I've never heard of any special diets or anything.
I've only had to do the fasting dealio.

I'm having a kinda really low day. I don't have them very often.
My after lunch levels were the same as my first morning one, at 4.1.
I'm feeling a little off anyways. I hate days like this. Lol.

    How's everyone else feeling?

    xx
Sorry you are having one of 'those' days.
I get them too. Still to this day and I am nearly at the finish line. My readings have been in the 7's today. I think it's all the stress and anxiety I am having today. Not good

    Hi everyone,

Tennykins and Cherii hope that you are both feeling better.

I go back to the diabetes clinic tomorrow, I'm getting a bit worried about the readings I am getting in the mornings..Today it was 8.1 and all I had was special k with bran and skim milk which is one of the breakfasts they reccomended.

Also I think morning sickness has kicked in again so I am finding it really hard to be able to eat what I need to and when I should be. I had a bit of stress too so that probably doesn't help!

Sorry if i sound a whinge bag, I don't mean to it's just a bit hard to get a grip on everything!

Good luck with the appointment tomorrow, Star.
I hope everything goes great and they help you out heaps.

Sorry to hear you're getting morning sickness again. I was lucky I didn't get that with this pg, I got it really bad with DS... I know would have struggled so much more with the diet and diabetes deal if I did get it.

    Hey, Cherii.
How many u/s did you need to have in the last part of your pg?
    Any extra then the usual?

I have only had to have 1 extra U/sound at 34 weeks at the hospital, it was called a Fetal Growth Scan so I could find out the baby's weight. If I wasn't to be induced early I was going to request another scan, as I was worried that she would be getting too big too quickly.

    Oh right. Thanks for that.

With DS I only had 1 in the end, somewhere after 35wks I think.
This time my OB wants me to have one each month, but if things are going great then we could push it to only 2 u/s and not 3.

It's better to be sure and safe then not, right.
I was stressing the bubba might grow too big for me, but so far it looks like we're right on track.
I have an u/s tomorrow so fingers crossed everything fits in nicely with my weeks.

I hope that everything sticks to being on track for you and your baby! I have absolutely no idea what size mine will be. I just hope she isn't too big. But I guess I wont know till she is born

Just because you have GD doesn't necessarily mean you will have a big baby. With my last baby I was diagnosed at 15 weeks with GD and was on insulin from week 16 (made for a very long pregnancy) and he turned out to be the smallest of all of my babies at 3600g (or 7lb 15oz) and 52cm. If GD is controlled then babies may not be too much bigger than usual. I cheated a bit this time as well, so I just took an extra bit of insulin to even it out.
That said, my first son was 3800g (8lb 9oz) when he was delivered at 37 weeks 3 days.
Good luck to you all with your BSLs. Just keep telling yourself that it will go away!

Everything looked fine with my u/s.

I was wondering if any of you had the names of any really good cook books.
I'm struggling for different things for dinner, and I don't know which cook books are good and worth the $$$ to buy.

there are some good cookbooks under the "new glucose revolution' series that are all low GI. But you know what i reckon are the best recipes and that s the ones in the diabetic living magazine. new issue is just out for may/june and full of yummy winter type foods all low gi etc. You can get diabetic living at the newsagent, it is put out by better homes and gardens every second and has heaps and heas of recipes every issue. Even hubby who is not D loves the recipes cos they are so yummy. One the the recent past back issues has an awesome meat pie recipe that is to die for!!

    Thanks, Melbel!

I actually saw that magazine today, but I wasn't sure if it was worth buying and I didn't have time to flick through it.
I think I'll get it. Thanks for that.
Hopefully my DP will like the stuff too. He's trying harder with the food and eating it with me now, but at first it was suchh a struggle.

Pasta doesn't really go real well for me. Just wondering if anyone else has issues with pasta and are there any particular types of pasta that are better then the others?

Sorry, I'm full of questions todayyyy.

HI everyone, hope you are all going well...

I think after a few trials I have finally got my morning levels down...Tennykins I am finding the same with pasta, despite the dietician telling me to eat it!

I had a 32 week scan today and was so pleased to see a cute bubby looking back and waving at me! Sonographer said she weighs only 1.7 kilos so only little, and still had a bit of growing to do, so the diabetes must not have impacted her yet.

Both of the girls I did the initial diabetes clinic with are now on insulin, thank goodness I'm not yet but can definately track the high readings due to stress etc...!

Thanks melbel for the tip on the magazine, I'll keep an eye out for that one!

    Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd check in. Is it just Tennykins, Stars and me left now? I'm sure I saw another thread that Cherii was having her bub a couple of days a go...... I hope everything went wonderfully Cherii!

Stars - Glad you're getting your levels under control now.... not long to go now! When I went to my endocrinologist on Monday she said that you have the most trouble with BSL's during weeks 32-34. She told me that if you make it through that time without insulin then you should be right. You can do it!

Tennykins - It must have been such a loooooong pg for you but sounds like you've got it all sorted now.

