WHY aren't you allowed to TTC straight after a M/C?

I was only wondering this as I was getting signs that I'm ovulating and considered 'trying', but then remembered my Dr said to wait until after my first period after the M/C. I have only just stopped bleeding from the m/c and my scan last week showed no signs of 'debris' in my uterus.

So, is there a reason not to concieve? Hormones, infection or otherwise?? I'm not considering it now - i think it's too late, but am interested in finding out!

oh im not sure. I did ask the doctor I had seen when I m/c the twins and he said I could try straight away..which I really didnt want to....amazingly enough I never did get another period and had Mateauz the January afterwards. It was my toughest pg and he did almost die after birth....I often wonder if that has anything to do with conceiving him so quickly after our m/c

Most often for an early loss it is really for dating the pregnancy which is a moot point now with u/s. A lot of "older' docs will say 3 months. Really unless there is a medical condition or an incomplete miscarriage the reason usually is for dating purposes.

Basically you will not ovulate if you have any HCG floating around.

It is always important to follow your care providers advice - but ALWAYS question the why's and what if's. It isn't possible to answer you conclusively.

FWIW I conceived 2 pregnancies the very next cycle after an early loss - I had no period in between. However they were early losses (6 ish weeks) and were complete miscarriages.

Hi Missamy - I am sorry you have gone through so much lately. My DR told me that there is no medical reason not to try straight away but it is easier to track your pregnancy after one period because then your cycle is back to normal and you can work out how far you are along etc etc. I have read heaps of information that even says that you are more fertile in the first 3 months following an early miscarriage but I don't know if that is proven. Because my DR told me there is no medical reason, I am planning to TTC again asap.

hi missamy- so sorry for your loss.
From my experience, doc said wait for one normal period before trying again, as others have said I expect this is for their convenience with dates etc.
Anecdotally I know of lots of people who have conceived straight away, without waiting, and gone on to have healthy pregnancies and babies.

Hi with my later losses I was told 3 months to get my body back in into good shape (physically) it does drain you and its a good idea to get onto those vitamins straight away...with an earlier loss I was never really told not to try, I guess I waited a cycle just so I had an idea where I was and a couple of times my body told me I was'nt ready with irregular cycles... there are plenty of babies concieved straight after a MC.. I reckon if you feel up to it go for it.. your probablly right.
