Sammiejane - Stop that negative attitude right now hun! Just let today roll off your back. What /who inspires you to lose weight? Why do you want to lose weight? Do you need to lose weight? Tomorrow is always a brand new day - a fresh start. Remember, what you eat in private shows in public - that saying has always kept me on the straight and narrow!

Livvy - How tall are you hun? I firmly believe that if you have fit into size 11's before, you CAN do it again. Never before in adulthood had I been in Size 8 jeans, but I've done it now - twice, after DS and now again, after DD2. Yup, I still have the mummy tummy, but that is easily disguised .

Belfie - thanks hun - and well done to you for whipping out an extra 15 mins on the bike!

TT and Beckoes - thanks ladies - this is truly a great place to be for me. Your support has been much appreciated, I only hope I can pay it back - that goes to ALL of you in the thread !

well thats one for the fridge!! your an inspiration Leesa.

SJ....i have had a terrible few days...let it go and let tomorrow be a new day, thats what i have to work on too, i hold on to that feeling of failing more than i hold on to the kgs of whatever bad ive eaten!! one bad day doesnt make a failed effort, just a glitch, a moment, it doesnt cancel everything else out.....im telling myself that by the way, not you hugs

    Morning all,

Sorry for the woe is me post last night

a few personals, just from the last page otherwise i will be here all day - apologies in advance if i miss anyone, its not intentional!

Leesa _ way to go on hitting the 50's thats awesome, i cant believe you had bubs after me and have done so much - AWESOME!!!!
Beautitude - well done on you loss too
TT - dont be hard on yourself hun, you have A LOT going on in your life
    Welcome StarBright
    Goodluck today Miss K
Livvy - you have such a great attitude
Belfie... i sish i had a bike or something i could do indoors, i have a Xtrainer, but when DD2 came along, my workout area became DSS bedroom so it is stored in the garage with PILES of junk!

Leesa to answer your question... i think this time i want to loose weight for ME... in the past it has been for DH or to look good for others... but this time i want to look great for me and put on clothes and feel great and know that people arent looking at my muffin top etc ... sounds incredibly vain, but i think that its the right reason...

Beckoes - thanks for the love the est thing about in here is by supporting each other we are drumming the same message into ourselves

OK, so back on track today - I will loose this weight... I am aiming for 1/2kg a week at the moment as i think that this is more realistic for me.

You all have inspired me to see the 60's (as in hit them) as my first goal - 5kgs to go
    Weigh and measure is Sunday...

    Thanks for the welcome everyone!!!!

Leesa.. i am definately up for any ideas!! At the moment the immuno sepresent of the steroid is what is helping my eczema (possibly psorisis, the derm cant decide!!) So i am slowly weaning off the steroids and going onto a stronger, but different kind of immuno suppresent called methotrexate, which doesnt have the same side effects as steroids, but will do the same thing to help my hands. (sorry its a bit confusing!!) At the moment i am taking 10mg a day of oral prednisolone (2x 5mg tablets) dropping by half a tablet every week. So as of Monday morning i will take one and a half, and go from there til i am on none. I have been on them since february (and i have gained about 10 kilo's since then) so apparently i have to wean myself very slowly or i can do damage to my body naturally making whatever it is that the steroids make my body make... So, if you have any ideas that can work around that hectic schedual, im all yours!!!!

livvy Hi, yeah i take the oral steroids for my hands, the creams dont do anything!! I moisturise like mad too lol, i have only suddenly gotten excema since being a mum, i never had anything at all all my life until about a year ago!! Its been a horrible year of dr's and creams and pills and very sore hands!! lol (and weight gain to boot!!!) Hopefully these new meds that i am starting will help and i will get off the steroids and move along the weight loss!!! I had to laugh, i have been doing star jumps when the kids jump in the trampoline!! lol The keep wanting me to hop in too, but i m too heavy for the weigh tlimit on my own let alone with them!! So i stand nex tto it and do star jumps!! lol DS loves to do sit ups with me, so thats always a winner!! He either sits in front of me and gets a kiss every time i sit up- or he sits next to me and tries to do them too!!! He thinks excercising is fun, which is great that he is learning that!! He also likes to do the yoga on the wii too!!
I owuld love to be able to get to a class, but I only have Dh to look after the kids, or my aunt and uncle who work during the day and live like 2 hours away!! I might look into a place that does a creche thing, but that costs money !!! That was the idea of the wii being that i could do it at home... must get more batteries!!!!

