I am so happy to hear you're loving the book and it's doing its job - I was hoping you'd be further inspired by it :-)
You soooooooooooooooooooooooooo earn't it hun!! You don't have to thank me at all xoxox
Hi ladies, I've been a bit slack latelyand haven't been really doing any exercise unless you count housework and chasing a toddler around. My hips are feeling good so I'm a bit afraid to start some exercise again in case they get sore again. Well, they're not completely 100%. I just get sore hips and glutes, sometimes radiates down the side of my leg, during the night on the side I'm lying on. During the day I'm fine. I have been doing lots of pelvic floor though and I can now do my clamshells and mermaids YAY! So I'm itching to return to pilates. I need it for the workout and I need it for that break out of the house, me time!
Winter, I've just done 33 pushups on my knees so it's an improvement. I think my goal was 40 by the end of the month. I better get working on that LOL.
Even though I'm not really exercising and my eating is bit naughty at times, my weight is stagnant. Neither gaining nor losing. I want to lose 8kg to be comfortable. 10kg to be ideal. I'd love to participate in one of those 12 week challenges but I'm a bit afraid of going all out because I'm breastfeeding and a bit anxious about my supply dropping off if I go overboard on the exercise. DH wants to lose weight as well but I think I'm going to have to be the motivator, action taker in this relationship
I would love to return to my martial arts as well but I don't think my body could handle it just yet.
I want to be able to run as well and one day run a marathon. I'd like to say I'd love to do a triathlon but I can't swim!
I am so happy to hear you're loving the book and it's doing its job - I was hoping you'd be further inspired by it :-)
You soooooooooooooooooooooooooo earn't it hun!! You don't have to thank me at all xoxox
Thankyou.....and I took your wise words and did. I went out last night and ran for 30 mins with only a 30 second breather at the 16 minute mark. Considering I haven't done ANYTHING for 3 weeks I was glad I haven't lost too much of my base fitness. I'm heading out tonight as well, then going to a pump class tomorrow and Sunday I'm having off.
Winter - Thankyou. I know I can do it....just needed to go and do it. IYKWIM. I've also been doing some interval training as well. Shorter runs (1km at a time) and faster, then allowing recovery time. DH has a sports science degree and says this is the best way to improve fitness. So I'm planning on doing 2 runs a week (longer runs) then interval training once or twice, as well as a few core running exercises on my days off (lunges, squats, step ups etc).
Of course it's only my head preventing me from going further and further and it's interesting as I am relying on myself for motivation as I have always exercised in groups or with buddies. It's just not convienient at this stage in my life to rely on others to be an exercise buddy, so it's awesome that I've found you guys.
So what's this wonderful book called? Sounds inspiring.
Just read a few posts about push ups on toes - wow, you guys are awesome!!!
Eluned - I get that radiating too. Worse in cold weather. Have you tried sleeping with a pilow between your knees? And you know what has helped me more than anything? Actually taking my meds! I've had them revised and no longer take the ones that left me hung over. I now take panadol osteo twice a day and my anti-inflammatories and it HELPS! I'm a million times better. I know you've had a break from pilates but are you still stretching? Stretching is the other big thing for me. Or I get a ball and really dig into the area which releases it a bit (which I need to do today). I use the nobbly balls you can buy from the physio but can also get from rebel sport. I totally understand about being reluctant to get back into it incase it aggrevates things. I have often felt like that. The est advice I can give you is to take baby steps and start light/easy. Gradually build back up to where you want to be. and I can't emphasize pre and post exercise stretching enough!
YAY for your weight staying the same!
Nell - well done on your run!
Winter - you rock chicky. You are such an inspiration!
Leesa - that client sounds frustrating. Perhaps explain that to be effective, you need feedback in the days following a session so as to avoid injuries and over doing it? Or just push her so hhard she breaks
AFM, I had an extra PT session yesterday. It was good. We altered my seated dead lift and I got a FANTASTIC stretch in my left leg (worse side) which was awesome... except my glute is playing up today! And my back is not liking it so much either. But it will settle. At least it isn't the same pain I was getting in the past! We skipped the treadmill yesterday and went straight to xtrainer which was a big risk. No warm up for my hip flexor could be bad... and the first 8 min hurt like hell on my right thigh. But we got to 10 min and then he threw me on the bike for 10. We're increasing the xtrainer and bike in 5 min incriments.
My goals for this month were to lose 1Kg and do 20 push ups. Well, push ups is done. But the kilo? Well, I don't really know what's happening. I lost 1.5 at the begining of the month and, without changing ANYTHING (exercise or food or drink), I've put ON 1.5 above what I was beforehand!I don't get it!!!!!! So frustrating! So, back to the drawing board for me. I have 4 days to lose 2 kilo's...