Me, well saw the endocrinologist on Monday morning and so did my first BSL after lunch. So far so good. I've got to be under 5.5 fasting and under 7.0 2hrs after meals. My BSL's have been consistently from mid 4's to mid 5's. (In fact in 5 days I've only had 3 BSL's above 5.5) I'm being very strict low GI but still making sure I have carbs with every meal. I'm probably just in denial but I'm questioning if I really even have GD ATM. I had my Hb1ac BT done too and it came back just fine. Remember I asked about diet before the GTT? Well I mentioned that I hadn't eaten carbs (or in fact anything very much in the 20hrs before the test ) and I was told that this would have definitely affected the results. Oh well, I'll know for next time. I see my endocrinologist again next Thurs so I'll see what she says.

One quick question..... what is the ideal BSL after eating? I'm worried now that mine's too low. I don't want a massive child but I would like a robust one

Anyway have a great weekend everyone. Hope you find some interesting food to eat!

Looks like it's just us left. I hoe you both fly through the last few weeks and everything goes smoothly.

Star - Great to hear about your morning levels and the 32wk scan. That's awesome news. It sucks about the pasta doesn't it. I find I want it more now cause I know I can't have it. LOL.

principessa - Great about your levels. Mine are all 4's and 5's, a rare 3 here and there.
All I know about the after meal reading is it's suppose to be between 4 and 8. I wasn't given any other levels besides the usual ones to go by. Might have to ask about it next time.
Lol. Yeah, at first this pg was dragging on, but now it's like the weeks fly by and It's going faster and faster.

How many times do you ladies test a day?
I test 2 times a day, whenever I feel like it basically. I always do the morning one but I vary it up for the other time (sometimes 2 other times) throughout the week.

Sadly...... I am still here with you until Monday if a miracle doesn't occur between now and then. I just posted about it in general preg discussion. I was so glad to see the back of the blood levels testing and injecting insulin....but now I am back at it for a few more days yet

I had to have levels before eating under 5.5 and then no more than 6.5 after eating (2 hours later).

    Hi Everyone,

Cherii - Sorry you're still here but only 2 sleeps left now Wishing you all the best for a great day on Monday. I'm sure that all this stress will be totally worth it. Good luck!

Tennykins & Stars - Are you planning to have your bubs early or be told you should have them early? Me, I'd already planned to have an elective C/S at 38+4 long before I'd been diagnosed with GD so that's all taken care of for me..... only about 5 1/2 weeks to go! The only thing that could change would be if I develop PE or toxaemia in which case bub will be out earlier than that (no sign at all of it yet though - just some mild hypertension that seems to be totally stress related ) I'm having a growth scan in 2 weeks so we'll see if they say bub is huge or not. My OB has told me that bub does seem large. I'm not overly surprised though - my DH is 6ft5" and he was 60cm long when he was born. This bub could well just have REALLY long legs

As far as testing goes, I've got to do 4 tests per day. ATM I'm doing fasting first thing in the morning and then 2 hrs after breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hopefully after my appt on Thurs I can relax on that a little - its not much fun is it! I have a whole new appreciation for people who live their lives with diabetes now.

Sorry to hear that Cherii. Hopefully things start on their own, and good luck on monday.

principessa - I was told I wouldn't be allowed to go over my due date, but that's all I know. I definately want to go natural this time around too. A C-section scares the hell out of me. I was early with my DS, so hopefully this time I'll be early too. My DP is around that tall aswell and I'm only 5'2. Lol. So far we know this bubba has really long legs. Just like DS did/does.
I have to wait 2wks to see what my OB says about the scan results from the other day though, and to know if he's happy with it all or not.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the info on what the readings should be. In the clinic they haven't given me a preferred range, but when they checked my readings I had noted down they seem okay. It looks as though about 70% of my results are between 4 & 7 so fingers crossed things are going okay.

I test three times a day, two hours after eating.

I find out tomorrow if I have to have a caesar or not, hopefully I will be able to go naturally as I am on my own and the recovery time after an operation sounds a bit daunting.

Do they like you to go earlier if you have GD? All one dr at the hospital has said to me is that I can't see my dr for shared care any more because of the diabetes, I have to keep going to the hospital.

Tennykins I know, re the pasta. I made up a Weight Watchers pasta dish that I used to really enjoy pre pregnancy yesterday...not only did a small piece give me serious heartburn, but it pushed me over 7 as well

These readings can be so hard to manage and I'm sure I'm not eating anything bad...fruit, dry biscuits, yoghurt for snacks.

Cherii, good luck with the baby!

    Hi every one

just wondering how do your appointments go with the GD clinic Im moving to The sunshine coast from Ireland in 5 weeks and I have gd diet controlled at the mo

But I normally go to the hospital fasting get bloods taken eat a breakfast then go back and hour later for a non fasting reading then its to see the midwifes they do blood pressure and check your pee then wait on the baby doctor after the baby doctor ive to wait for my blood results to come back before i see the Diabetic doctor takes for ever

At the moment I don't have to check my bloods at each meal only when im on Insulin but When i do its usually before i eat then an hour after i eat and they have to be 5 or under before i east and under 7 I think an hour after how do the GD doctors work it there please

any information would be great make it a whole lot easier if i know what to expect
    Thanks
