    Default Ovarian cyst

I'm six weeks pregnant and I went in on Tuesday for an ultrasound just to make sure everything was ok. Everything is fine with the baby but they found a cyst on one of my ovaries. They said with me being pregnant there wasn't much they could do except monitor it for now (and make sure it's checked again at my 12 week scan). The doctor said most of these cysts are benign and often they go away on their own.

I was just wondering if any one else had had one and what the outcome was? Did they know what caused it? <sigh> one more thing to worry about!

I had a Corpus Luteum Cyst appear on my 5.5 week scan. It had shrunk by my 12 week scan. This particular cyst "occurs after an egg has been released from a follicle. After this happens, the follicle becomes what is known as a corpus luteum. If a pregnancy doesn't occur, the corpus luteum usually breaks down and disappears. It may, however, fill with fluid or blood and stay on the ovary. Usually, this cyst is on only 1 side and produces no symptoms".

I too was shocked as I had never had a cyst, when I read my ultrasound report however the dr has never mentioned it to me so it musnt be much of a fuss in my case.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. You have more scans in pregnancy yet, and they will be able to compare it then. Goodluck Jac

Is it a CL cyst and it just looks like a black hole? If so, this is very normal and a good sign, it indicates the ovary you ovulated from to conceive your baby. It kind of takes the place of the placenta till around 12 weeks, helping sustain your pregnancy.

I have a cyst on my left ovary which was actually ruptured before I knew I was pregnant. This 'cyst' is actually more a tumor, they thought perhaps a brenner tumor (alhtough I doubt it as they are exceptionally rare in pregnancy) but hopefully an endometrioma, because it's solid and very round. This looks very different to a CL cyst on a scan. Even in my case, with the abnormal cyst/tumor, they still just are waiting till the pregnancy is over to check it and whilst it's only causing my mild discomfort it's not a concern at the moment..

Hi, I had a Dermoid Cyst that they found when I had my C/S with my twin boys. My OB could not take it off then but I had it taken off 3 months later. It had bone matter and skull and teeth growing in it (how gross).

I just had my dating ultrasound yesterday, and they also discovered a corpus luteum. She asked me when I was going back to the ob and I said in 4 weeks and I figure that seeing she didnt say to go back sooner, everything should be ok

I've had a couple of cysts and both times they have gone away by themselves. Don't fret about it, they are common enough and the fact that they are happy just to monitor it means there's really nothing to worry about!

PS Soooo glad all went well with seeing your bub's little heartbeat - big sigh of relief for me!

After I had Jovie I had a large cyst & they said to come back & make sure it decreased in size. I spoke with a Gyn about it and he said when AF visited next to make the appt for the scan.

    Hi Tara...

I noticed you have gone thru the turmoil of endometriosis.
I have a 3 yr old and we are trying for #2. Im currently going thru tests to check out my hormone levels as Im having pain on my right ovary again which is where the endo was. I'm fearing it is coming back and I won't be able to fall preggas because of it.
I had a lap in Dec so I thought i would fall preggas straight away but it ain't happening !
Actually the Dr made me do a preg test today (blood test) to make sure im not preggas as im having pain on my right side (ovary).. breasts are a wee bit tender and also had pain in my uterus. (I think the uterus pain is due to irratable bowel and constipation as your bowel can push against your uterus when constipated). Im just a bit confused and a bit worried. I've made an appointment with the naturopath 02 may as she is renowned for getting your body back upto scratch and for helping with fertility.
Do you mind sharing your story about the process of falling preggas with endo ?

    Thanks for listening

    Hi Twin Sister,

I have a dermoid tumour on my right overy and am now 36 wks pregnant. I found out at my 10wk scan of this. Mine is bigger than my fist but have had no symptoms of it even being there. Drs spoke of removing it by key hole sugery inbetween 14 and 28 wks but by 28 wks still had no syptoms. Drs have decided to leave it untill 6 wks after the birth to remove it. Unless I have a c section and they will take it then.

I have had numerous scans throughout the pregnancy to keep an eye on it. It has changed shape quite a few times.

Dr checked on wednesday that it wasnt in the way of the baby's head to prevent going into natural labour. But really it has caused no interference at all.

Hopefully when you go back they will tell you it has disolved away.
Cysts and Tumours on overies are apparently quite common so probably cause for very little concern.

    Best of luck with it.

Hello, last year I had an ectopic pg and when they discovered that on the left side they found a 6cm cyst on the right side! Both the u/s operator and my Doctor told me that as there was solid/hard particles inside the tumour it was extremely unlikely to go away and I was put on a waiting list for keyhole surgery. A couple of months later when I received my surgery date I went in for another u/s to see if it had grown and to get the exact location and it had disappeared! The u/s operator couldnt believe it and had 2 other specialists come in the room to look as well and they all confirmed it! So even the cysts they say won't go away on their own sometimes do!
