Oh Em, that does sound like it quite the oddessy how has recovery been?

Mirimum: we had the same when i was planning DD2s birth. i think many ppl believe that HB is done with no planning or preparation that you just waddle around the house and out pops a baby little do many know that most HBs take ALOT of planning and preparation and knowledge is the key. i never knew so much about my body or baby or situation in general as when i was preparing for DD2s birth (as opposed to DD1s where i just followed along the path directed by the OB...who was nice and all, but you know, not there for me ITMS).

Welcome Turtlejane! Congrats on the new little one on the way!

Yes, it is funny how people look at homebirth. I was reading through a birth story on another forum, and was thinking the whole time "This would have been so much easier if you had just stayed home!" The birth went fine, over all, but every difficulty was hospital related - packing up the other kids and dropping them off, driving to the hospital and encountering bumpy roads and traffic troubles, trying to get up to the labour and delivery floor in hard labour, trying to answer admitting questions while in transition, being required to lie down for monitoring, having to hold still for blood work, having to wait to push until the doctor got there, etc., etc. If she had stayed home, everyone would have come to her, and the whole business could have been much easier!

We're doing well here. DH got fifth disease as well, but he's over it now, and Anna has thrush and we discovered she has a femoral hernia, but that's no big deal right now, and should close on it's own. She slept so well last night! Only woke up once between 11pm and 8am.

Wow, Em. What an awesome benefit of feeding through pregnancy. I know that wasn't always easy for you. Love to hear your story when you are ready.

Em I'm looking forward to reading the birth story bummer it was long and drawn out but am glad all ended up ok.

I find myself generally saying your best chance of a normal birth is to stay away from obs, private hospitals and any hospital if you can!
Me too.. and I've never given birth hahaha

Tegam: well, if your dad will eat them, they gotta be alright surely lol?
Well if he's anything like my dad, you wouldn't be able to go by that. He eats anything!

It's great to see the list of home birth babies here, really encouraging. I'll be birthing at home too (as long as nothing goes horribly wrong) but I've been really surprised by how scared and off put friends/family are by the notion! It's just really lovely to see other women choosing to home birth and being fine.
My family has had mixed responses. DH suggested HB, SIL had her 2 at home so is supportive, all the women are supportive but the men are hesitant. Dad and brother are particularly concerned and keep trying to talk me out of it. I think they're thinking of a free birth, or a little old lady with a wart on her nose, a cackle and a rusty razor. LOL when the news showed the 3 HB's in SA my bro rang me up to warn me that could happen.

Those who mentioned birth pools, I was going to hire one purely because I wouldn't know what to do with it afterwards. When do I need to get that organised?

Welcome turtlejane and congrats! Good to get a 2013 list underway. I think I know who you are, but since I don't usually call you turtle, feel free to enlighten me!

Em, birth is hard work but it sounds like you put in a great effort. Looking forward to reading your birth story.
