I wanted to add something to the wonderful advice above. You say you used to get terrible pain and that was your reason for going on the pill. It was also my reason.
When you see your GP, mention it to them and ask if it could be indicative of endometriosis. We were TTC over 3 years before I finally saw a Dr skilled in treating endo and we were pg with DD 3 months after we started seeing him. Some women manage to get a BFP quite easily in spite of having endo, but for others it simply prevents it. I was one of the latter group.
The catch is that endo can only be diagosed surgically, so you would probably want to wait until you have been TTC for a year (the normal point where you start seeking medical assistance) or until your pain was severe enough to warrant a surgery to investigate it (ie for quality of life instead of TTC).