Hi Tinsel!!!! Maybe we should get together for some wii fun!! lol Or even just a long walk with the kids next time i am in the city for the day!! i will let you know!! :-)

Tellytubby.. Well done on your positive thinking!! Its so easy to get all depressed and eat, (and you have reason enough to be sad ) So a huge GOOD ON YOU for seeing that it would only really make you feel worse!!!!!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!!!

Beckoes.. I am loving your goals!! I might pinch some, i did start a food diary to see if stuff i was eating was effecting my whole hands saga too, but i gave it up, i will pull the book out again and give it a go!!

Sj... Its all about the hurdles!!! Its ok to stumble sometimes, thats the best thing baout threads like this, there are peole to help pick you up and pop you back on track!!! Its not easy to loose weight- or everyone would just be able to do it!! I like your reasons for wanting to loose weight, thats mainly my reason too, i want to feel good again!!! Keep up the good work that has gotten you this far!!!!! You CAN do those last 5kg's!!!!!! YOU WILL REACH 60- OR BELOW!!!!!!!

Well today i vow to hop on the bike while DD sleeps (however long that may be!!) and to do 50 situps!!! I wont be tempted by the choc chips bikkies in the cuboard.. i will eat fruit instead!!! And i am not hopping on the scales coz i just dont want to know right now

    Wish me luck...

Just wanted to pop my head in here. I'm 4 weeks PP so I'll be waiting another couple of weeks before properly starting my weight loss journey.

So basically I'm short and fat About 164cm and currently sitting on 74kg. My goal weight is 60kg, but realistically I'd love to get to about 57kg. Pre-preg I was 77kg, and at 40 weeks I was 89kg So 15kg lost in 4 weeks. I put that down to stress, BFing and not eating much My main issues with losing weight:

-Eating. Not so much eating better, I still indulge, but generally I eat well balance foods. It's frequency. I could eat 1 meal a day, or sometimes two in one day and none the next SO not healthy or good for me. So I need motivation/ideas to get 3-5 meals into me a day.

-Exercise. I'm really unfit and get puffed easily, as well as big boobs...I'm scared of that burning, suffocating feeling in my lungs! Need to move past that. I really like walking and cycling, I'm thinking of picking up a secondhand exercise bike for the lounge.

So yeah, that's me atm. Tips and advice would be great

Welcome PZ!! Its great that your starting to get right into things before they get harder!!! Eating well is ahuge thing for me too!! I am a snacker so i will snack all day and then it comes to meals and im not hungry!! (duh i wonder why??!!) and its meals that i try to eat well.

I have a question about excercise for anyone who may know.. so ok, i get on the bike and do a bit, take a break, do some more... is that AS effective as doing it all in one go???? Same with situps, my goal today is 50, but i will probably do that in two or three goes, like 20, then a few hours later 20 more, than 10 kind of thing. Is this worth it????? Should i try to do them all at once?????

hey all! well have been up and out for a walk and a play at the playground already today and got home for lunch - had a meeting so not really my own motivation lol

    hmmm... so to catch up...

leesa - am 170-171cm so about 5'7" and have always had quite wide hips (let alone now...), size 10-11 being my minimum pre preg size on bottom. top am not concerned about so much as still have quite a narrow waist (although still about 6-7cm to go to get back to pre preg) and shoulders and have never really carried much weight on top...

