I found that writing down everything I ate really helped me understand what I was putting in my mouth and thinking about it before I ate it. It really made me aware and accountable for what I was eating. Once I was accountable then I was able to start changing it.

I agree with Nai, I signed up to calorie king dot com and tracked what I ate and limited my intake according to the websites recommendation. And I was surprised at what I had been eating.

On top of that I exercised everyday after my last meal, rail, hail or shine - NO EXCUSES. Aerobic activity burns fat and increases your fitness; and yep, when I first started out (at about 90kgs after having DS) moving quick was harder, but then as I continued on with determination the weight came off (another 36kgs) and I moved easier, and seeing the results urged me to 'go harder' with the exercise. I started the whole exercise thing in early October and had lost the 36kgs by mid Feb.

Some people get a bit airy fairy about losing weight an 'easier' or a softer way, and lets face it if it was that easy we probably wouldn't have the obesity epidemic most western cultures face now (aka Globesity). Face it head on with pure motivation and determination, don't be afraid to sweat and push yourself that little bit extra - because thats what makes the biggest difference! Then you'll have no one but yourself to thank for the results you get :-)

100% agree. Tacking is key to weightloss. It is so easy to be in denialabout what you eat, or to honestly not realise just how much food is in terms of kj - portion sizes are a killer.

It isn't enough to want to loose weight, you need to have a plan of attack.

I would second the WW suggestion, but there are other good healthy programs and options out there. If you don't want to join a program, maybe talk to a nutritionist.

Wear one of those granny knickers/abdominal support things, that suck in your tummy and thighs. They suppress your appetite. When I wore one, I didn't eat all day and didn't even feel the slightest bit hungry. Had to force feed myself!
And try not to buy junky foods. Whenever I am at the shops and I go to buy them, I just think 'What a waste of money, I'd much rather buy some awesome steaks".
This really works for me, my house is totally junkfood free, and whenever I want to snack, I'm forced to eat an apple or banana, or nuts, even if I really just want salt and vinegar chips. And I'm so used to it now. I don't even want those foods.

Yup, just don't have the rubbish in the house to eat. Spoken as someone who had 24 chocolate ganache tartlets in the house *yesterday* and now ... er ... they're gone! Expensive treat lol

I'm fat too but its a phase, it will pass, and then I can permanently get rid of all my fat clothes. Fat is relative too, my 'fat' is probably someone else's goal weight, but its still 10kg too much for me. I'm a small-boned lightweight normally.

Breastfeeding is a great license to eat lots in the meantime

OMG I could have written your post almost word for word .. I had my "I'm fat" moment just before DD baptism when I tried on a dress in a 16 and it was tight, needless to say I burst into tears and couldn't get home fast enough. I know a 16 isn't big for some people but for me its HUGE. I flatly refuse to post any photo's that have me in it because I am so damned ashamed of how I look. I am just over 80kg and my ideal weight for my height and shape is 60- 64 at the most. I know I have been cruel to myself following NIkita's death and also for my other 2 unknown angels but THIS is Disgusting, I feel YUK.

I am increasing my water intake atm and trying to walk daily either on the treadmill or down one of the dirt roads but I struggle. I am scared because I am BF that I will ruin my supply when it has been a HUGE issue for me right from the get go.

I want to be fit and healthy so I can be a good example to my DD .... sorry for the hijack ....... I so know how you are feeling x x x

Okay, after all of your advice, I've sat myself down and made a really good plan of attack.

-Proper exercise, to begin with once a week; I'm going to do Zumba with the lovely Feeb
-More incidental exercise; taking the stairs, walking instead of buses etc etc
-Walking faster. I am the slowest walker EVER. I'll push myself more!
-A brisk walk around the block, every few nights to begin with, but more and more as I get fitter, and when I can jog/run, I'll do that.
-Cut out most of the bad sugars; means no soft drinks, chocolates, icecreams and all that junk....except for an occasional treat
-Cutting out all bad fats; no maccas, chips etc.
-Eating breakfast and lunch EVERY DAY; and making sure they are good choices. I love grapefruit, so I'm thinking a boiled egg, some wholegrain toast and a grapefruit. Lunch a ham and cheese roll with lots of spinach. Dinners are usually balanced, but will start cooking with healthier alternatives.
-Attempt to eat at least one piece of fruit a day.

This is just to begin with, as I am very unfit and not in tune with all the exercise. WDYT? Suggestions or improvements

Try and chuck some celery in your meals somehow. It goes well cooked with chicken.. apparently celery burns heaps of calories (more than it provides)

Great work hun, you have a plan now you work on it.. but remember it doesn't have to be all at once.. baby steps!
GL i know you'll do well.. i love celery & carrot too, bought those little nude food containers, have been cutting them up in the morning and just taking them out of the fridge when i feel peckish!
