Oh I bet directed pushing would take longer- who in their right mind thinks they can tell you when to push? You feel it in your body- someone else can't judge that precisely.
Both labours I was "coached" to push harder, but not when (well, with the exception of a teeny final push to get my second baby's foot out). First labour it felt like ages of "push harder, harder, harder" and itsucked. That was to avoid transfer and vacuum due to running out of hospital allowed pushing time. Second labour it was just on the final push as head was out and shoulders hadn't budged so it was to check he wasnt stuck. I tore both times and most likely as a result of the coached "harder" pushing both times too.
yeah this second time the only coaching was when her head came out and Nic told me to try not to push. so different to last time when they were going insane with the telling me when, how and for how long...it was insane.
I didn't have coached pushing last time, if anything I was trying not to push and Anna was telling me to push if thats what my body wanted to do... lol She just directed (not coached) at the very end so I wouldn't tear, but I absolutely could not breathe her out, I had to push her head out with all my might!!!
Its good that the pushing time goes down though, I'm hoping for not as long this time
I'll let her know you have commanded her arrival, Melly!
Had massive unhappiness in my back last night, some moderate BH at the front... Actually had to rock for 2 hours on my glider foot stool lol DH was fab though, and she is sooo much lower than she was on Thursday. Yay for progress!
Never been coached as to when or how hard to push, just told to go with what my body wanted to do and a few "breath now" as the heads crown so i didnt tear. Pushing stage gets much quicker girls, even if the labour doesnt! Well thats what happened for me
Awesome!! I'd be happy with a 10 minute pushing stage.. lol.. dreaming? perhaps...
Alexis - yes! Write her the marching orders and give them to her.. could be a tad painful for you though - can you imagine paper cuts up there? ooochies...