starbright - i would totally recommend a food diary then hun, cos there must be something in your environment that has changed (also pregnancy and BF actually dry out your skin considerably as well, but not that much!). also worth thinking about are things like washing products like what soap or body wash you use, what laundry powder or additives, what moisturisers and make ups, whether you wear gloves for (everything in my case) washing up, nappy bucket, cleaning etc. whether you drink enough water or too much caffeine. what products you use on bub's skin, bum or bath, whether you use wet wipes or water and a cloth... all those kinds of things. if i wasn't as strict as i am with my and bub's environment then i would probably be pretty similar to you (truly) as if i do something that aggravates my skin then they end up (within a day or two tops) cracked and bleeding and excruciatingly painful. also have you thought about flaxseed or fish oil supplements?

sammiejane - not vain, is totally about you and your self esteem (vanity would be how you look for others, not yourself). i am absolutely with you on this as this is what i want too. i want to feel gorgeous and attractive and not like a potato person

pumpkinzulu - honey, even if you just have a few ready made meals in the freezer and fridge (whether from friends, family or the supermarket) that might help you out a bit. your bub is still so young and i remember having things like single or serves two packets of soup, curry and risotto in the fridge AND freezer when bub was teeny as i didn't have the time or energy to cook. it really helped as then i could just take one out of the fridge and heat it up and bung whatever i didn't use back in the fridge. you need to eat well both for your recovery (birth is BIG on the body) and if you're BF then for the quality of milk for you little one. other things are like individual sized tins of tuna (flavoured or not) or salmon or sardines in the pantry and then you can just rip into one and have a burst of protein. cos honey, the guidelines are generally to not lose more than a kilo a week so 15 in 4 sounds dangerous for you health not to mention bub's... have you got a coffee group or friends who are mums too? or just someone who you love who can drop in once or twice a week, wash your dishes, do your vacuuming and make you a casserole or something? i aim for three meals with protein (breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner) and a snack or two if i'm hungry (usually either raw fruit, veges or nuts).

miss k - hope the nutritionist went well

belfie - well done on the cycle!

beckoes - hope your goals are going well

tellytubby - hope you're having a good day today

    everyone else - ditto!

Just subscibing for later. Weighed myself on Thursday and lost 700grams for the week. I was stoked with that. Hopefully I can get below 80kilos by the end of July (currently 81.3)

    Welcome PZ.

Leesa thats a great saying and so true what you eat in private shows in public lol. I love it.

SB I have no idea how effectice doing exercise in intervals are but it would be way better then not doing it at all. I know when I was doing WW years ago you got more bonus points for the exercise been done all at once. So if I did a 30min walk it was an extra 2 points (you could spend on food) but if you did 3 lots of 10min exercise it would only be 1point.

My exercise for yesterday was loading firewood into the trailer which involved alot of walking (from the tree it was cut from to the trailer and lifting). Today I went for a small jog but hope to go for a walk later.

    Wow this thread is buzzing!

Mildez - woo hoo that's awesome! Great exercise too. I've read the same thing about the exercise. If you do it all in one go, you get your heart rate up & keep it up, which is better for fat burning... whereas if you do it in 3 lots, you don't have quite the same result. BUT, 3 lots is still better than no lots!

Livvy - ooh can we swap shapes? tehehe. I thought my hips might get bigger from having kids but instead they're smaller and i'm just even more top heavy! Isn't it a bummer when they exacerbate our problem areas? I don't know how it would go with getting back to your original size, but i"m sure that exercising & getting fit would give you the best possible chance. The body can take a while to settle back down, so I would think you've got a good chance.

Starbright - oh now i realise where that question came from , and you can see what I said above. I also found that while I was recovering (VERY bad hips/pelvis during PG) my osteo said I was better doing things in small lots and with good technique rather than doing one big session but fatiguing and doing it poorly... so I guess I just gave a reason to do it in little goes after all! I often do 2 lots of 30 mins nowadays. But just depends on the kids & what I can fit in.

