe if i had googled "rocky mountain DIAPERS" instead of googling "Rocky Mountain nappies", i would have gotten a bigger response.

maz - I just had a thought about dryers munching snaps... would it be possible to put the damp/cold/crunchy nappy in a pillowcase or something similar before chucking it in the dryer? I haven't got a dryer, so maybe that's a really stupid idea. But it might work??
