my levels have been up and down some good some bad but im watching them and being really strict on my self I was on my last pregnancy and baby was still a bit big and I was induced early as well but in saying that ild do that birth 10 times it was brill compared to my other two baby's

snowchickie79 enjoy the baby shower and the food even better when its nice and does'nt effect the sugars in a bad way

    Hi Guys!
I'm going to be having a basic u/s at the drs office at my 37 week check (the day your due Tenny I think) just to see where he's positioned, but won't be able to really tell size then.
The dr told me that GD babies tend to have lots more fluid around them and I'm not really that big yet, so I'm hoping that means he won't be too big a baby. But not counting on it.
SnowChickie - so gald your levels are doing fine. Might pay to mention to your dr that your fasting level is a little on the low side. I don't mean to scare you but under 4 is going into hypoland, but you probably don't have to worry about that if your not on insulin.
Enjoy your baby shower. Your levels seem to be doing really well, so I wouldn't be too concerned about splurging at your baby shower. My levels are higher than yours (and I'm on insulin) and I splurged a little and my levels were fine.
As for the sweet potato...hmmm.....maybe sprinkle with a little nutmeg or cinnamon? Would normally recommend brushing with maple syrup but that's out for all of us now!

Hope everyone's having a great day!

Niamh75 - OoO. wow. Biggish babies before. Did you have GD for those two pgs or just this time around? my Ob thinks this bubba will probably 8lb something. So nothing majorly huge.
We're hoping that I have the baby in the next 2 weeks. Fingers crossed. I'm over it. Lol.

Becci - I didn't know with GD pregnancies you tend to have more fluid. Did your dr say why? I think I'm much the same size as my first pg, although it's hard to really tell cause I packed on loads of weight that time and this time I haven't at all.
Exciting about your scan. I had 4 u/s all together with this pg. Even though in the end it was harder to lay on my back longer without making me feel sick, I enjoyed seeing the baby more often.

At the moment I'm thinking about what the babys bsls will be when it's born.. like I hope everything goes fine with that.

Nah, all he said is it tends to be what happens. So I found it comforting that if my belly gets huge it's not necessarily because bubs is huge.
I haven't really worried about bubs levels, more about the breathing etc problems that might occur. But I'm at a big hospital so all will be fine I'm sure.
More worried that mine won't drop. Selfish I know, but I'm really hanging out for a carbs and choccie splurge!

Yeah, it's really quiet in here. I feel like I've seen all these people come and go from this section but I've been here forever. It feels like it's never ending sometimes. Lol.

Great to hear all your levels are going great! All mine have been under 6, with an occasionally 6.0 in there.
Sorry, I don't really eat sweet potato. No ideas for you.
Is the swelling in your legs just from fluid? I've been lucky not to get any swelling this pg. I got a fair bit with my DS though.

Yay! Your baby shower. I hope it all goes well and you have a fantastic shower!!!!!!!!
tennykins - Yeah seems very quiet. Ah for the day when we don't need to be in here and can just provide a wealth of knowledge. Fluid is just swelling, OB said normal and PG related but seems to be good last few days. I find a bath helps it.

Hello how is every one doing
snowchickie79 enjoy the baby shower and the food even better when its nice and does'nt effect the sugars in a bad way
Niamh - I plan to!!! Endo said i don't have to test that day, I'll do my after b'fast level but that is all. I'm not going to go really silly with sweets but if i want cake, by golly i'm going to have cake. I'm making lamingtons and my sister has made cute cupcakes. yummy.

    Hi Guys!

BecciI've tried the cinnamon on the s'potato but not helping much. still taste the blandness underneath. ahh the boredom..

I actually had a work lunch today to farewell 2 girls at work, i had hot chippies and some chicken with a diet coke and my level was 6.9 after lunch so although over 6 was still under 7. Endo said that if over 6 and i can explain why then that is ok... I had a safe dinner though and will be a good girl tomorrow in preparation for a blow out on Sunday. I see my Endo next Wednesday so hopefully he is happy with how i'm going. My oB this week was happy and said weight is good and bub size is good. I'm really worried about bub size as OB told me from the start, prior to any GD, that a baby over the mid 6 pound range would be tricky birth for me due to my size (i'm petite and have tiny hips) so although the idea of a 7 or 8 pound baby is not considered big under any circumstances, it may present me with a problem which would have been there regardless of having GD now.

Tennykins yep gd in all of them although I think they missed it in my second pregnancy my biggest baby I had loads of sugar but my GP never wrote it down the fool I was very lucky with the baby being ok well he was fine for breathing he did have a few other little problems mainly to do with the delivery though we both were in bits after wards but this is my second pregnancy on insulin I was on more the last time I was hoping i could avoid more injections but not looking good I checked my sugars two hours after breakfast they were 8.5 bit high Ill see what the doctors say on Tuesday have to see every one that day GD doctor and educator and baby doctor.I have a scan Monday bit nervous about that and every thing being ok

snowchickie79 have some for me please have a great time

Becci i know with my last baby I had loads when they broke my waters I remember saying to the midwife omg there is loads more than I remember with my other babies she just laughed it off and my DH said sure you know what thats like being my third but I kept saying no this is more Im soaking then the midwife lifted my sheet and there was loads puddles of it LOL they might listen the next time eh. but may be its the same this time and its not all baby in my tummy cause i feel and look huge now and ive 8 weeks left . its only you said about more water i remembered

hope ever one has a great weekend now

Niamh - So in your pg that they didn't put your on insulin cause the DR forgot to write it down... after the baby was born was he/shes BSLs ok?
I'm worrying about it a bit lately about it.

