Woo hoo Jaki has had her baby. Check out the BA's

Ok ladies I'm having some trouble getting answers here. I need to start expressing before bubs gets here jic of the NICU situation. I posted this in another area and so far have had people tell me I will only get colostrum. I only want to know what is the machine that everyone would use to start expressing!!!!! I usually get milk before bubs comes so I'm not worried about just getting colostrum but I haven't had to do this before so need info on the machines. What is the softest and easiest expressing machine that you ladies know of. I can wait until Wednesday to see the midwife but it would be good to have the info before hand. My middie is more concerned about the new computer system atm than answering questions for me. She is a bit anal that way lol. Hope you ladies can help me

    Hey Ladies,
Just sticking my head in here for a quick question. How early did you get tested with your second pregnancy after having GD in your first? I was on insulin with DS 3 years ago and am now 19 weeks into this pg - I was just wondering when is the best time to test and if you know whether there's anything I can do to avoid it (well, probably not or you wouldn't be in this thread, der!).
    Thanks heaps!

Hey girls, just wanting to let you know the aftermath of the GD stuff with Wyatt...
    No special nursery
His levels were perfect for 24hrs, so no drama at all for us thank goodness. It is a relief considering he has not been drinking a huge amount as we are having some attachment issues

That is wonderful news Jaki. Sorry about the attachment issues and I hope they sort themselves out soon. Congrats again on little Wyatts arrival

Kim how did you go with expressing? Did you get any advice from the midwife re: what machine to use. Ive only ever used an avent manual pump which i didnt find very gentle. I wouldnt worry about only getting colostrum, its good for the baby anyway! Sorry you couldnt get a straight answer in your other thread - some people feel like they have to over-analyse and give their 2c worth I guess

Congratulations Jaki and welcome little Wyatt!!!! Thats wonderful news that he didnt need to stay in special care. Hope the attachment issues have been sorted xx

AFM... I had an OB appt yesterday and Im definitely booked in for a c/sect first thing on 12th April at 38+1 weeks. I asked about the baby having to go into special care and he said that its likely (because im now on 60units a day) and he's thinking at that level bubs will need monitoring for about 48hrs but that it depends on who the paed is. When I told him who ours was, he said that our paed was more relaxed than some of the older ones and is usally happy for the baby to stay with mum as long as things are stable. Apparently he's great with GD cases so I still have hope!! My levels have finally stabilised and will hopefully stay that way. Have another appt with OB next week - only 3 weeks to go!!!!

ETA: I had a scan last Wednesday to measure bubs and make sure all was well and it seems that the baby is right on 50th percentile so by no means a big baby which was a huge relief!!

teepee - haven't been to see the midwife yet (tomorrow) but have a breastfeeding clinic to go to for diabetic mums on the 6th April. I'm hoping that they can give me a bit more information about what I need to do. I will have to organise a tour of the NICU as well. Glad to see that bubs isn't going to be a massive one for you and wow at only 3 more weeks to go. I have so much to do before this baby comes I kind of hope they don't induce me lol. Yay for having an paed that is a bit more flexible and that you get to keep bubs with you.

I'm kind of dreading tomorrow as I have a feeling they will up my insulin again and maybe put me on novorapid for breakfast as well and up my dinner dosage. They may even up my protophane (long lasting) as well. Not sure who I'm seeing tomorrow. Think it is the midwife and the endo and maybe the diabetic educator again. The next appointment after that should be with an ob as well as everyone else I have my growth scan on Monday so will get to see Phoebe again I'm looking forward to that. I just hope everything is ok with her.

Take care ladies and not long now for some of us. Hope it all goes well

Well had ultrasound done today and Frogglette is just right for age She is measuring 2.56kg or 5lb 11oz with a head circumference of 31.15cm and is dead on the 50th centile. I'm hoping she stays that way lol.

I saw the diabetes educator last week and yep they upped my long lasting so I'm now on 30 units of protophane at night as well as the 4 units of novorapid at dinner. I also saw a dr instead of the midwife (as she was really busy) and the dr was great. She told me heaps of stuff that the midwife wouldn't have but she did tell me that I'm likely to be induced between 38 and 39 weeks instead as I'm on the insulin. That means Frogglette could be here in 4 weeks time

Hope everyone else is doing ok and gets on and posts soon

Thats awesome news Kim!! Its a huge relief to hear that the baby is right on track size wise isnt it Even though im having a c/sect i was still worried about having a big baby LOL. Its great that your got to see a Dr too, there's always things the educators dont think to tell you or we dont think to ask. 4 weeks is going to fly by!!! Hope your insulin dosage stabalise now. My OB mentioned the other day that once you hit 36 weeks things usually settle down and sometimes the levels even decrease

Not much change from me. Insulin has increased slightly, im now on 70 units a day - but ive kind of stopped counting now LOL. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks to go!!

