I'm hoping to be Sept rather than Oct.. Don't wish 42weeks on me!

I'm so itchy for my Midwife to call, I have been accepted to the CMP program in Perth, but am yet to hear from the Middy/s i have been given. I was on the CMP last time and it all got stuffed up and i swapped to an IM at 38w.. I'm going to stay relaxed and go with the flow this time.. My IM is not working unfortunately so that option is not there.. THe CMP is far from perfect but the other option was 1hr travel to hospy and i dont fancy that drive thanks very much.

Sounds like there is lots going on cricket! I'm glad that midwife is last in line!

Sounds wonderful lady neon! Looking forward to hearing more about your planning

So excited for you PZ... can't wait to hear more from you too. I esp. love sharing the melbourne mama's journeys seeing I had my HB there and researched the MWs there too... can't wait to find out who you pick. I went through Midwives Naturally and love my MWs

We were very blessed to have Cassius and her gorgeous family come and stay over the weekend. She's looking fantastic (of course) and it was so lovely to chat birthy stuff with a fellow home birthy mama

    HotI you're the best

Bella, so good to see you back. I STILL have boxes I haven't unpacked and I moved in two years ago!

Lady neon , I used music in labour and it was great, but it did start to annoy me (transition anyone?) and I cracked it and demanded 'dh turn that crap off now!'. Sadly that has tainted that album for me (as you suggested cricket)

I'll probably sing to distract myself! I don't think music will be tainted... but then again I have no idea as I've never done it before. Or, I could just listen to DH's music for distraction, I don't really like it anyway I might do a mix of playlists and they're there if I decide I need I guess.

I should do some sort of rough birth plan for hossy, I'll probably wimp out and end up there anyway but either way, I'll have my DH, mum, SIL, midwives & student midwife and they all know what I want! So hopefully one of them will stand up for me if I get transferred, or stick up to me if I wimp out haha. All I want is as natural as possible and no formula for baby. I'll source donated breast milk if I have to!

So experienced homebirthers.. must haves for homebirth? What should I prepare that I might not be told about? I'm starting to get quite nervous! I've had nothing but support from everyone about our birth choice but I still can't help but feel some doubt. Does that ever go away?

I'm in Perth Cassius so it'd be a bit warmer, either way we've got an refridgerated air-con & a gas heater in the lounge so I think I'll be ok. (Seriously, 35 degrees in April, WTH Perth?!)

    Oh and what's an episiotomy?

Sounds like you've got a great support team, Lady Neon! I've never written out a proper birth plan either - just sort of talked things over with my midwife and made sure we were on the same page about the essentials.
An episiotomy is a cut made in your perineum as the baby is about to be born to allow him/her to come more quickly if he/she is in distress, or if the doctor thinks that you will tear really badly, and wants to try to minimize that by making a controlled cut instead. The second reason is generally considered a bad idea these days - usually tearing is better, but you can discuss the pros and cons with your midwife/ob.

I have been reminded lately of how fortunate i was in my latest pregnancy to have a supportive healthworker who respected my wants and rights. If every woman was able to experience this, the world would be such a nicer place.

PZ, my labour was pretty quick this time. Perhaps if i had a longer labour, more people would have helped? Maybe wait til you know your midwife to decide on your doula and other supports. My midwife offered a second midwife at the birth for the same cost. I think some IMs have extra costs if you want 2 midwves at the birth. Do you have a friend you would feel comfortable in having there to take photos and be lackey ? I would have liked to get a few more photos, or possibly video (just for me to watch), and maybe having someone with that dedicated job would have made that possible. I was expecting a much longer labour and thought i would be able to set more things up. I'm not disappointed in how things went, just may change a few things if we ever did it again.

After baby was born, and it took awhile to birth the placenta and i was unwell, i was glad that there were only a few people there. If there were more, i think i would have been worried about putting them out, but having just the midwife sitting next to me and the student cuddling DS for me was the best thing.