PZ - welcome. I know the big boob feeling, 'orrible ain't it. the bike sounds like a great idea. And two bras on for walking. I have dropped 10cm off my boobs, and it feels soooo much better. Like you know... "hey, I'm back here. Yup, there's a person behind the boobs!" My other suggestion would be food diary - that way you'll keep yourself honest about eating properly. And plan your meals if you can. Makes it much easier if you've pre-decided what to eat.

SJ - can you dig out the Xtrainer & find s'where to put it? I imagine it would really help with reaching your goals. Plus I reckon moving all that junk would burn some cals too hehe. GL with your weigh-in on Sun. Oh and there's been some articles around recently showing that sleep deprivation impacts metabolism & eating patterns for sure. It is harder to do, but can be done - if that helps.

Leesa - rrarrrgh hottie! And I ended up doing 60 mins on the bike, I was really proud of myself. And I am gonna put a new battery in my HRM. When I've cycled this week I've been checking my HR a few times, thanks to you.

AFM, well I'm wearing my new skinny HAWT jeans all week cos I can't believe how good they look tehehe. I bought 2 smaller bras, but I'm still getting a bit of over-boob action depending on where I am feed-wise... grrr. So that's incentive to try lose some more, cos they're SO close to fitting properly. And they're from target... 12E... there was no bigger cup size . I stuffed up yeseterday & didn't eat properly in the arvo before Zumba (I have dinner after)... then I was knackered! Got through the class ok, but driving home... omg so tired. So that's a lesson for me - fuel up properly Belfie! I got my 59.8 on Sat, but promptly weighed in the 60's for the next 3 days so annoying, but finally I'm back in the 50's again. I don't think I'm up for a big loss tomorrow, but we'll see. I do weigh everyday. I have a food malabsorption issue and whenever it flares up I retain a lot of fluid and my weight can spike up & down by 1 or 1.5kg. Or if munchkin has a smaller feed than usual that can impact too. So I find if I weigh daily I get less discouraged if it happens to be a bad result on weigh-in day, cos I know how I'm tracking overall. Earlier in my weight loss journey I noticed that I always ate really badly for a few days after a gain and then exacerbated the gain. Now I'm finding I can stay more focussed and less discouraged - as I know it's probably just fluid. It took me a few months to really work that out on an emotional level tho.

I've also set myself a time-based weight loss goal. My loss so far has been right on 0.45kg per week (since start of march). If I continue at this rate (which seems pretty doable) I'll be 56.2 on the 10/9 (a week before DD's 1st b'day) by losing 3.6kg. So I'm pretty keen to do that. Losing that 3.6kg is my minimum goal. I think I want to be 55-56kg. I've even bitten the bullet & adjusted my sig too. Thinking that in 8 weeks I'll be done is a great incentive, as opposed to when I started and just tried to take a fairly long-term view. I will also admit that I think setting the weight loss goal in a timeframe can be a trap. I reckon in general it's better to set behavioural goals (i.e. exercise & food) and then see what loss follows. And if you don't get the losses you wanted, then you obviously have to tweak s'thing with your food or activity. Just my little soap-box thought for the day .

Hope you're all doing well. I'm off to vaccum & dance while I do it.

    Hi PZ... Welcome
You are the same height and weight as me!
Well done on your weight loss so far, go easy on yourself, you have a lot on your plate (no pun intended!) right now...
Try eating regular meals, even if they are small, will help even your metabolism and also your milk supply
I have found regular meals and snacks have helped my appetite and naughty snack during the day (night tine is another story!)

    Just popping in...
Had two cups if tea an orange and two kiwis this evening, soooo much better than previous nights!