BUT, here's some exciting news for those who have known me for a while and who know my plight... guess who is joining the gym?YUP! ME! I have decided I need to shake up my cardio to more than just my treadmill at home... and since I seem to be doing ok on xtrainer and bike, I'm goign to join the gym to use them!!!!! AH HUH! YOU READ RIGHT! I spoke to D yesterday and he said he thinks I'm ready (on all levels) but we agreed I will wait until I can manage 15 minutes on both the xtrainer and bike without recourse. My plan is I will do 15 min on treadmill, xtrainer, and bike then leave. So I'll only be there for 45 min each time and the frequency will largely depend on my roster. D is being protective and wants to give me a free trial pass before I join just to make sure I can cope and my first time will be when he's rostered to work the floor just in case I have any issues. So.... who's excited?!
Alright, I feel like a heffaleffalump so am going to go get moving!
Stay active girls! And remember - with great persistence comes great rewards!
MG
Go MG!! Whooo hoooo!
You so totally ROCK!
I'm sure you'll do fine - just close your eyes (and think of us) for a bit if it gets a bit overwhelming!
I haven't been doing much ATM, but tonight I laid on the bed and DS sat on me so I jumped him up and down... my butt muscles were burning a bit after, so hopefully it was a quasi-workout!![]()
Awesome stuff MG!!! I'm very proud of you
I've tried the pillow between the knees but doesn't really help. It's kinda awkward as I co-sleep with DD so get stuck on one side most of the night.
I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and go back to a pilates class because I just never get any exercise done at home otherwise.
nellnell: You go girl!!Well done! And listen to whatever winter advises! She knows what she's talking about!
MG: YAY!!!!How exciting!! Hope you enjoy it!
Eluned - how is your hip flexor? I find the muscles I need to stretch when I hurt if I lay on one side are:
hamstrings
quads (so both front and back of legs)
hip flexor
glute
sometimes I need to stretch so badly but can't actually achieve the stretch... so I need to use those spikey balls from the physio. Sometimes it's a little hit and miss about where I place them (esp with glute) but I just move it around until I find the right spot. You'll know it's the right spot because it hurts like buggery like someone is kneading a knot out of you! But it is awesome! When I can't get an effective hip flexor stretch, I place two golf size balls with soft spikes in the area of my hip flexor. Then I lay on them. I apologise for being crass with the following description but it's the only way to really describe how to acheive the optimal result for releasing the muscle. With the balls in place whilst you lay face down, you move your hips up and down as though you are DTD - this kneads the muscles. You can also move your entire body up and down (like a log rolling back and forth head to toe not roof to ceiling) which releases it in another way. You can also move the balls around to get different aspects of the hip flexor which is actually a larger area than you'd realiseIf you don't want to buy the balls (about $10 each from the physio), you could try a tennis ball or something but try a smaller ball first. I use my baseball sized ball when I'm really bad but otherwise use my little ones.
Did that make sense?
Yesterday I had a bad start to my day with weakness down the side of my left leg and a sore lower back. It settled a little with my meds and stretching but my leg was persistent. But I still went for a 45 min walk with DD and then did a 25 min session on my treadmill plus some minor weights. I gave up at 25 min because I was struggling for some reason. I did do a jog for a few minutes which might have provided a hurdle... esp since the same thing happened tonight. But I've pulled up well after both bouts of jogging which is good for me! So exciting!
I am really looking forward to joining the gym although DH is now posing a $ issue which annoys me because he told me last week it would be fine! GRRRRR
Keep active girls!
Don't let DH discourage this MG.....u have no idea how stoked I am to hear you WILL be joining a gym! Classes will soon be on the agenda eh ;-)
I so so so wish we lived in the same state MG!!!! And you too Winter!!!!! Actually - ALL my fitness chics on BB - I wish you were ALL in SA :-) Oh, the fun we would have hehehehe!
I've been doing the odd RPM session in the garage, and took the dogs for a big walk this morning. It was good to get out of the house with no kids attached to me, ahhhh! So refreshing. Its the simple things in life eh?
MG - thats great news about joining a gym. I'm guessing they're not really your thing? or haven't been in the past? I must admit I was a bit afraid of gyms until about 6 years ago, then really got into it.
leesa - totally hear you about getting out of the house without kids. Love them dearly but it feels so good just walking out by yourself occasionally.
We might have to do a big Fitness Meetup! If the BB party animalsare the Cougars - what are we? We could all meet up without the kids and go for a run / hike somewhere for a couple of days! Starting of course with some PT sessions from Leesa & CQ!! Oooh yay, that sounds like MY sort of w'end!!