I don't think I have that much fluid this time. I feel like I'm all baby, and just have a basketball up my top half the time. lol.

Snowchickie - I hope the swelling goes down. Nothin' worse then feeling like a huge whale in pg with swollen cankles. I had that last time.

Had my baby shower on Sunday and had 2 cupcakes (yummo) and a few lamingtons in a mix of sandwiches made with my GD-safe bread, fruit, and a few hot mini quiches.. Also had a few small glasses of diet coke and then water and had a great day. I got SOOOO many presents that it was ridiculous.

I'm at home at present on sick leave so have been putting all the baby things away and sorting out what I've got and what I still need (which is NOT much at all).. My last day of work is next Wednesday and then I'm done!!! Bit earlier than anticipated but with the curve balls I've been thrown at work it was the best decision to keep my stress levels under control.

Allergies still no better and in my "peeling like a snake phase" right now. I'll get a day or two of nice skin and then it'll flare up again I'm sure.. Swelling is the same and legs look alot bigger than normal but managing.

Levels have been good.. Are levels in the 4 range considered low?? I'm averaging in the 4 and early 5 range but I'm wondering what levels are considered too low?? I seem to be able to treat myself with not much issue with my BSL.. Tonight I tried a Rice Pudding (Low GI), the Le Rice ones, for after dinner snack. I don't normally test my fasting level (haven't been told to) but i'll check it tomorrow morning to see how the pudding has gone.

Have my Endo apt tomorrow so fingers crossed he is happy with things..
    Chat soon.

Great to hear your baby shower went well! Whoohoo!
I bet you're hanging out to finish work. I know I would be.

I'm not sure what's considered low really.
My levels are all under 6. Sometimes I get a 6.0. Mostly in the 5's during the daytime. My fasting ones are all in the 4's sometimes low 4's, but mostly mid range 4's. I even get a 3.something here and there.
    Sorry I can't help anymore.

I haven't tried that rice pudding but I've looked at it a few times. I had some custard the other day. Homemade custard and it actually went well. I was so suprised.
I'm loving bananas lately, but they don't seem to like me. :P

    Maybe ask your Endo.
    Good luck with your appointment.

Glad to hear that your Baby Shower went of great.
I finished work on Sunday and I love it. Even though I wa only doing four shifts a fortnight in the end it's one less thing I have to do now.

Sorry to hear of your stress at work, but I guess you'll be finished soon so won't have to worry about it. Is that why your allergies are playing up?

As for the low bsls. I wasn't told anything about low bsls until I went on insulin. So maybe they are only a concern once on that. I was told that a reading under 4 was considered a hypo and then taught how to 'fix' it. But from memory your not on insulin so it's probably not a concern for you. If your worried mention it to your GP or Endo for your own info.

Taking a fasting reading after eating the Le Rice won't tell you anything unfortunately. Sugar levels peak 1.5 - 2 hours after you eat, so that's the best time to check. By the time morning comes your levels aren't reacting to what you have eaten. Which is why it's been so hard for me to keep my fasting bsls undercontrol without insulin. It's not related to what I am (or not) eating.

Thomas Robert was born on the 2/7/08 at 9.55pm after an induction, 3.41 kilos and all was well with him. We came home on Monday, he has had a little jaundice which we are feeding out of him and so far he has been pretty quite.

Will post more later - got to go feed!

hello glad you enjoyed the baby shower

For me any thing under 3.5 is considered a hypo the common effects are : nervousness, trembling, sweating, palpitations , tiredness, headache, intense hunger, double vision( this would be a bad sign meaning they are very low)difficulty concentrating, tingling lips and tongue, slurred speech, unsteadiness or drowsiness.

any body can get a hypo only if you have Diabetes you need to treat it I think its more relevant when you are on insulin as if you are late having lunch have low blood sugar and take your insulin it might send them to low for your lunch to bring them back up quickly enough so you would feel fairly crappy so If mine are low ive to treat it ie something sweet recheck 15 minutes later then if im due to eat take my insulin and have some food.
I have noticed that sometimes mine can be 3.9 and i start to feel bad shaking hands feel light headed my lowest has been 3.2 so far I did have a 1.1 once but that was on my last pregnancy during labour LOL

Go by more on how you feel make sure you are eating enough and not hungry and I think the important thing is to make sure you eat regularly but I think you are controlling them very well if they are 5 two hours after you eat what did the doc say

    Thanks Girls!

No we did not want to know before hand, and it was DH who was the first to look. The induction was at the end of the 37th week (due to my use of insulin) and it went well, if any of you want details for your own planning let me know - but it was a normal birth (well, kind of, with gels, ARM and Sync to make it happen) and NO C SECTION or EPI!! (the two things I was worried about).

Things are going well and I will not mention what I have treated myself too over the past week or so.

I hope all of your BSL's are going well and I look forward to hearing good news from you all over the next few weeks.

Great to hear that all is going well Petals.

At this stage I'm due to be induced sometime in my 39th week. I have an app next friday so hopefully I'll find out a date then.
I'm also worried about a c/s but if it's necessary then fine. I had an epi with ds so not so worried about that.

I can only imagine what you have treated yourself to this week. I have a huge list for myself too lol

Hope everything continues to go well for you and bubs.

I must have been having one of those pregnancy brain monets this morning when I posted.
When I said epi I meant episiotmoy, but I'm sure that you meant epidural! I only realised this coming home from footy this arvo! lol
