Ash: oh sweets! this is not cool, not cool at all!

i reckon this new IM will be the one!

that said, i reckon the IM that baulked at the 75 mins was a bit harsh. My IM was an hour and half away when i went into labour and she was attending the birth of another baby...and she was able to do it all! that said, if anything were to stop her we had a backup...argh! it is all so hard!! why can't we have REAL access to birth choices??!!!

Thanks Arcadia, Tegam and Cassius. I know you guys 'get' it. The thought of a hospital birth after two beautiful home births is not an attractive proposition. Just the thought of entering the 'system' is bad enough.

I will call the midwife that has now been suggested to me - I would love to sort this out now, but she is away for 2 weeks. I have my fingers crossed that she is the 'one'.

On a positive note, we had our 20 week scan today - all is well with bubs. We didn't find out the sex. DH wanted to know, but I stuck to my guns. The sonographer told us to look away a couple of times (when she was looking near the genitalia) but my DH looked. I asked him if he saw anything. He reckons it might be a boy. I guess we will find out in about 20 weeks!

Thanks again for your support - I really appreciate it.

Ash, good luck with the midwife. Sounds like it might work out with her being so close. I bet NZ trained midwives struggle in the Australian system.

Good luck with finding a MW. It must be hard to be so far along without things settled. Fingers crossed this MW can help you out.

Afm well we were turned down by another OB for backup care, but I am at peace with it. Had a MW appointment on Tuesday and it was lovely. Really starting to bond wiith her. Baby is moving heaps! Starting to want it to have more rest periods just because I wonder about this bubbas personality if it is this active! Maybe that is a greater indication that it is a boy? Anyway feeling good mostly, really enjoying the pregnancy.

Ash - thinking of you and really hope this midwife works out for you fingers crossed! So great to hear your scan went well and bubs is healthy

How is everyone else doing? I haven't had much time to check in lately!

I start birth classes on Monday night...midwife appointment Tuesday - down to fortnightly appointments now! I think m/w appointment after the next is birth planning meeting? It's all coming around so fast! Baby has been in LOA position now for about 3 weeks - still super active though - feels like kicking and stretching! I'm feeling good and strong and positive, although starting to feel pretty tired and looking forward to finishing up at work

i have thought of a couple of qu to ask my midwife, but thought i would find out what other people have done too.

did your HB bubs have newborn screening (the heel pr1ck test)? was this done at home, or did you have to go somewhere for it?

did your HB bub have a hearing test done? how did you organise this? where was it done?

Eutra- who are you doing your birth classes with?

My tummy is getting quite sore, i have a tubigrip that i wear most of the time, but i have to get a new one. I think i am also getting a bellywrap.

I ordered a womama birth wrap today, have been looking at them for ages so hope i like it when it arrives lol It's kinda wierd the things i am thinking about this time, quite superficial things (what will i wear? don't take photos near the carpet cos it shows the stains). maybe i will think deeper later, or maybe i am feeling supported and figure the birth side of it will work itself out.

we are having trouble finding names we like. we have a few on our list from last time, but no new ones are jumping out at us. hoping we can get at least 2 boy and 2 girl names and then see which fits baby best.

i have just had a lovely spa and have a clean bedroom with clean sheets so am heading to bed to enjoy them.

    sweet dreams!

Bella, would you mind PM'ing me your MW details by any chance?

Hot... do you have muscle separation? I had it rather bad with Elijah and it scares me that if I have another it's going to be worse than then. I had to tubigrip after the birth to hold my tummy up and in enough otherwise I could barely walk. With the support, I could though but it was really tender. I couldn't use the tubigrip for long though and was worse when I was pg cos it kept rolling up across my back and digging in so bad that it looked like I had enormous welts! What is the womama wrap? Maybe you could PM me a link?

Thanks, and I hope you girls have great HB's!!!

Bella my ds was soooooo active and he then got sooooo quiet in the last few weeks, to the point I almost had a scan. He was born with the longest cord my midwife had ever seen (over a metre) and she said active bubs usually have longer cords. dS was also born tangled in his cord, but because it was so long it wasn't an issue (it was a great birth at home).

HotI yes we had the heel test at home for both babies, and then for the hearing test I had to organize it with the university of Melbourne audiology clinic. It was free, and baby has to be less than four months old, so there's heaps of time. Bub has to be asleep though, so obviously it's easier when they're newborn and will sleep through anything.

Best wishes to all you other preggies.

Yep, i had muscle seperation from about 20 weeks with my DD, it got to 6cm after she was born. I got it back to about a 2cm gap before this pregnancy. I haven't measured to see what i am at now. I also have a hernia t my belly button this time that i think is related. Yeah, i get the tubigrip rolling down my back too. My midwife gave me a number to call for someone who makes bellywraps, will let you know if i find it any good. The womama birth wrap is just a funky dress thing that looks really comfy, it doesn't give support to the tummy. If you google 'womama birthing wrap', you will see it. https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums/f21/womama-168774/

Thanks for that, i didn't know you could get the hearing test done up to 4 months- even better that you don't have to go to hospital for it.

HotI: yep your IM can do the heel test at home . the amazing thing is that you can BF your baby when they do it and they sleep/feed right through it! breastmilk is amazing for pain relief! i just remember DD1 screaming and being manhandled last time so the difference this time was phenomenal!

Ash: i reckon this IM will be the one

Thanks Hot! I have a belly belt thing which is supposed to help, dunno how much it does, but it certainly is more comfortable but a little awkward to get firm enough, particularly when you have this massive belly hanging out everywhere lol. I'm not sure how bad mine got with Elijah, but I remember the night I felt it happen, OMG the pain was rather excruciating! I'm still somewhere between 2 and 3cm I think. I just can't get it better than that. So I know that if we have another, I need to really nurture my belly right from the get go and really help it and give it as much support as I can. This is how I looked just before having Elijah lol... hmmmm massive but I did get over people being totally shocked by my belly :/ https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater you should be able to see it, I set it to public.

Wow Ozzie, that is one impressive belly! No wonder you have muscle separation - there is only so far they can go before something has to give!

Beansbeans, I hope that your appointment goes well

I BF through the heal ***** all three times and they all screamed anyway