Got my next 10kn fun run on Sunday. I am not feeling as fit for this one, having a sick DD really cuts into the gym time. Doesn't matter if it hurts, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it! Just got to keep putting one foot in front of the other until I cross the finish line & I'm not going to worry about the time either. This one is just a practise run for the City to Surf where I start getting serious again.
Get sweaty girls!
Winter - you will ROCK for the run! You have all of us there in spirit to carry you if/when you struggle
Leesa - thanks hon. I knew you'd be stokedDH has given me the go ahead and D wants to give me a trial pass which will also waiver my joining fee... so will wait and see about that.
I think a fitness meet up is an awesome idea! A hike would be perfect! There are a couple around where you can hike and then stay in a cabin over night. And there are good (camping over night) easy to moderate hikes to cater for everyone. My ultimate hike is one in New Zealand which is 5 days and very full on. But you can take an easier option by having people carry your luggage for you so all you have to do is carry your day pack each day. And at night you stay in cabins.
Maybe we could have a BB relay or something and raise money for a children's related cause like SIDS or something! Now THAT would be awesome! We could each do a leg and have multiple goes. Running, walking, swimming, riding... it would be awesome!
I'm in!! That really would be awesome!! Get all the BB girls to sponsor us a dollar or two and we'd be raking it in!! What could we do?? My first thought was to walk across the Nullabor from Perth to Sydney collecting people on the way, but that's a bit epic! Lets keep an eye out for something that we could do....
MG - thanks for those tips. I do really need to stretch. I'm tight all over. My hip flexors are VERY tight and they usually are tight even before when I was fully into pilates and exercise. I did have to do the ball thing on them and you've reminded me to do it this time. You're right, it does help! I remember in pilates classes using the foam roller to iron out the kinks in my ITB (think that's what it's called, the one that runs down the side of your thigh). My goodness, that was ouch!
I'd be in for a fitness meetup too, but I'd have to get fit first
Winter, good luck for the run on Sunday!
Heather, how's the Zumba classes going?
Awesome idea - a BB fitness meet up - I love it - I am THERE already!!!
I love the line "Doesn't matter if it hurts, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it" Winter, it is seriously an inspirational quote. I might make that my FB status update now!!! You'll have your good and not so good days, but your mind and heart are in the right place - your attitude to doing this run on Sunday is awe inspiring (yet again). You rock sista!
MG - are classes on the agenda now hun?
Eluned - you have inspired me to stretch more - I'm so non flexible its a joke lol! Maybe I'll do a Balance class tonight once the kids go to sleep?
Mother Gooooooose! I am sure you will love the gym and hopefully get confident enough to have a go at some of the classes. Just a little something aside from fitness and chat, everytime I think of your user name I think of Top Gun, I love that movie and Goose was very cute
Eluned: I haven't been to a Zumba class since my first go. I am waiting for it to settle down in numbers so when I do go, I actually get to see the instructor and know what I am supposed to be doingHave you started back at Pilates? When I was doing Pilates,it was with a Physio, there were only 6 of us in the class and she would alter the moves for those who had injuries and get them to do something else altogether if it was a move they shouldn't be doing. It's more expensive than a gym run Pilates, worth it if you have specific injuries and as it is run by the Physio you can claim some of it back from your Private Health Insurance.
Winter: Love your idea...mmmm, how do we do it logisticallyTassie has some great Treks and Hills to climb. I like Eluned am not a strong swimmer, running and cycling no problems. Even skipping!
Have you had a look at Runner's World? It's a Magazine and online website. My DH loved it when he was training for his marathon and into the running.
Winter for you run on Sunday...you've got the fitness, have the T shirt, you know you can do it!
leesa: that is disappointing re: your PT client. Is she still showing up?? It must be soooo frustrating.
nellnell, welcome! Winter is certainly the Running Woman of the team!
Raupe: Well done on riding your bike. If you can fit that into your schedule, then you are doing a great job.
Well....it's cold, cold, cold here in Melbourne. May be a record today if we don't hit 10deg. I skipped Attack on Sunday as we had other plans.
I am off to Combat tomorrow, all three kids booked into the creche. I hope our usual Combat instructor is back. The fill in is good, it's just I am keen to just get back into Combat. Certainly need a decent warm up and cool down stretch in this weather!
Keep warm and active![]()
Maybe a walk somewhere is a go-er as everyone with even low fitness can walk.
Where is everyone? I'm in Perth & I know Eluned is in Perth too, Leesa in SA, MG in Melb? Heather is in Melb. Hmmmm...Tassie might be the central point!! or Alice Springs?![]()