Yay Jaki that is great news. I'm glad you are able to breastfeed now. Shield or not it doesn't matter xxx

teepee - I haven't hit the 36 week mark yet and some of my levels are starting to creep up there again especially after breakfast and dinner. I'm expecting to start/increase insulin in those areas after the next appointment (next wednesday). Oh well not much I can do about it so just have to accept it. Only 2 weeks to go for you teepee wow it must be coming up even more quickly for you now. Have you got everything ready???

Overall not feeling to bad. Getting a little down sometimes (something I will keep an eye on) and am having some mild panic attacks. Not sure why - as it's to places that I know and have been before but when ever I go out these days I get so sweaty (it drips off me) and heart rate increases and I feel like I'm going to faint. I'm hoping it is just stress related and not the start of something long term Will chat to the midwife on Wednesday about it.

Take care all and I'm looking forward to reading the next BA

Hi guys, not much happening, just getting irregular contractions every day. Currently on 16 units of novorapid and 2 units of protaphane still, so not doing too badly though my BSL's are starting to creep up again. Almost had a hypoglycaemic attack yesterday - my after lunch levels were down at 3.6 and started to get a nasty headache and cold sweats so had to get some sugars into me pretty quickly.
Other than that I'm booked in for tomorrow morning to have my waters broken, so hopefully by this time on thursday I'll be holding my Little Miss Dragonfly... which if anyone has me on FB, please don't say anything as hubby & I want to announce it ourselves first before having a whole heap of messages pop up on our FB walls
Feeling a bit crummy, been constantly nauseous since friday, so just trying to take things one day at a time right now.

    Hope you're all doing well!

Jenna I disabled my fb wall the day I went in to be induced so no one could write on it and reactivated it when we were ready

just popping my head in (had GD + insulin both my PG's), to tell you all about a new program with Diabetes Australia... which as ppl with GD you're all eligible for. Basically it's like a health coaching course (in person or by phone). I'm just about to start it now my bub is a bit older, but I was interested to see they changed the criteria so anyone with GD can do it. I'm using it to help me lose weight & reduce my diabetes risk (my post-birth GTT result was good, but the odds of getting diabetes post GD is still too high for my liking). Link is here.

KimB - noticed your post about expressing. I expressed colostrum (never got any actual milk) for a few weeks prior to my birth hoping to avoid top-ups. Took me a little while to really get good at handexpressing (it was pretty slow!!). I was told not to use a pump, but in retrospect I reckon I coulda tried (esp given the pump & I know each other pretty darn well!). I got the ok from my obs of when to start due to risk of bringing on early labour. I didn't get any extra BH at all from it. And the colostrum I expressed (30ml) saved us from top-ups by the skin of our chinny-chin-chin! (none of my bubs were ever able to attach prior to my milk coming in, so I had to express all the colostrum she got). I also liased with an LC prior to birth (due to feeding probs last time) so she reminded me about sterilising equipment & what to store it in etc. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask or PM me. We ended up getting little Decor "bright & healthy dressing tubs" (pack of 6) 35ml each, I think they were at Safeway or Woolworths. You want to freeze itin really small lots cos your bubba won't be able to take much at all, and of course you won't wanna waste it! GL!

Hey everyone, Little Miss Dragonfly was born on wednesday after a 4hr 43mn labour, successful VBAC too Weighed 8 pounds, 52cm long, 34cm head circumference. Her BSL's were perfect and she didn't have to spend any time in the nursery - in fact she never left me the entire time - and mine were back to normal the next day and have been perfect ever since, even when I've been naughty and had cake and chocolate and fish and chips.
Still sticking with most of the GD diet, but as I'm always hungry with the whole milk-producing thing I have to eat some things I wouldn't have eaten with the GD.

Hope you're all doing well and belly rubs to you all!

Yay Jenna. I congratulated you in the BA thread but here's another lol Welcome to Elise and good on you for having her with you for the whole time. It was really good that she didn't have to spend any time in the scn and that you no longer have GD. I'm hoping that is what happens to me.

belfie - thanks for all the info. If I don't get all the info I need on Wednesday I'll definitely PM you. I'm already leaking so if they tell me to use a pump then I probably could lol. Next appointment is Wednesday and I'll be nearly 36 weeks omg this is just going so quickly.

Another quick question. How do you control the sweet cravings???? I'm having terrible cravings at the moment and with the GD obviously I don't want to pig out but what else can I eat to satisfy the cravings. It is really getting to much. I'm trying to be so good and this is not helping lol. BTW I weighed myself today and I have put on 5.2kg this pregnancy. This takes me to 88.7kg. I was hoping to get down into the 70's after the birth of this one but the weight is coming on fast atm. Could this be due to the insulin or just bubs putting on the weight too? This GD is doing my head in
