Thanks so much ladies. He doesn't want to wear nappies and we do lots and lots of nappy free time at home (with both me taking him to the toilet and we not taking him but racing him to the loo when he suddenly looks like he's going to go, so I know he's not ready, but was hoping magically that maybe I was wrong!
Arcadia I know you are right about some kids being older. My DD was months and months after other kids the same age at our playgroup, but then was the first to be completely night trained shortly after she was day trained. Just when you think you can manage anymore, kids suddenly change!
Put him back in nappies, he is not ready. You watching him and racing him to toilet is just that! Boys take longer generally to get and want to do it.
DS1 was 3 years 7 months and had 2 wee accidents in total both as got side tracked on way to toilet by someone being at door. Poo's he wouldnt do in toilet for 5 days and would demand a nappy then finally one day happened with lots of encouragment. DS1 on his 4th birthday announced he was a big boy and doesn't need a nappy for bed and we have had 4 accidents on a year! Last to be TT off friends but first by far to be night trained. (night is a developmental shift and they need to be aware to wake up, no one can push night TT)
DS2 3 years 2 months's wee easy enough a few accidents but not much BUT poo he will not do in toilet, he even puts own nappy on to poo! He has been TT wee for 5 months!!!!
Give him nappy free time when you can at home but don't add stress to your life to watch hm grab and run! Hugs hang in there it will happen!
Both my older DD's were 3 or just over. Was not happening no matter how I tried before then. DS spent a lot of time naked. Then when he'd wee I noticed he like to wee on things so I made a game of it & got him to wee on a rock in the garden, or ants or something. Worked for him, lol. He was trained by about 2.5.
DD3 just clicked by herself. Before 2.5 she started, in the last 2 months or so the only accidents have been while strapped into the car on long trips. Still night nappies though.
If he doesn't want nappies, can you try MCN pull ups? They are undie style so look less like nappies. DS decided out of the blue at Xmas that he'd only poo on the toilet (2y8m), but it wasn't until March that he tried to wee on there...pretty much trained in two days. I just showed him his undies and told him occasionally that whenever he wanted to try weeing on the potty/toilet, he could. And when he got good at it, he could wear undies instead of nappies. No pressure though. He now wears undies at night too, but has had an occasional accident overnight....
My opinion...Leave the potty/toilet seat out, remind him that he can try whenever he wants, let him see you go, but otherwise, put him back in nappies til he's ready. No pressure. Ignore day care.
DS has just decided in the last 3 weeks that he wants to use the toilet. took an accident a day for a couple of days until he got it. then it took another week to work out to poo in the toilet. but during this whole time he has remained dry at night for 3 weeks with only 1 accident. if he wakes during the night he even ass to go. I say put him back in nappies until he is ready. he doesn't sound ready. so frustrating. I think toilet training is by far the hardest thing we can do as parents. I agree with the others though. maybe pull ups during the day if he wont go back in nappies
