The placenta plays havoc with your body while pregnant and family history does play a significant role. In my case, however, there was no family history but I do have polycystic ovaries which puts you at higher risk of GD and other diabetic conditions.

If I remember correctly, the steroid can affect your blood sugars for a day or so afterwards. I had the steroids with #2 and the ob warned my about the effect on blood sugars and my insulin dosage.
