Although now I have the pelvic pain AND the sciatic crap....
Me too. Totally sucks don't it?? I nearly fell over gettingout of bed this morning because my back just gave way. Lucky one leg still worked ok, or I would have made a pancake of the Heffalump....I haven't had it so bad yet. Getting up and down always reeeaaaaaly hurts, but I have never not been able to support myself. I'm chanting 3 WEEKS TO GO...3 WEEKS TO GO
and god forbid if it's any more than that!

Kaz, sorry to hear your SPD hasn't gone. I'm hoping that's not the case for me too! I did get it mildly after I had DD though, not while I was pg with her...but I didn't know what it was then. Just figured I'd hurt myself during labour with her.

can someone tell me if this is the begining of SPD. I have pain almost right down my bikini line on both sides. I had SPD with DD but a) i cant remember how it started and b) im too scared to move incase it is SPD and i make it worse!
Is there anything i can do to stop it getting as bad as last time? on top of the sciatica and painful left hip and upper back pain....i just dont want to deal with SPD for another 10 weeks aswell!! OH the joys of pregnancy

Negrita. I wore the src preg shorts and found they helped alot. I had a belly belt that just made it worse so got rid of it. I now wear the src recovery shorts.

With lying in bed. I worked out i'd sleep on one side for 45-90 min, wake up, go to loo. Sleep on other side for same. Wake up, loo. Sleep on back for same. Repeat throughout the night. I had a bunch of pillows to help position myself.

I still find it difficult to roll over or under. Sometimes i have to shove one hip over with my hand so i'm not using the groin muscles to do it. I'm also using arnica cream on hips, inner thighs and bikini. Nice!

The whole thing sucks. Sometimes all you can do us ice, take a panadeine and count down another day.

everyone, haven't been in here before. Apparently I have SPD Was sore when pregnant but not too bad if I was careful so I didn't think it was bad enough to be SPD from what I've heard from others and how bad it can get. I was going to the chiro too which I found helped me.

But after the birth, OUCH! It is much worse now. After a very active 10hr labour I didn't expect I'd then have to get a wheelchair to get to the maternity ward. I could hardly walk my pubic bone was just so so sore. The physio came and did her routine check the next day and told me I have SPD and also muscle separation in my stomach (6cms) which is not helping the situation either. It's not as bad as just after the birth but still pretty sore all the time. Sore just to touch and sore to walk at the front and also my tailbone too.

Just wondering when I can expect it to get better?? I didn't expect this after I'd had her! Hoping it doesn't take too long to get better.

    TIA guys.

I first got SPD after the birth of my first child, and it came back during subsequent pregnancies. The post birth pain after my first lasted around 5 or 6 weeks, getting better little by little. I couldn't stand for any length of time for the first month. I wish I had gone to see a chiro for some proper support as I was healing though as I suspect my 3rd and 4th pregnancies would have been much easier if I had. Hope you feel lots better soon xx

Mine lasted for 18 months after my first birth so it doesn't always just 'go away on its own'. It certainly didn't for me first time around.

I would recommend a good supportive belt. Worked wonders.for me, even though the Physio said mine was pretty severe. Belt was a life saver. But I still had to finish work at 33weeks, coz some days it was just horrible. I could barely walk. I tried walking down the street once and could barely make it home the pain was so bad, I had to keep stopping. I saw a chiropractor who got me fitted for a correct belt and taught me how to fit it correctly. He also showed me a few tricks for when the pain was real bad.

Do you know what brand your belt is? I've been looking at the Serola one online...there's not a whole lot of info on them though.

I'm trying to decide whether I'm gonna go chiro or physio. I've seen about 8 physio's over the last few years for other issues and none of them seem to help and I do have a chiropractor who helps a bit but I'm a little weary with going to him whilst pregnant. Not sure why...I think it's because doctors generally don't like chiro's (particularly my doctor!) and I like to do things by the book when I'm pregnant - I put my trust in western medicine! Is there any reason why you picked chiro or did you try both?

I got referred to a physio once I had DD1, and then continued to see her - my hip had popped out and rotated so that made my pain worse, so it was probably best I saw a physio anyway.

Then I moved states and I went to a physio and he said he didn't believe SPD existed (I'm sure you can imagine what I thought of him) so I went and found a chiro who did believe it was a problem and she was great. I found women more sympathetic towards the problem than any male.

So no, I didn't have any specific reason for choosing them, it was just the way it went. I do think some care providers are better than others. Whereabouts are you located? maybe someone in here can refer a good person.

I saw a Physio at the hospital I went to and she referred me to a chiropractor to get my belt. But I didn't get any alignments or anything. My belt is from USA, its called serola, and its a sacroiliac belt.

Mrs NB - Wow, can't believe he didn't think it existed. I think some people just like to go against the grain for the point of it! I'm located in Perth.

WilliamsMummy - Interesting that you went to a physio who referred you to a chiro, it's great that they are getting more open minded with different treatments. I spoke with a physio supplier the other day and they said the Serola belt is the best on the market.

Isn't it crazy? When you're pregnant you start to appreciate the wonders of the human body and what it can do, however I think there is a serious design flaw there! Relaxin is great, but why can't it just kick in at the birth??!!

Good this thread is bumped, easier to find Just got back from the osteo, been diagnosed it's SPD. Suspected as much because I'm in a lot of pain, lower back, thighs, groin always painful, and now I'm starting to really struggle to lift my legs high enough to put shoes or pants on. By the end of the day I'm struggling big time to walk too. So it's regular osteo for me now, and a tubigrip for my belly too, because I have a bit of muscle separation again too. I don't know much about SPD so I need to read up!
