Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception April/May 2014
Oh positively I am so sorry your transfer has been cancelled because your embie didn't survive the thaw As Miss B said, I know you were so ready and excited - so I am just devastated for you...
I am sure I posted last night, but then I thought your post was slightly different as well? So maybe you updated your post - but my post has disappeared entirely? (either I'm losing my mind or it just didn't upload... So please know I did pop in to say good luck and I saw your message and responded accordingly, but it must not have uploaded ) I just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and am here if you need anything.
I have everything doubly crossed for you that you get your natural miracle! Your still in the 2ww! You BD'ed at just the right time so your def in with a shot at getting your happy ending. Stranger things have happened!
Joski - fingers crossed the o is happening as we speak! You have the perfect excuse for a weekend spent in bed Great timing that it is the weekend, so you can BD as much as you want! I'm sure your DH will be thrilled!
Juniper - yay for OPk's! That's fantastic that your sister conceived her baby naturally on a cycle with late O! And she has a beautiful little newborn I love hearing happy stories like hers. I don't know if this is relevant to you at all - but I just thought I would mention it because you said something in your previous post that I can relate very closely too! I also experienced horrifically heavy periods almost from the day I started menstruating. Unused to have to miss school for the first few days of my cycle because I was either in excruciating pain, or I would faint from the heaviness of my cycle.
About a year ago my gynae (who is also my FS and was my OB until he retired in June 2012) suggested we do some exploratory tests to see if we could get to the bottom of what was causing my AF to be heavy, very painful, long in duration and with lots of clots (sorry for the TMI but I would be interested in whether you experience the same symptoms..?) at that time I have developed a new symptom - which was mid cycle bleeding). My AF would finish and then a few days later I would start spotting again. Sometimes it would just be spotting and other times it would be like I had my AF again. At first it didn't worry me but when we decided we definitely wanted to try for our final baby, we thought it might be time to investigate and find out what was going on...
I went to see my gynae/ FS and explained all the symptoms I was suffering (he put me on Endone for the pain - which is pretty heavy and I knew wasn't sustainable eg I didn't want to be taking it every month!) and sent me off for a vaginal ultrasound (I had to wait as the best time to have this kind of scan/ test is 1 or 2 dues pre ovulation). Anyway, I had been OPKing having BT's to track and the numbers leading in to ovulation were really good....
Went for the ultrasound and I was shocked when the lady doing it said I had 3 really good sized follicles on my right ovary (none on my left which is pretty standard post surgery) but that I was not going to ovulate that cycle? So it was an anovulatory cycle. She also found Andomyosis (which is basically endo but inside your uterus). She gave me the scans and I waited for the report and she sprang my gynae/ FS and asked him to fit me in again that afternoon.
When I saw him, he explained what Andomyosis is (turns out this is what he was testing for all along, but he didn't want to mention it to me unless the scan showed that I had it, which it did). I had never heard of it - but I now know that it is basically endo - but inside your uterus). As for the anovulatory cycle... I hammered him with questions as I didn't understand how I could have several good sized follicles and that my bloods were saying I was going to ovulate - but I apparently wasn't. Anyway we kept ov tracking and basically the levels kept rising and I had the normal symptoms ewcm etc except they were sure nothing was going to be released... It turned out that although the levels were rising - they never actually 'peaked' so essentially they rose, but not enough to trigger the release of eggs from the follicles... He did explain it, numerous times but I still couldn't and don't really understand it...
Anyway - he booked me in for a D&C (which I really didn't want to have because I am paranoid that they weaken your cervix and can make it hard to carry a viable pg to term and I'd already had 2 - 5 years ago after several miscarriages...) which I had at my fertility clinic (didn't like that bit much either) and when I woke up he came to see me in recovery and explained that I did have Andomyosis I was pretty devastated as we knew we wanted a final baby and he had already explained that the only long-term cure for Andomyosis and the pain and heavy bleeding it causes - is a hysterectomy.
Why am I even raising this? Sorry for the stupidly long post about something none of us want to think about... I guess because I had never heard of Andomyosis (endo yes and I had had my last lot of endo removed after DS 4.5 was born) and I didn't realize that having it could prevent a future pg from implanting properly. So when I described my symptoms to him, it was the mid cycle bleeding and the heaviness and associated pain that made him think I might have Andomyosis.
I had the D&C about 3 months ago and he said after scraping all the Ando out - that the mid cycle bleeding should disappear and my AF should be lighter and less painful. He was correct the mid cycle bleeds stopped and while my AF has remained heavy, I no longer experience the clotting that I did previously! He said that it would increase my chances of falling pg in any future cycles within the next 6 months (apparently after that it can start to grow again, same as endo).. Anyway, I just thought it might be something worth investigating for you, if your additional bleeding after AF doesn't go away? I really only thought of it after I noticed in your signature that you had suffered previously with severe endo! Your gynae or FS may have already considered this and checked you for it.. It's just not something I have ever heard many people mention (IRL or on BB) so I just thought maybe it might be worth me mentioning... I'm def not trying to be negative or upset anyone, or anything like that... I was just really glad that for me that the problem was identified and treated, firstly because it made AF more bearable and secondly because we didn't waste any embies - having transfers that may have had less success in implanting because of the Ando in my uterus...
I'm not a dr so I am sure there are many reasons for mid cycle bleeds (eg ovulation!) but if bleeding is pre ov (and I'm sure many things can cause this other than Ando) I just thought it may be something you may appreciate being aware of?
Happy Saturday ladies - I hope everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing weekend... And for those waiting on ov or just something to happen, fingers crossed that then lead up to Easter sees your dreams come true. Xx