Also had chat to DH about wanting to loose weight, there is no way we can get the xtrainer in the house now, so he went and watched tv in the bedroom so I could do 35 mins on the wii AND we had some money in our paypal account, so he told me to get the 30day shred DVD, so between that and the wii, hopefully I can exercise everyday...
Oh AND I walked to the library for story time and clocked up 12975 steps for the day.

So a bit of a woo hoo for me this evening

Tinsel - I wish I was10cm taller I think everyone doing something makes me more keen.

Leesa- took my measurements for the challenge

TT - r we fb friends? (sorry for not recalling if we are, I have a hard time remembering user names to irl names). If so I have a pic of my bike on there (though I think it's in my DD1's pics as I had her on the handlebars lol). It's a spin bike that they use in gyms but honestly Hun, ANY bike will do the trick. I do a hard and fast 45 min session, however whilst you watch tv will still see u burn heaps of calories. You could do interval type training with a clock & do 30 secs really fast and then back off for the next 30 secs and repeat until exhaustion, then cycle at a casual speed just to flush the legs and bring your heart rate down safely for 5-10 mins, this will still see u burn calories at a higher rate than if u just did the entire session at a constant pace.

Sammie - I've heard great things about the 30 day shred actually! And a big woohoo to ur dh leaving the room so u could wii lol! Pardon the pun!

Belfie - awesome loss hun - wow, so close to the big 1-0 Hun - what a milestone. You gotta treat yourself something! A massage, facial, nails?? All of the above!

Livvy - anytime u want tough love just let me know Hun. Even via a pm if u wish!

Hi pz, beckoes, tinsel, starbright, mildez and anyone lurking !!!

AFM - I ended up instructing attack and pump this morning afterall as the usual instructor was sick. I love getting paid to do something I would have done for free lol! So my weigh in before class was 59.6 - so another 100 grams gone, but after the two classes I was 58.7 - but I'll see what the scales say tomorrow before I get too excited over a big loss. I'm thinking I will be low 59's as most of that loss would just be from sweat. Not sure what activity I'll do tonight? Thinking a Saturday night home with kids ( although 2 out of 3 of them will be asleep) maybe a dance session of body jam?

Keep active everyone - weight loss doesn't stop just coz it's a weekend .

P.s - thanks heaps to the ppl who have accepted the fat chic slim challenge ! You rock!

What a pumping thread full of energy!! Just what i need!!!!

Thanks heaps for those tips leesa!! I will make an effort to do the first thing and last thing excercise.. i had full intentions last night, but DD took ages to get to sleep, then ds and i fell asleep on the couch together!! And then DD was up and down all night, so this morning i was not up for getting up before any of them!!!!! In fact that will be my big thing lol, coz i dont usually get up unitl the kids do!! So i will see how i go!! As for the calories.. i honestly wouldnt know how many i was having a day- im not really up on all of that and to be honest i have never actually checked out the stuff written on packets (DENIAL or IGNORANCE??? either way it worked for me- but NO MORE!!!!) So maybe if i give you a run down on what i usually eat (i am pretty regular with my food) that might help you???

Breakfast - 2 peices of toast (white bread as i found wholemeal effected my hands- however i am thinking of trying multigrain) with peanut butter on it
Coffee- white full cream milk (tried the lite but stopped) with two BIG sugars

Morning tea.. - Fruit- i will usually chop up a large apple and one or two madarins, some watermelon or kiwi fruit and the kids and i (DS is 3, DD 1) will munch on that through out the morning

Lunch- 1-2 sandwhiches- (peanut butter again- or toasted cheese) i usually make two because DS will usually pinch at least half a sandwhich off me- even when i make him his own. If i am feeling naughty- this is where i will have glass of coke

Afternoon- snack on crackers, usually the bad cheds or country cheese ones- not plain or healthy. Or original doritoe chips with lite french onion dip.

Usually another coffee in the afternoon too.

Dinner- chicken or sausages (we have been eating on a budget, chicken wings and sausages are cheap!!) vegies- cauliflour, broccoli, carrots or beans or peas, with macaroni cheese or chips (fried) If we are having chicken it is usally marinated in like a honey/soy marinade - if its sausages, i will usually have my sausage in bread.

On a slack dinner night- we have frozen pizza with extra cheese. Another glass of soft drink if i have pizza (if your gonna be bad, might as well go the whole hog!!)

My excercising will usually be before or after lunch- depending on DD.. some days she will crash out at 11-30 so i excercise and we have lunch when she wakes up- so say about 1. Or other days she wont go down til 1, so we have lunch first, then when she goes to sleep i do the dishes (she loves to climb in the dishwasher so i have to wait til she is sleeping lol) and then i hop on the bike.

My tempatations during the day are if there are biscuits or chocolate in the house i will just walk past the fruidge/cuboard and grab a few squares or a bikkie here and there. I do the same with the crackers.

So writing it all out i am pretty embarresed about how i eat!! I definately dont include all the food groups!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

My excercise for today was bringing wood over from the wood shed - (must be that time of year Mildez!!!) it was good actually- usually we fill up the trolley thing and i would have done what was there in one or two trips... but i did it all by hand and so i walked there and back carrying the wood about 15 times!!! Woo hoo, then the kids were still asleep so i hopped on the bike for abit and then did 25 situps (i figured out if i do more than that i am actually too tred and not doing them properly!! so 25 at a time it is til i slowly work up to 30) Doing the bike- i pretty much do how you say to leesa, but time wise its a lot less, i will do the 30 sec intervals for about 4 minutes then cool down for about 2. Then if i am up for it, andother 2 minutes of intervals, then about a minute of cool down. Lately i have just been doing a gentle ride with out pushing hard. But trying to ride for longer. I find watching telly while i do it is good for me, i just keep on riding and if i get tired i just push myself to keep going until at least the next ad break!!

livvy... Thanks for the tips on my hands, i havent tried the flax oil yet, is that something i take or actually apply straight on my hands??? They have been really good since starting the new medication, no bumps since i started it, just still really dry. I have no idea what triggered it, i have changed everything i use for everything (no joke) and still got it- everything is now the "sensitive" version of anything!!! I do still use nappy wipes though- i had to change from huggies and i found that the no name woolies ones are ok to use- but that was a big thing that would make my hands react- even though i had been using huggies for two years with DS.. suddenly i cant touch them anymore!!! I have probably upped my caffine intake trying to cope with little sleep and two kiddies!!! So i try and watch that since doing some reading!! It is just a hassle to live with!! I envy you that your able to be so vigilant and not have to take medicine!! But for me at the moment- after having cracked and bleeding hands for months (and swollen too coz they would get infected from the cracking and bleeding) i welcomed anything that gave me releif!!!!! Hopefully over time i will learn what triggers there are and get off all the meds!! (So yes, i will pull out my food diary book!!)

OOh i need some "huge thigh away-ter" tips too- even at my skinniest i had huge thighs!!!! So i will be keeping an eye out for responses on that too!!

Mildez... All the best getting below 80!!!!!! Im sure you can do it!!!!!!! I will be trying to follow suit!!!!

Belfie... You go girl.. strut your stuff in those skinny jeans!!!!!! !!!!!!

Tinsel... I wont be coming to town this week, but the week after i will try to, maybe we could organise a meet up at the botanical gardens with anyone who wants to and do a nice bigh walk there!! Or even the park in belconnen we could walk around the lake :-)

Sammie.. Well done on gettin gin and doing some exercise!! i thik its great too that you had a good talk to your DH about trying to loose weight.. i keep saying it to my hubby- but then he still brings me home chocolate or something as treat (coz he knows i love it and want it!!!) but it really doesnt help!!!!

TT- i think i am close to your weight- I hopped on the scales again today 85.1.. so my first goal is to get out of the 80's!!!!!!
